  • This was a trip we had planned to do in 2020 with the Tokyo Olympics but due to the pandemic, here we were a few years later. So I had a Jetstar Airlines credit and just received an email telling me that it would expire at the end of the year, so it was a must to use it. And luckily the Jetstar flights were up and running again between Honolulu and Australia. I booked a flight between Honolulu and Sydney. From Sydney I was looking for the easiest and affordable way to get to Thailand. It turned out that Sydney to Bangkok was a good route and saw options with Scoot Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Scoot being the budget carrier was the most affordable way to go with a stop at Changi Airport in Singapore. Unfortunately, I tried to book many times on the internet for the Scoot flight but the website had issues and after 4 times trying, I looked at Singapore Airlines, as it was the next option but more expensive of course. It was a great choice as when the day came, Singapore Airlines and crew provided the most delightful experience in the sky. The food was delicious and the on board entertainment kept us passengers occupied throughout the flight. I had dreamt about traveling one of the world’s top rated airline and was stoked that the dream became a reality.
Upon arrival, used my Chase Ritz Carlton Credit Card’s anniversary free night and booked a night at the St. Regis Bangkok, one of my favorite places to stay in Bangkok. St. Regis Bangkok is a very classy hotel The next day my wife and I embarked on a flight with Bangkok Airways, Asia’s Boutique Airlines. This was my first time flying with Bangkok Airways and there was a lot of value to the experience. The flight felt similar to our flights to Khon Kaen, quick. The cabin crew was very helpful and efficient to provide a meal plus tea and coffee on such a short flight. My wife and I were impressed as the service was spot on.
Our previous 3 stays with Anantara Resorts were so delightful that we decided to try another, this time in Cambodia. After we went through immigration in Siem Reap, we found our driver who warmly greeted us and gave us a nice tutorial on how to say hello and thank you in the local language. Anantara Angkor Wat was centrally located and just a short walk away from the marathon packet pickup at a neighboring resort. The resort like the other Anantara Resorts was nicely landscaped with fish ponds and centrally located swimming pool. The unique Khmer designed suites gave us a better glimpse of the local culture. The staff was very helpful and got to ride a Tuk-Tuk that took us to a popular Sokkhak River Lounge specializing in Khmer Cuisine.
