I think the issue with Xanderhal imo (I have only seen like 3 of his debates) is that he tries to have that destiny/vaush candence and style of speaking but it just doesn’t come off well cuz he’s TRYING to be like them and not just BEING himself
The issue is he is dumb. He didn’t even give her the respect to assume she knew what ‘death of the author’ is, something you learn in high school English class, because he thought knowing what that was is smart. Then he cites John Oliver and gets his own study wrong.

I was SO EXCITED to see another debate between Destiny and Lauren. When I saw the thumbnail I was actually a little shocked at the thought of her talking to him again after how bad it went last time.
One thing I think Destiny missed, Xanderhal early in the conversation said that because he was a "consequentialist" he didn't mind people supporting a "good" cause even if they didn't understand it. Later Lauren got him to say that conservatives calling out mainstream media was a problem because they do it for the wrong reasons. I think that demonstrated really succinctly the problem with throwing around philosophy terms without really having the structural side of it down.
I’m not sure if this really checks out. Assuming he is a consequentialist, people aren’t required to adhere to their philosophical framework 100%. He’s still a human and can make that mistake without invalidating his belief. But I think even conservatives calling out mainstream media could be argued to ultimately be a negative from the consequentialist point of view. Even if they’re doing it for the right reasons, if their criticism lead to an outcome where conservatives are able to more free spread disinformation due to a lack of faith in mainstream media it seems like being against that would resolve nicely with consequentialist thought.
No I think you missed the point, Xanderhal and Lauren both agreed that the mainstream media was bad....the disconnect is where xanderhal said it was a problem from the conservatives because they are doing it for the WRONG reasons. People are fallible and even if he is truly a consequentialist I don’t think he’s required to adhere to that constantly. If he’s consistently not adhering to it then it’s worth pushing back on that title, which Lauren should have done, but I think too much value is placed on him saying it’s for the “wrong reasons.” Maybe I’m being too generous but I think if he explored it more he’d realize his issue isn’t with their reasons but because the outcomes their reasons support are worse, which is consistent for a consequentialist.

Lauren had a win before the debate started. As soon as she looked like she is a tiny tiny bit cornered she could just say "the book is not about that". Which is true the book doesnt seem to be about any interesting topics. The discussion was only going to be on the topics Lauren felt comfortable with and there is very little xan could do to avoid that.
The "N is for nihilism" page is just a complete misunderstanding of the ideology in order to say it's immoral. It says that because they don't believe in a creator and they don't think anything matters on a cosmic level, they are unhappy. Nihilists are depicted as a bunch of people hiding behind skulls. Why is THAT in a kid's book?

I think Xanderhal would have done better if he had just stuck to talking about the book and tried to kind of take jabs at Lauren Southern by mentioning how left leaning it sounded. Not that being left leaning is an insult, but you could probably damage her a little with her crowd and also get her to think a little. For example, the part in her book where she mentions how it is okay for males to be feminine and females to be masculine. That is more of a left-wing idea that directly goes against the more traditional gender roles that her side, the right wing, usually talk about. Remember when people like Ben Shapiro and Candice Owens were making a big deal about an image of a man wearing a dress?

What's even more interesting is that the various iterations of the Spicy group spawned various Centrist pages and groups on FB as well. Chances are that any group or page with "Centrist Chads" in the name has links to Spicy. This is particularly evident in "Centrist Chads: The Last Stand", which has a noticeable level of Islamic and Arab influence in the group's culture.

It's compilation videos like these that remind me why, as a general policy ; I never debate. Debates are not about truth anymore ; they're just about swaying an audience to a particular ideological bend. That's not the kinda atmosphere that's needed to have a sincere and honest discussion.

This is the first Xander debate I've ever listened to, and he makes me unreasonably angry. He sounds like a LARPer that heard a bunch of Vaush and Destiny debates and just throws around points, retorts, and even mannerisms like a kid chucking toys at his opponent. The second Lauren said "you're just using the book as an excuse to debate me because otherwise you agree with the book" it was so obvious she had his number, and the rest was just her punching him around for being an overeager baby. People are fallible and even if he is truly a consequentialist I don’t think he’s required to adhere to that constantly. If he’s consistently not adhering to it then it’s worth pushing back on that title, which Lauren should have done, but I think too much value is placed on him saying it’s for the “wrong reasons.” Maybe I’m being too generous but I think if he explored it more he’d realize his issue isn’t with their reasons but because the outcomes their reasons support are worse, which is consistent for a consequentialist.
What’s the point in throwing around big philosophy words if he isn’t even gonna think about it thoroughly and apply it consistently. Him saying he’s a consequentialist literally means nothing maybe he should think of the CONSEQUENCE of his words before throwing them around....we are right to call him out on this.

Which is true the book doesnt seem to be about any interesting topics. The discussion was only going to be on the topics Lauren felt comfortable with and there is very little xan could do to avoid that.

I think Xanderhal would have done better if he had just stuck to talking about the book and tried to kind of take jabs at Lauren Southern by mentioning how left leaning it sounded. Not that being left leaning is an insult, but you could probably damage her a little with her crowd and also get her to think a little. For example, the part in her book where she mentions how it is okay for males to be feminine and females to be masculine. That is more of a left-wing idea that directly goes against the more traditional gender roles that her side, the right wing, usually talk about. Remember when people like Ben Shapiro and Candice Owens were making a big deal about an image of a man wearing a dress?
The problem seems like nothing in the book is really that disagreeable. Its just that conservatives and left people will interpret some moments differently

It's compilation videos like these that remind me why, as a general policy ; I never debate. Debates are not about truth anymore ; they're just about swaying an audience to a particular ideological bend. That's not the kinda atmosphere that's needed to have a sincere and honest discussion.

This is the first Xander debate I've ever listened to, and he makes me unreasonably angry.
