  • As has been requested, slightly earlier than anticipated, because I just felt like it, I am presenting the non-floodgate version of Vaylantz. And since we still aim to go first, we'll try to make big negate boards with often Apollousa, Baronne de Fleur or Borreload. And if we get the opportunity to summon Arktos XII (released in Rage of Chaos), we will obviously do so. So the combos shown in this video will do all that.
    Do keep in mind, these are basic combos. When you have more cards in hand, you have, as any pendulum deck, so many ways to play. That is the fun thing about pendulum (even though the mechanic is a disgrace).
    I still think that both the floodgate variant and a more tailored going second variant are better for this deck in the current meta, but are they just as fun? That is up to you to decide.
    Small note regarding the last combo, it cannot be performed when you only have a mover and the field spell.You will need an additional extender (and performing a severely different line) to get even close to it. This deck has so many ways going to Rome, that it was hard to pinpoint every option, so I did cut the corner a little here.
    Btw, the Floodgate variant video - • ONLY BIG-BRAIN COMBOS!...
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disclaimer for these Basics combo guides:
    1) We pretend that only have the cards in the starters or searchers header in our hand and no other cards.
    2) We will ignore the opponents' hand, unless we need them to do something to show parts of our combo.
    3) The searchers specified will be able to kick-start the combo by fetching starters. It is possible we use search cards later in the combo that aren't specified in the searchers at the start.
    4) The presented decklist may vary from the used list in the combo tutorial, as for the tutorial we want to increase the odds of pulling the combo off.
    5) The presented decklists are taking the meta into account but are often different in hindsight. Also, certain cards (especially hand traps) can be easily switched out based on preference or meta relevancy.
    The YuGiOh! Basics Series is a series of videos where we elaborately walk through different combo lines and combo strategies for different decks so you can learn how to win. Aiming to inform beginners of the deck, or just beginners to YuGiOh! in general and we perform these combos in Konami's YuGiOh! Master Duel, even though most combos work fine in the OCG/TCG too. We're hoping that these guides will give you the confidence of playing with a tier 0 deck, even though it is ranked slightly (or vastly) below that and not, as Seto Kaiba had put it, be a third rate duelist with a forth rate deck. Be as Yugi Moto, play, learn and believe in the heart of the cards!

    This deck works great with the SHS engine setting up the high scale (and a free monster). If you want to see that engine in action, just let me know in the comments!

      Thanks for your kind words!
      I had two Mamonaka, but I dismantled them since no one plays them. I can see why, since it is quite resource intensive. With no Mamonaka, you only play 1 Hojo at maximum, but I choose to run something else, as I see that as more useful. But you can run both, Mamonaka is not a bad card when summoned.

      @@cognitivegrub0 yeh, 3 fusion mats is quite a lot, but it’s possible to leave Arktos, Duke and Hojo on the field, which lets you steal their monsters and use them as a Mamonaka Mat. It’s not too consistent, but it’s fun!

      @@GermangoYGO I totally agree, it certainly is fun as I performed a similar like combo in the event that we had with the Vaylantz loaner. And I maybe would have shown it if I still had some Mamonaka's lying around, but alas.

    Prefer using any of the scale 9 spirits for the beyond the pendulum search for turns past 2 plus they give you space for your vaylantz

    Was play testing and you can accomplish a lot more with just shinonome and either field spell/soloacyivation. Namely 3 mat apollo, Arctos V, and either the 2 lv8s for a steal and mamonaka on opponent's turn, or mamonaka and saion for double disruption alongside arctos.

    Not playing floodgate is much more fun. I have been playing vaylantz in OCG day 1. And I have never played Fossil Dyna in my deck. I don't want my "boss monster" in my deck having nothing to do with the archetype. It feels like people are playing a Fossil Dyna deck with vaylantz as engine, instead of playing a vaylantz deck.

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  Рік тому

      Fair enough. But for a 'pure' list, I do feel something is missing. An in-arcehtype link-1 that allows for easier movement or something like that. Perhaps in the future we'll get some additional suport as the archetype is fun.

    • @jeffchu7456
      @jeffchu7456 Рік тому

      Totally agree. For future support, I would really like another way to summon Mamonaka. Maybe like a fusion spell that let us use face up Vaylantz monster in the extra deck as fusion materials, by returning them to the deck? I don't know.@@cognitivegrub0

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  10 місяців тому

      I'll look into it. Sadly, aiming guides for the tcg means I'm always lagging behind with the Master Duel client. I believe that Exceed the Pendulum is a fairly good card for Vaylantz, but that takes about 6 months for it to be released in the MD.

  • @sirjakehero
    @sirjakehero Рік тому +1

    When I try to use vaylantz I always feel like i'm missing something, I think that this deck could be played in a really pure way, event without beyond and electrumite, they are just extenders. For example Summoning grand duke, destroying it and than using him for the pendulum summon..
    Or using the trigger effects of baron and nazuki..
    Also i dont understand why mamonaka is the ultra rare card in tcg and hojo the super rare, but not really used..
    Anyway, both two are really good videos, really appreciate!

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  Рік тому +2

      I am not sure about the TCG, but perhaps Konami decided to take a different route in its second wave of support, moving away from hard fusions. And yes, you could play it 'pure', but Electrumite and Beyond are such great extenders (fetching you 2 missing cards), it would almost be a criminal offense not to use it.
      But I also feel like there is missing something, and those are in my opinion, a link extender and a nice finisher monster. Perhaps in the future...

      I think Mamonaka is a great boss monster. Playing Mamonaka and Hojo is much more fun than playing Fossil Dyna.

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  Рік тому

      @@jeffchu7456 It is great, and its effect is fun, but a tad bit too resource intensive (requiring 3 monsters). How do you make it work? Perhaps I've overlooked something.

    • @jeffchu7456
      @jeffchu7456 Рік тому +1

      In my opinion, there are few problems of Mamonaka as a boss monster.
      1) Needing heavy resource investment (3 vaylantz monster)
      2) The only way to bring him out within the archetype is by using the effect of Hojo
      3) As a boss monster requiring so many resources, he has no built-in protection
      I build my deck with these concerns in mind, and I tried my best to make it viable.
      1) Utilize cards that let me go +1 or even +2
      Shinonome lets me go +2, Marquess is a potential +1. And I use small world in my build. It's a -1, but by grabbing Shinonome, it evens out and goes +1
      Also, by the nature of Vaylantz monster, we can easily go into Electrumite (sorry TCG players) and Beyond the Pendulum before pendulum summoning. That lets me go +2/3. And Exceed the Pendulum is another +1.
      2) I play 2 pendulum fusion (with Performapal Odd-Eyes Synchron). It provides me another way to bring out Mamonaka. And it opens up synchro play and the possibility of summoning Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon.
      3) I also plays the Majesty Pegasus / Secret Village package (I am a kind of a hypocrite here, I said I hated floodgates). And with Electrumite I can easily pendulum summon Pegasus then contact fusion into Dinoster Power, the Mighty Dracoslayer, which provides protection for all my pendulum monsters.
      With my build and my playing style, I often have 4-5 vaylantz bodies on the board with a link 2 after pendulum summoning. Then depends on the situation, I make further link plays / bring out Mamonaka.
      And I really appreciate the release of Arktos XII. It allows me to leave the Vaylantz monster as my end-board. Like Saion and Dominator Duke
      It's not a competitive build and I only play casually. But I really enjoy playing Vaylantz!

    For those wondering : the reason why you want to pop your own Field Spell is because Konig Wissen can destroy your own board if your opp knows how it works. As for why you better search Konig Wissen, it's because when you pop, your oppo keeps a card on their field. So they cannot Imperm, Evenly Matched, or Lightning Storm, which are some of the best go 2nd cards in the game...sorry, what's a Kaiju ?

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  Рік тому

      In my part 1 video I show what could happen if you leave Konig Wissen up (it can allow the opponent to move a monster card to your backrow, possibly popping your backrow card). Everything else has been greatly explained above, so thanks for that!
      And a Kaiju is like Lava Golem (tributing your opponent's monsters), but for a single monster. Similar as Santa Claws. Or Sphere Mode, which will tribute 3 monsters.

    Do you know what is the generic extra deck for vaylantz to play? i play the Asia English version and we don't have that much card for now, specialy the links

    • @cognitivegrub0
      @cognitivegrub0  9 місяців тому +1

      I am not familiar with that format, but this deck can easily access a Rank 4 engine (which there are plenty good cards for), and generic links (whichever are available) are also a great choice.
      Furthermore, you may run a different engine alongside the Vaylantz. I had decent success with the Aleister engine.
      Hope this helps, as said, not familiair with the format, so I think there might be better sources here.
