I really love it and appreciate that you made this trip to Brandenburg, the Spreewald is really beautiful, whether it's winter or summer. Brandenburg has many nature parks with fascinating animal and plant species, whoever loves nature will find the right places in Brandenburg, Spree, Havel, Dahme and also the Oder are just four rivers that offer a lot along their course and there so many lake's and forest's, pure nature at all.
And Willa with her sweet hat was very attentive, I think it's really great what you do.
Greetings and a nice 4th Advent.

"Grünkohl" is such a comfort food for me as it's something my grandma and mum made on cold fall / winter sundays where you sit on the sofa afterwards and watch boring old Christmas movies with the family. And it's hillarious to me that this very rich and heavy food made their comeback in the US as a healthy "superfood".

Interesting to see the Spreewald in the christmas time. Most of all its known for the pickled cucumbers they make, the "Spreewald Gurken", which are quite good.
And your daughter is really cute, she seems to be a very smart little girl, from the way she talks at that young age.

its not a gondola íts called a "Kahn" ^^. I grew up a town futher in Lübben and since i repeared the old kayak of my grandpa i have a winter tradition that i stand up before sunlight prepare my kayak make hot tea and all the cloth i can find to be on the water before sun goes up. Thats the quietest the Spreewald will become for and there no time i feel more inner peace than that.
Something super regional to eat there is yeast pancakes or Hefeplinse. Also i believe that we make the best linseed oil for consumption. What we love to make in our family is dipping half of your breadroll into a plate of linseed oil and afterwards putting sugar over it. Yozu either love or hate it. There is nothing in between.

That dish with the two types of meat is Kale :) In Germany it is traditionally slow cooked with potatoes, Kassler meat and sausage. You can buy it ready made at the supermarket but you'll get better quality at your local butchers. And thank you for this video, I live only 2 hours from there, love history and never even knew about it! And I'm German...so you taught me something very valuable today!

@@OurStorytoTell Kale is more a Northern German dish - but you can be lucky that you find a supermarket in bavaria that stocks it. A southern dish I like is sour green beans - not so common to find in the South either in our days but as with kale - you can be lucky to find it in a bavarian supermarket in autumn/winter. When I see it I usually buy some bags of it. Like with Sauerkraut - in the past you did not have refrigerators and some vegetables you conservated to eat it during the winter.

so nice and so funny to hear the noisy Berliner voices in the background on the boat..... no sense for the silence and the moment.. Großstädter. ;-) I did this tour with friends a few years ago but in spring and in the evening into the night... it was beautiful... and i got myself several glasses with different flavors of pickled cucumbers... specialty from Spreewalnd but of course if your were about to fly over to Utah i didn't make sense to buy some...Spreewald/Lausitz is because of the nature and the sorbian culture a very unique area to explore... the christmas market in Lübbenau really looks very interesting... got to do this next year... Görlitz and Bautzen are two cities not to be missed in that area as well..

They have special barges to transport heavy stuff because a huge amount (if not the majority) of houses are not reachable via a street. AFAIK, you can travel to the Baltic Sea using this channels, via the Spree river to Berlin and from there crossing the "Mecklenburger Seenplatte" (where you can rent house boats too).

Grünkohl is very special. Not everyone likes it. Most don't like it at first, but after a while may develop a craving for it. In this regard it is similar to white asparagus.
Grünkohl needs a freezing night before it can be harvested. It's more eaten in winter time, I guess. But it is also a long-life product.

some houses in the spreewald are only reachable by a boat.. even the garbage is taken away by a boat. they even have their own language called sorbian. Sadly nowadays its only spoken by the older people and the language is slowly dying :(
Spreewald is always worth a visit.

    What happened to your Ukrainians?

Great question! We are in touch with them. They are waiting for one last visa to make it Canada! In the meantime, they’ve chosen to go back to Ukraine to be with family until it comes. Praying so hard they can receive it soon! 🙏

I Would like to suggest a Trip to Marienburg Castle, the "Headquarter" of the Welfen nobility Line. They Had the Kings of Hannover and ruled for nearly sixhundred years also in England. An additional visit in the Great Gardens of Hannover-Herrenhausen will probably boost your delight
