I think you missed a detail. The reason Agatha becomes a ghost is because she made the deal with Rio if Billy volunteers to go with her, Rio won’t “show up” when Agatha dies. Billy volunteered to go with Rio and Agatha died so Rio honored the deal by not showing up. Rio hates ghosts because she isn’t able to take their soul.
18:21 wondering if Agatha "rising" after the Kiss of Death is her symbolism of redemption by sacrificing herself to Rio instead of Billy, before dying/decomposing
Just a note, the change in the song from "windy road" to "witches road" goes to the origins of the word Witch. The Germanic root wic means "to bend" or to "wind", becoming a term for those who bend or wind or bind nature like you would roots or weaving wicker. The word evolved to Witch. The lovely image of a child's view of bending nature like a windy road is so pretty and over time, with maturity and wisdom and experience, it becomes this harder word, incorporating other meanings and knowledge. It's just so apt.
Knowing that Nicky was supposed to die in childbirth and Jen was a midwife; it gives new light to the scene where Agatha reassures Jen of her abilities during the first trial. We now know how deeply she meant it when she told her "I left you alone because your work was important!"
Agatha is a ghost due to the deal that she made with Rio. It was spelled out that Death would either take Billy OR Agatha, (not both), and if Agatha got Billy to surrender willingly to Death, that Death had to leave Agatha alone...forever. Billy ~did~ willingly surrender however Agatha sacrificed herself before Death could take him, so per the terms of the deal, Death has to leave Billy alone and Death can't take Agatha's soul back to her domain. Thus Agatha is a ghost.
Yeah Agatha played that well because even when she wanted Billy to believe she was going to surrender him she knew was going to let rio take her life the whole time.
@kyoto3031 I think she changed her mind when Death called her out. She had to prove to Rio that she didn't just let her take Nicky to save herself. But I'm wondering what exactly the "calculated risk" entails. She's clearly not most sincerely dead, being a ghost, but how long will Death let her get away with it?
Another fact about Dandelions is that they do not need to be pollinated by another flower in order to produce seed. Clearly a reflection of her son’s immaculate conception - an absence of father.
@thomashendricks9774 Rio/Death & Agatha could be the parent's of Nicholas. Rio being Death means her child(ren) only live so long as looking at the Greeko Roman history the demigods born to Gods/Goddesses of the under world only live to around 12 when they would be recognized as full Adults at 15. With Rio being 6 to 8 tears of death above the Greeko Roman God's it stands to reason her son living longer could have caused a universal collapsing event.
This show was really beautiful in so many ways. It was about the love of a mother, unconditional and unending. And there were so many poignant lines that broke my heart. "I spoke no spell, I said no incantation. You-- you, I made, from scratch." "No, Billy. Sometimes, boys die." It's a parallel to Wanda. Both she and Agatha made their boys, "from scratch," and both would do anything, terrible things, for their boys. Only to find themselves unable to face their own children for the things they had done to save them. One of the best Marvel series I've seen.
Did anyone notice the bell that Nicholas steals from the witch is the same one that Agatha uses when their singing the Ballad of the witch road in episode two
Agatha sprayed lavender on Billy and Tommy when they were babies crying in the crib. She is one of the most complicated characters in the MCU so far and now one of my favorites!
Now it makes more sense why she was fascinated with Wanda’s power because she created life out of nowhere and why she killed their dog to see if you can bring to the dead to life so if she takes her powers she can bring back her son
She wasn’t in this episode much, but Sasheer Zamata really impressed me in this show. You forget how good actors are when they come from SNL, but she was so freaking great.
Also when Agatha says "let's go find tommy" Is a great show of character development. Cause if you remember, when she was talking to Billy after climbing through the mud; she said Tommy's name wrong, and he had to correct her.
After dealing with ‘dude bro’ haters in some video essay’s comment section who say that no one watched this show and that it got horrible reviews, which just isn’t true, these comments are a breath of fresh air. I absolutely love that this show touched so many people. Nothing can change facts✨
She technically got Billy to give himself up, meaning Death has to hold up her end of the bargain and leave hear alone, but she died before Rio could collect him. So Death has to accept her sacrifice, but also leaver her alone, hence, ghost.
The other thing is that by taking Rio's magic she basically gained the power of death allowing not only herself to become a ghost but also likely the power to assure Billy and Tommy's souls stay put.
This show is the reason why this quote exists: "Don't judge a book by it's cover" A lot of people mocked this show even before it was released, but look at how this was a masterpiece. We need more quality shows MARVEL (Disney)!
It amazes me that people still haven't learned the lesson that WandaVision taught them. Let the story play out before you judge. When I first watched WandaVision I really wanted it to be good. And I was on tenterhooks with each episode as I slowly watched them unveil what the show was doing. I had faith that something great was going to come of it. And it did. Others just mocked from the start rather than give credit for the fact that everything was there for a purpose. Those who mocked Agatha All Along before it was released (and that includes Ryan to a small degree) should have had faith that the story would be as layered and connected as WandaVision. That the clues were all there and would make sense in the end. But, it's also turned out to be potentially hugely important. It could give the whole MCU a shake up. I can only wish that somewhere in the MCU this will lead to Thanos and Deadpool fighting over Death's affections as they do in the comics. But there's so much more deep potential for what Agatha will bring to the multiverse.
I think you may have missed something, that ties into both Agatha's "calculated risk" remark and the reason she came back as a ghost. It is the deal she made with Rio, which included the clause "and when I do die, I don't want to see your face". That means Rio never came to collect her, so she could easily not pass through the door and stick around.
that was only if she met HER side of the deal - she did not ... which is why Rio was right outside the door when she came out and why she could now kill her - if she didn't deliver Billy she was the one collected
Marvel has been getting hate for their recent stuff and I was so afraid people would hate this show but I loved it! And it was incredibly well written. So glad it’s done well
I am a die hard marvel fan and I too hated the time and money I wasted watching the past few releases so much so that this is the first MCU series I didn’t follow week by week, I haven’t even watched it at all. I was waiting for the reviews before I delve into it. The fact that you love something means you should say its shlt when it’s shlt if not you’re being intentionally delusional
So much of the hate is because it's cool to hate on the biggest brand. While the quality of the Marvel shows and movies has varied there are people determined to hate projects as soon as Disney announces the title and year of release.
I didn't catch the connection that the things that her powers couldn't do for Nicholas (heal, protect, divine what will happen) were the powers that members of her "new" coven had
11:02 It's also worth noting that Dandelions are considered weeds, which makes it symbolic of how witches are shunned by society and how Agatha was shunned by witches.
She never thought he was Nicky. She was protective of him because she knew that if Billy died, she would be stuck in his illusion of the witches road forever, just as she was stuck under Wanda’s spell for 3 years.
Just realized that “that boy isn’t yours “ line has so many meanings now… 1. Billy is not your son Nicky 2. Billy is not yours to keep 3. Billy is mine 4. Nicky is mine
You know what's interesting we can look at the loss of Nicholas Scratch as a custody dispute between Agatha and Rio. Rio finally got to have custody rights after sometime
If he can even see her. So far, we have seen only witches being able to see ghosts. (Which means next to nothing, as only witches were around when ghosts appeared in AAA...)
@blairhoughton7918 if The reactivated Body registered another vision & knows it no longer exist it may within his processor log it as a hollowgram that triggered a hard river back up to innitiate.
Definitely by far one MARVEL best. Story, acting, pacing, ORIGINAL SONG, plot twist, and they stuck the landing, just superb. I’ll see you all at the end✌🏿
I know this was filmed and released before showrunner Jac Schaeffer's post finale interviews with media, some points are interesting still! Yeah I would think that Nicholas did see and interact with Rio/Death a bunch of times and is familiar with her, even though Agatha would definitely hate it and told him to not trust her and not talk to her, I think Nicholas sees Rio/Death as the nice lady in green who hangs out and maybe teaches him a few things and he does feel safe around her. it looks like he has been briefed by Rio/Death that when she comes round to see him again, they will go to some sort of 'wonderful place'. He doesn't resist or struggle or complain, he understands where he is going and why he has to say goodbye to his mum. And I think in Rio/Death's eyes, she does treat him like her child as well, which is why she also calls him 'Nicky' when talking to Agatha. The question of who is Nicholas's Dad was developed but was not included in the final show due to concise storytelling reasons and felt better left ambiguous. Agatha sadly came into the world with a horrible traumatic early life, no one empathized or tried to understand her absorption powers, her own Mom hated her so much and wanted her dead, Agatha thus figured that if she wanted something, she will just do everything herself and not trust anyone to help or want to learn from others/ interact because of how she was treated with no love, misunderstood, and went into full survival mode. Because her 'power set' works as a self-defense mechanism: people blast her, she absorbs the hits and pulls power/ life force into herself, and she grew to love that high and became a magic junkie. Jac Schaeffer also mentions that Agatha's powerset is all about destruction, she cannot use magic to create, heal, divine and protect, and so to Agatha, creating and crafting thigs became of great value to her. That's why she is so proud and elated that she was able to have a child 'from scratch'. I don't think Agatha was killing to stave Death, I think she was always killing because of the power addiction and high, even before having her child, she already elongated her life from the Salem trials and many years after. And then after she had Nicholas, she went right back to killing witches even when he was a baby. The difference was that Nicholas was the voice of reason and innocence, and even though he grew up knowing his Mom was a serial witch killer, he was uncomfortable with it and he didn't like the fact they were conning, manipulating others and killing. Agatha knew it made her son very uncomfortable and she herself was ashamed of her behavior, but the addiction was too great to pass up. She's a sociopath and she knows what she is doing is wrong and does feel bad about it, but she forces herself to block it out, and also created this theatrical villain persona as a kind of self defense mechanism to mask her pain. And after Nicholas's death, because there is no voice of reason and absolutely consumed by grief, Jac Schaeffer mentions that Agatha leans in even harder to the power addiction and killing to drown her pain. Which explains why even after Agatha's death as a ghost, she still feels she can't face her son in the afterlife because she's so full of shame and guilt. She feels happier just having that distance then seeing her son in person because she's so fearful of his response. RE Agatha and Rio/Death's relationship, the main issue was the miscommunication in expectations. Like they probably 'met over corpses', as what Jen had joked, Jac Schaeffer said the funny thing they did plan is that Agatha is actually the controller of the relationship, if you think about it, Rio/Death is Agatha's simp. She simps and yearns and has bent backwards a lot for Agatha because she genuinely was smitten with her! Like this is a cosmic entity and Death incarnate we're talking about! But for Rio/Death, her duty always comes first and honestly Death has bosses to report to, she doesn't get a say on timing and which individual dies, if she has to collect you, she has to collect you. She knows Agatha is an anomality who has been extending her life by killing other witches, and that's against the rules, but on the other hand, Agatha also had a fascination with Rio/Death and they genuinely did fall in love and have a relationship. But at the back of Agatha's mind, Death has to collect her. Agatha thought that she gets a pass for being her lover, but Rio/Death can't agree on that because that's her duty. I think Rio/Death also underestimates how much Nicholas meant to Agatha and it really really hurt her when Nicholas had to die, Agatha wasn't kidding when she said 'I will hate you forever'. And so Rio/Death will constantly hunt and torment Agatha over centuries to remind her that she has to die. It's like you don't want to see your ex but she keeps coming back to stalk you to remind you of all this mess of pain, love, lust, memories and etc. From Rio/Death's perspective, she's just simping and yearning and hoping that Agatha will stop hating her, also possessive and frustrated why won't Agatha love her back? From Agatha's perspective, Rio/Death has caused her so much genuine pain and their relationship is irreconcilable. RE the kiss of death, there was this hilarious anecdote from executive producer Mary Livanos that Aubrey and Kathryn did do multiple kiss takes and they REALLY went at it that Mary had to lower the volume of her headphones because of all the snogging sounds!! Like the ferocity and feral nature of the kiss could be read as Agatha's final goodbye to Rio/Death. Where instead of Agatha usually absorbing other's blasts to absorb power and blast out, this is her choosing to absorb Rio/Death's power to end her mortal life. Jac Schaeffer interprets it as because their relationship had become toxic, that toxic energy is what killed Agatha. She says they most probably made out many times before then, this isn't their first and final kiss. RE Agatha's relationship with Billy is quite special. I mean she did initially meet him as a small kid in the WandaVision hex, and overtime as they worked together in Billy's visualized Road, through all the trials, I think he's the only person who empathizes with her and is genuinely selfless, kind and understanding. I mean yes he's young and volatile and incredibly talented, there's this innocence and passion that she draws parallel to Nicholas who humanizes her. He can see through her theatrical villain persona and knows there is this deep hurt and vulnerability. And yeah, they do both work very well together if they're on the same page. They can complement each other, she knocks some sense of reality into him because he is an idealist and tends to have a bit of rose colored glasses on, and he will remind her to have a heart and be empathic, because empathy is not her strong suit. Their powers also complement: he can create anything he dreams up, she's very good at absorbing and destroying things, so it works out!
The power they gave Agatha to drain power/life reminds me of Selene, an ancient mutant and witch from the comics. Makes me wonder if they took some inspiration from her and if Agatha might be a mutant especially since she retained her drain ability despite not having her magic.
GO DISNEY GO!! Everything they're doing with Marvel in the MCU is AWESOME. Agatha All Along is a total vibe, and Billy Maximoff is hands down the best character -he's got so much potential! The hype is real for Avengers Secret Wars, and I just know Spider-Man is going to play a huge role. Plus, seeing Robert Downey Jr. as Doomsday in Avengers is going to be insane! And don't even get me started on Loki, WandaVision, and finally getting Deadpool & Wolverine together this year! Keep it coming, Disney. :)
When Agatha is able to push the cameo out of Billy's hand it's very reminiscent of another movie, Ghost where Patrick Swayzes Sam is able to move objects with his strong emotions.
@ I doubt it..She was mad that Agatha lied about giving her Billy. And Agatha kisses her and obsorbed her powers like how she stole powers and I would say that made her a ghost along with maybe her really not wanting to see Nicky enough that she willed herself into a ghost
She was clearly referring to Nick when she said "I can't face him" that's why she grabbed the broach because that was the last thing left with his remnants
I think when she says that the truth is too awful, it means that the truth is that she couldn’t do anything to save him. And that’s why when she got the chance to actually save a young person who she had grown attached, and Billy asks if this is how Nicky died, she took that leap and sacrificed her life, redeeming in some way her painfrom her inability to do anything for Nicky. All the years she got with Nicky her mantra was to kill to survive, but she wasn’t killing just anyone. She was specifically targeting witches. As you mention she did t have a coven (and because of her past trauma, didn’t trust to have one) so her only choice was to become more powerful, enough to fight death herself. But I think that’s she also became trapped by that lifestyle and became her addiction and reason to be, keep becoming powerful and stay away from death.
When Agatha says that Billy has the same tell as his mother, she's referring to the pentagonal shape of the door to the road. Wanda's tell was the hexagonal motifs throughout wandavision. This also means the map of the hex in the credits is Billy's hex, because it is a pentagon and not a hexagon, with each of the trials representing the five corners.
This is MY show. Made FOR ME SPECIFICALLY. And I enjoyed every single second of it and am so sad that it's over. But excited to finally have my lil bro in the MCU.
As Midwife, she's familiar with "Getting Your Pink Back", the term some use to refer to a Woman reclaiming her Body after giving birth. She falls into a Birthing Posture as the Power floods back into her.
The interesting thing that gets missed is that when Rio appears, Nicky just goes off with her. He recognized her because she was his mother's partner. it was a sort of custody dispute.
Alice wasn't on the road to end her familial curse. She was there looking for her mom. Otherwise she would have disappeared at the end of the 70s episode.
she was still on the road to protect her coven after she lifted the curse that was her "want" from the road, Alice already knew her mother died on road tour
Agatha is a wonderful example of a what a series can be like when you have a passion for it, when compared to numerous others Marvel has put out where they seemingly have phoned it in. We need more Wanda/Agatha-level series!!!
The opening theme music in episode one has the lyrics winding road instead of witches road. How fitting considering she’s trying to put her mind back together as a detective story. She has gotten far enough to reminder she had Nicky and he was dead, so the lyrics are his version.
I also didn't expect much from this show. It's so damn good. I also didn't expect much from Andor, which is amazing. So maybe we fans should be open to being surprised.
Houdini was also a reference I think to the trials too, he was know for making great life endangering escapes. Also Jen came out of Westview the way Rio came into the road
I considered this when talking to my friend, the knives hanging is a reference to Damocles, however I have so many images of the kinds of swordplay Houndini would get involved with I think it fits well
Te accipimus in circulum means "we accept you into the circle." Vale ad lucem, relinque terram, noli esse phantasma means "farewell to the light, relinquish the earth, do not become a ghost."
When Billy manifests the door, it's not a Hex. It's five-sided, pentagon. It's missing a side. Like Billy, no? That's why Agatha says, "You're so much like your mother." Not, "You're JUST like your mother." Subtle difference, I know. Still important, IMHO. Wanda had 1)ability 2)History 3)family 4)love 5)home 6)future...a Hex. Billy needs more.
I think the Billie Eilish poster also speaks to simply the title of the album. ‘When we all fall asleep, where do we go?’ - both Billy and Tommy fell asleep at the end of Wandavision, only for Billy to enter William. Also Billy is looking for Tommy, when he fell asleep, where did he go?
At 2:13 it needs to be pointed out that the greatest flaw with this series is that the toaster they used was not the Toastmate 2000 from Stark Industries that was used in Wandavision.
I haven't seen any mention on how Billy has a Houdini poster in his room and he is called the magician when Lilia was assigning Tarot Cards to everyone during her trial. This show was great on par with Wanda Vision, also an awesome show. Thanks for the break downs i enjoy every video. Thank you @ScreenCrush ❤🎉
There is also a poster from the "Once more with feeling episode" from Buffy. I'm not sure what the reference is here. People say it's about the singing, but I think the Wizard of Oz had that covered already. I think several references can be made. 1) The singing (and dancing) in the "Once more..." episode made people spontaneously combust into flames. In Alice's trial, their song made the Curse combust into flames. I think Billy based that part of the Road on "Once more..." 2) In "Once more..." the songs where supposed to let the characters express their hidden truths. The poster was in the background at the moment where Billy started to figure out his hidden truth (that he made the Road). 3) Buffy's truth was, that when she was resurrected by her friends, she was actually pulled out of a happy place (heaven) into the real world full of worries and demons (hell). "No fear, no doubt, till they pulled me out, of heaven... I live in hell, 'cause I've been expelled from heaven...." This might be a bit similar to what Billy had been through, going from happy hex life to real life, with all the worries about his lost memories, trying to figure out who he was, where Tommy was, etc. 4) Willow's truth was, that her growing witches powers were on a tipping point where they were starting to get out of hand and starting to hurt the people she loved. (Billy realizing he killed Lilia and Alice, with his uncontrolled, growing powers) 5) The demon in "Once more..." came to collect his bride (Dawn) to take her to his dimension, which he called "hell". A bit similar to Rio wanting to take Agatha with her. The demon ended up empty handed (because it was actually Xander who summoned him, and the demon didn't really feel for a husband instead of a wife...). Rio also ended up empty handed. 6) Buffy offered to take Dawns place and go with the demon to hell (Billy offering himself up to Rio), if she couldn't kill the demon. The demon asked her "What if I kill you?", to which Buffy replies "Trust me, it won't help", referring to the two times she already came back from death (Agatha telling Rio that if Billy is killed, he will just reincarnate again). 7) Buffy singing "Life's a show, and we all play our part. And when the music starts, we open up our hearts." (the witches all playing their specific part in Billy's coven, and after the ballad started, both he and Agatha opened their hearts to the others). 8) Emma Caulfield. Edit: 9) Someone online pointed out that Christophe Beck, who produced the Once More With Feeling soundtrack and Buffy-music in general, also co-composed the music for Agatha.
Regarding Emma Caulfild - she sings "there's nothing we can't face, except for bunnies", and Agatha's home is filled with bunnies painting, as well as actual bunny. I just think it's funny 😊
@@hilaloush Haha yes, Anya was terrified of bunnies. Would be a funny nod if it turns out that Sarah was the one who took in Senor Scratchy after Agatha left 😁
She's a ghost because she tricked death. Billy gave up himself up willingly, as part of their agreement. In exchange, the deal was 'I don't want to see you when I die'. If you don't see death when you die, your soul doesn't move on, and so stays as a ghost.
They do that once in a while. It drives me crazy. But this is the first time that I can remember a section happening three times. It has happened twice a few times
I wonder if theres hidden meaning in her line "I spoke no spell. I said no incantation. You were made from scratch." Kinda parallels with "the scarlet witch is not born, she is forged. She has no coven, no need for incantation" and "a being capable of spontaneous creation - this is chaos magic Wanda." I wonder if it's hinting that Agatha knew about the scarlet witch prophecy and was trying to "forge" herself into it by creating life from scratch. That said I can also envision her learning about the scarlet witch from the darkhold which she probably stole to try to get Nicholas back and/or protect herself from Rio
I’m finally caught up lol but I guessed everything buuuuut the long con with the song 😮💨😮💨😮💨 Agatha’s singing at the end at Nicholas’s grace. Oof. I’m a mom of a special needs child who is medically fragile. Making it to birth was a super low chance - having him survive the first few years super wrought with dangers. She did so well with it. 💔 reached into my heart and broke it 😮💨
I dont think I've ever agreed with one of your theories more. You said everything I've personally been thinking so I feel very validated lol. The only thing i thought a little differently on was that maybe they werent killing witches to appease Rio but as a child of Death maybe Nicky needed the power to stay heathly. Which goes along with the idea of him stopping Agatha killing those witches the same day he died. Also I havent seen anyone mention that the reason Agatha said she always left Jen alone in ep 3 (i believe that she really didnt know she was binding her) was because she was a midwife and what she did was important which makes a lot of sense after she gave birth to nicky alone and he technically should have died during birth.
Can we delete Skar now and make Eddie into Teddy please? He was just using his Skrull powers to hide as a human. Simple. No more weird hulk son thing, please. I seriously doubt we're going to get Iron Lad at this point because I am 87% sure they will just use Ironheart, so the only other proper founding member we need is Teddy. And if we get Billy and no Teddy.... what are they even doing?
14:59 Agatha clearly had a relationship with Death before Nickolas. Agatha’s first time taking power was from her own coven in 1693. So clearly in the 50+ years she lived before giving birth to Nickolas she was killing covens. Her fingers haven’t started to blacken in the flashbacks, not even in the more recent flashbacks of her killing covens into the 1970’s and 1980’s, So it’s hard to say when she got the Darkhold…
I Didn't like that they murdered Mrs. Hart. Tortured by Wanda, murdered by Billy and forgotten by the coven. Didn't even get a name engraved at the end. 😢😢😢😢
No lie thank you Screencrush! I was skeptical about this show and it didn’t start sparking my interest until episode 6 but your videos on this show and even other marvel projects makes me respect some of these shows even more. The Easter eggs or hidden meanings or even the perspective you have on these shows makes me appreciate the cinematic art and the symbols put behind everything. It’s like everything you see in movies or tv shows isn’t a coincidence. There is purpose behind everything you see. I find that to be genius when movies/tv shows/video games do this. This show ended well and I’m curious to see what happens next and how it ties all together.
When I watched it, I thought a younger, naive and prideful Agatha was killing witches so she would be powerful enough to stop Death when she comes for her son, but I never thought the killing was what actually was keping him alive. I understood that the reason Agatha couldn't face Nicky on the other side was because regardless of the mass murders, Death came when she was asleep and powerless, therefore all the killing she did (and Nicky enabled) was useless after all. The idea that Death took everything in a meaning that both became murderers to keep him alive is even darker than what I initially imagined...
"And let's not forget that the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice." "And let's not forget that the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice." "And let's not forget that the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice." "And let's not forget that the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice." "And let's not forget that the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice."
My main unanswered question from all this is what was going on with the mementos of Nicky in Agatha's modern-day house? He's been dead for centuries, so obviously he didn't draw pictures in crayon or win a singing competition. My two best guesses are that these are things that were created as part of the illusory life Agatha is living at the start of the show (which would be strange given that they don't disappear when she escapes) or that she actually did get Nicky back for a time using the Darkhold. Or perhaps there's a simpler explanation that I missed?
I really wish they had made it clear that Nicholas is Agatha and Rio's child, and that Agatha started killing witches to appease Death and buy her more time with Nicholas. Watching the episode just on its own was really confusing, and I wish we saw more of Agatha and Rio's actual back story of how they met
Jac Schaeffer actually said that was the plan to show how Agatha met Death through the corpse Agatha left behind. But perhaps it would become too long and dragged out. So they ended up canceling that.
20:19 also in billy’s room is a buffy the vampire slayer poster from the musical episode once more with feeling. Its eventually revealed the demon of the episode was summoned by Xander, one of the main characters and Buffy’s sister stole the amulet. Good intentions, journey affected by the main cast, individual songs instead of trials, younger sibling only exists because of ‘main’ character, demon vanquished
I'm glad the lady explained how Billy's room was full of references that he made the road, seeing as how the scene itself wasn't doing anything to ensure the viewers knew that when they watched it.....
just realized that the witches needed in the coven to “open to witches road” are the kind whose magic agatha said she couldn’t use in this scene with nicholas “I cannot heal you” - potions witch “I cannot protect you” - protection witch “I cannot divine” - divination witch
Billy also had a 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer Once More With Feeling' poster! I am guessing since this was specifically the musical episode, the meaning for this placement was to pay homage to singing done in this show?? lol Or just a neat reference.
Kinda sad in retrospect, that when Lorna Wu popularized the ballad to protect her daughter it probably led more women into the trap of histories most prolific serial killer.
Agatha had to have made that trophy long after Nick died. Like the trauma was deep enough she made things up about him like he died recently. Id guess if really dived into his room we'd see more.
I just rewatched the original witches road song and while Agatha is recruiting Sharon (who’s Sharon?), Sharon starts to talk about fluffy azaleas. Thought that was a neat call back.
Yes that’s what she was doing in ep 1 or 2.She even tried to make them mad by calling them embarrassing like she had been doing and they showed it work on witches in the past.
@ this show was great writing like I’m picking up on little stuff i thought the queen of cups was the only 1 u had to put a puzzle together and i wonder why she made mrs.davis come when she wasn’t a witch ?

How did he get award for vocal choir if he died long ago before those existed
@@hondat09 He didn't. Agatha just made the award up (magically I suppose).
@ScreenCrush smh you forgot Agatha's purple power is an evil purple entity that she has to feed it power in order to live forever
What I find amusing is that Jennifer left, probably thinking, the witches road is real, and will spread that story. lol
Yeah, I just posted that my wife noticed that.
So Billy is that powerful, not realising until the end that he created a witches road.
She will now be counted with Agatha as the only ones to survive the road
It is now real because Billy has the power to create new worlds.
Omg i didn’t even think of that 😂😂😂
Just a note, the change in the song from "windy road" to "witches road" goes to the origins of the word Witch.
"How many survived your first walk down the Witches' Road?"
Agatha, sadly: "One".
Nicky didn't survive.... UGH
Also the "Coven Two" line meant differently now
Cries in purple
😭
It just hit me. No wonder Agatha didn't care that Sharon wasn't a witch and wasn't singing. It wasn't supposed work anyway.
That should have been our first clue it was all a sham and also when she says just strike me you bitches
But Jen or Lilia didn't have powers either so they wouldn't have been able to strike Agatha. And we didn't even think Alice had powers till later.
@@leomonaghan3933 For now.
@@blairhoughton7918i think you are confusing Rio with Billy. bc he was the one who asked about Nicky.
@@kaleksykt Oh. I misheard it then. Well. That's very different. Never mind.
Another fact about Dandelions is that they do not need to be pollinated by another flower in order to produce seed. Clearly a reflection of her son’s immaculate conception - an absence of father.
Are you saying that he was the chosen one?
@thomashendricks9774 Rio/Death & Agatha could be the parent's of Nicholas. Rio being Death means her child(ren) only live so long as looking at the Greeko Roman history the demigods born to Gods/Goddesses of the under world only live to around 12 when they would be recognized as full Adults at 15. With Rio being 6 to 8 tears of death above the Greeko Roman God's it stands to reason her son living longer could have caused a universal collapsing event.
@@nathanielstacy4488 I was making a Star Wars joke. 😁
Insert Mephisto theory
@@thomashendricks9774funny this came out in the same year as Acolyte. The parallels!
This show was really beautiful in so many ways. It was about the love of a mother, unconditional and unending. And there were so many poignant lines that broke my heart.
"I spoke no spell, I said no incantation. You-- you, I made, from scratch."
"No, Billy. Sometimes, boys die."
It's a parallel to Wanda. Both she and Agatha made their boys, "from scratch," and both would do anything, terrible things, for their boys. Only to find themselves unable to face their own children for the things they had done to save them. One of the best Marvel series I've seen.
That line about "boys die" broke me...
Tears just flowed nonstop
@@BrokenSoulConfession Same here.
Ugh. SAME. So many heartbreaking and powerful moments. I’m so happy to see this show touched so many people. 💚
Did anyone notice the bell that Nicholas steals from the witch is the same one that Agatha uses when their singing the Ballad of the witch road in episode two
New Rockstars did
Agatha sprayed lavender on Billy and Tommy when they were babies crying in the crib.
She is one of the most complicated characters in the MCU so far and now one of my favorites!
I forgot about that scene. Thanks
“THERES NO TAMING THIS TIGER!😉”
Now it makes more sense why she was fascinated with Wanda’s power because she created life out of nowhere and why she killed their dog to see if you can bring to the dead to life so if she takes her powers she can bring back her son
Interesting theory.
She wasn’t in this episode much, but Sasheer Zamata really impressed me in this show. You forget how good actors are when they come from SNL, but she was so freaking great.
100%
SNL has been wasting talent for 50 years.
Omg. When she broke the binding spell I literally almost cried. She is so much more talented than I imagined. I’m glad she was cast in this series!
I think this episode was her best but to me she over acted at points, taking me out of moments and the illusion of it being real and not a show
I honestly don’t like her acting, just my opinion. Everyone else was fantastic.
Also when Agatha says "let's go find tommy"
Is a great show of character development. Cause if you remember, when she was talking to Billy after climbing through the mud; she said Tommy's name wrong, and he had to correct her.
The acting, the story...this show delivered so much and I am so happy I watched it.
I agree 💯
Yup this is my theory too
So how does death typically work? Does she just transport people to either heaven or hell? What about her comment “I can’t face him”?
This show is the reason why this quote exists:
"Don't judge a book by it's cover"
A lot of people mocked this show even before it was released, but look at how this was a masterpiece. We need more quality shows MARVEL (Disney)!
First two episode were very boring (IMO) so I didnt felt a need to keep watching. And it didnt seem to picm up too much from those breakdowns
People were just ready to hate on Marvel/Disney.It’s hilarious seeing people try to say the first few episodes were boing lol
Or are they all masterpieces, and we don't understand the master?
I thought it would be shit and the first 2 ep had me knowing I was correct, bit ep3 changed that, but it was way to gay.
Since Vision Quest is the third part to this WandaVision Trilogy, maybe it will include Tommy and end with Vision assembling the Young Avengers
Marvel has been getting hate for their recent stuff and I was so afraid people would hate this show but I loved it! And it was incredibly well written. So glad it’s done well
The haters don't even deserve knowing they had an effect.
Looks like they are back on track. Echo XMEN 97 and Agatha have all been good.
@ echo and secret invasion are probably the 2 worst ones
She also says to Agatha “walking with another woman’s son on a road that doesn’t exist” because she knows Agatha made up the road
She knows Agatha made up the road and she knows that the road they were on wasn’t supposed to exist and it was created by Billy
Good catch!
I didn't catch the connection that the things that her powers couldn't do for Nicholas (heal, protect, divine what will happen) were the powers that members of her "new" coven had
This is easily one of the best Disney plus shows.
11:02 It's also worth noting that Dandelions are considered weeds, which makes it symbolic of how witches are shunned by society and how Agatha was shunned by witches.
19:44 this is also the album where ‘ you should see me in a crown ‘ comes from which is the song that plays when the reveal happens in episode 5!!
She never thought he was Nicky. She was protective of him because she knew that if Billy died, she would be stuck in his illusion of the witches road forever, just as she was stuck under Wanda’s spell for 3 years.
Yup Agatha is truly the new Loki now. Don't know if she's being selfish or selfless.
Kathryn Hahn gave me chills in this episode, you could feel Agatha pain
The one show I thought I wouldn’t like ended up being my number 2 favorite show behind Loki it was some of the best script writing marvel has done.
I agree. Dialog was a C+ at times. But story was very good
Just realized that “that boy isn’t yours “ line has so many meanings now… 1. Billy is not your son Nicky 2. Billy is not yours to keep 3. Billy is mine 4. Nicky is mine
stoppppppp
But Rio admitted in E8 that she didn't know who he was until then.
You know what's interesting we can look at the loss of Nicholas Scratch as a custody dispute between Agatha and Rio. Rio finally got to have custody rights after sometime
It’s going to be so funny to watch ghost Agatha and Billy find Vision and Tommy. Vision is gonna be so confused to see a ghost 😂
If he can even see her. So far, we have seen only witches being able to see ghosts. (Which means next to nothing, as only witches were around when ghosts appeared in AAA...)
I bet they'll do a "Vis had a theory about ghosts. He thought they were real" like from MoM
@SebDystic or would he even be able to detect her with out the mind stone augmenting his sensors?
He already saw his own ghost.
@blairhoughton7918 if The reactivated Body registered another vision & knows it no longer exist it may within his processor log it as a hollowgram that triggered a hard river back up to innitiate.
That “Coven 2” call back I didn’t even notice. Amazing writing

Brianna is a treasure. Thank you for all the work you put into all of these videos
When Agatha is able to push the cameo out of Billy's hand it's very reminiscent of another movie, Ghost where Patrick Swayzes Sam is able to move objects with his strong emotions.
Didn't Agatha ask not to see Rio's face when she died? That's probably why she's a ghost, as Rio didn't take her.
That was when they had a deal but Agatha broke that deal so her becoming a ghost was because she didn’t want to see Nick and not something Rio wanted
But if Rio still honored that request then maybe that’s why she’s a ghost.
@ I doubt it..She was mad that Agatha lied about giving her Billy. And Agatha kisses her and obsorbed her powers like how she stole powers and I would say that made her a ghost along with maybe her really not wanting to see Nicky enough that she willed herself into a ghost

@@gavinthegoliath Don't worry, the milk will be coming any day now.

The interesting thing that gets missed is that when Rio appears, Nicky just goes off with her. He recognized her because she was his mother's partner. it was a sort of custody dispute.
What did you think of the episode?
Agatha: "Now I'm a ghost. Can you dig it?"
Can you recap every clue that shows Rio being Death?
Not great, not terrible. Just okay.
It was great
Phenomenal series 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Alice wasn't on the road to end her familial curse. She was there looking for her mom. Otherwise she would have disappeared at the end of the 70s episode.
You made a great point!
She wanted to reunite with her mom. And Death made that possible. 😭
she was still on the road to protect her coven after she lifted the curse that was her "want" from the road,
Alice already knew her mother died on road tour
Been here since week 1 it came out love the breakdown videos
Agatha is a wonderful example of a what a series can be like when you have a passion for it, when compared to numerous others Marvel has put out where they seemingly have phoned it in. We need more Wanda/Agatha-level series!!!
The opening theme music in episode one has the lyrics winding road instead of witches road. How fitting considering she’s trying to put her mind back together as a detective story. She has gotten far enough to reminder she had Nicky and he was dead, so the lyrics are his version.
Catching a dandelion seed or blowing a dandelion clear of its seeds allows you to make a wish. I saw her planting the last seed as a final wish.
I considered this when talking to my friend, the knives hanging is a reference to Damocles, however I have so many images of the kinds of swordplay Houndini would get involved with I think it fits well
He had a very famous escape act called metamorphosis, which I think is also the reference
Nice catch.
Takes 3 to make a coven, 2 is just a pair…
The Triple Goddess, Hekate (Hecate), the Mother Maiden Crone, the same entity under different names.
It was a really good series, the part that hit me the hardest was when her son stepped into the afterlife, as a dad theat really got to me
That was truly sad.
“Walk with another woman’s son” was referring to Agatha walking or having a parent relationship with billly Wanda’s son……
More so using him to fill her son's shoes.
At 2:13 it needs to be pointed out that the greatest flaw with this series is that the toaster they used was not the Toastmate 2000 from Stark Industries that was used in Wandavision.
Why would Billy's Hex and Wanda's Hex have the same toaster? Billy doesn't even remember Wanda
@@enadegheeghaghe6369 The toaster was in a flash back of Jennifer's memory.
Billy's attic room is also shaped almost like a pentagram, as was the door to the witches road.
I think Billy based that part of the Road on "Once more..."
2) In "Once more..." the songs where supposed to let the characters express their hidden truths.
(Billy realizing he killed Lilia and Alice, with his uncontrolled, growing powers)
5) The demon in "Once more..." came to collect his bride (Dawn) to take her to his dimension, which he called "hell".

I wonder if theres hidden meaning in her line "I spoke no spell. I said no incantation. You were made from scratch." Kinda parallels with "the scarlet witch is not born, she is forged. She has no coven, no need for incantation" and "a being capable of spontaneous creation - this is chaos magic Wanda."
I wonder if it's hinting that Agatha knew about the scarlet witch prophecy and was trying to "forge" herself into it by creating life from scratch. That said I can also envision her learning about the scarlet witch from the darkhold which she probably stole to try to get Nicholas back and/or protect herself from Rio
I’m finally caught up lol but I guessed everything buuuuut the long con with the song 😮💨😮💨😮💨
Agatha’s singing at the end at Nicholas’s grace. Oof. I’m a mom of a special needs child who is medically fragile. Making it to birth was a super low chance - having him survive the first few years super wrought with dangers.

Is it just me or did the first Witch searching for the road Agatha came across looks a lot like a young Mrs. Heart.

Her fingers haven’t started to blacken in the flashbacks, not even in the more recent flashbacks of her killing covens into the 1970’s and 1980’s,
So it’s hard to say when she got the Darkhold…
Genuinely enjoyed the twist! Chef’s kiss on that!
I Didn't like that they murdered Mrs. Hart. Tortured by Wanda, murdered by Billy and forgotten by the coven. Didn't even get a name engraved at the end. 😢😢😢😢
lol, this has to be an s tier joke right? :P her name was sharon SHA-RON xD
So like a custody dispute between Agatha and Death concerning Nicholas Scratch? As to why Agatha was angry with Death?
I've been refreshing UA-cam every hour, waiting for your ep 9 breakdown! Love SC
This show ended well and I’m curious to see what happens next and how it ties all together.
yeah there's a beauty in the art of media as every single piece of what you see has to be decided and a good show will leave little to no effect :)

You missed the part where the most popular version of the song Lorna Wu's version, was actually a protection song for Alice.
They went over it
So nice they told us twice
@@ecokrazy
Yes, twice. That was the intended joke. (I believe.)
@@eastvandb while I didn't read it as a joke, if it is, ya got me. Totally got me.
also don't forget about how the most popular version of the song (Lorna Wu's version) was actually a protection song, for Alice.
10:27 just like Wanda’s sons called her on bringing the dog back, Agatha asked about it
Fantastic show and amazing breakdowns thank you for all your hard work I looked forward to next video every week
Say that again
15:20 whoa, it's like looking in a mirror. whoa, it's like looking in a mirror.
I really wish they had made it clear that Nicholas is Agatha and Rio's child, and that Agatha started killing witches to appease Death and buy her more time with Nicholas. Watching the episode just on its own was really confusing, and I wish we saw more of Agatha and Rio's actual back story of how they met
Nah, I like that they don't spell it out for the audience and leave it ambiguous.
Jac Schaeffer actually said that was the plan to show how Agatha met Death through the corpse Agatha left behind. But perhaps it would become too long and dragged out. So they ended up canceling that.
Death isn't the dad. It's just some rando Agatha probably killed.
20:19 also in billy’s room is a buffy the vampire slayer poster from the musical episode once more with feeling. Its eventually revealed the demon of the episode was summoned by Xander, one of the main characters and Buffy’s sister stole the amulet. Good intentions, journey affected by the main cast, individual songs instead of trials, younger sibling only exists because of ‘main’ character, demon vanquished
also, this was a terrific show, right up there with Wandavision and Loki.
I'm glad the lady explained how Billy's room was full of references that he made the road, seeing as how the scene itself wasn't doing anything to ensure the viewers knew that when they watched it.....
Right? I thought he was just pretending like he’d never seen the room he’d been living in for the past 3 years before
just realized that the witches needed in the coven to “open to witches road” are the kind whose magic agatha said she couldn’t use in this scene with nicholas
“I cannot heal you” - potions witch
“I cannot protect you” - protection witch
“I cannot divine” - divination witch
I cannot create food for you - earth/life/death witch
Billy also had a 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer Once More With Feeling' poster! I am guessing since this was specifically the musical episode, the meaning for this placement was to pay homage to singing done in this show?? lol Or just a neat reference.
Agatha is a ghost because she made death promise to not show her face when Agatha dies.
Thanks ScreenCrush! Really enjoyed these Agatha videos, so well analysed and presented. Great work. 👏😀
Ooh and let's not forget that Lorna Wu's version was a protection song for Alice...

I just rewatched the original witches road song and while Agatha is recruiting Sharon (who’s Sharon?), Sharon starts to talk about fluffy azaleas. Thought that was a neat call back.
Was out just me, or did the first lady looking for the road look like she could be one of Sharons ancestors? Giving her some magickal lineage?
or perhaps showing she secretly was an old dotty witch who had just grown real old and forgetful lol
The show and all the videos were wonderful, thank you guys, so much fun watching with you
I just realized that Agatha knew the road wasn’t real and was just going to kill them and take their power 😩🤣
She picked Mrs Davis because the other witches wouldn't start unless they had a green witch. So Agatha just used her as a fake witch.
@ dang that’s kinda even more messed up 😩🤦🏽♀️ i thought it was going to be something kinda good since she knew her
She literally says that in the show.
