    I have 97' 2500 v10 4x4 extended cab. for the world of gas engines, this truck does really well for low end torque. every time something goes wrong, we just fix it and it always starts up, no matter how long it sits or how cold it gets. Take it up hunting in the thick brush and who cares. get firewood and beat the shit out of it, and who cares. Its one of them good old gassers everyone should have that live in the country or on a farm

    • @Indeewoods
      @Indeewoods  2 роки тому +4

      You are 110% right. They are the ultimate farm truck. -40 cold start not an issue, they run on bad gas, and all kinds of off the line grunt like you say.
      The only major downfall is they are hard on fuel.

  • @blueduck9409

    Those dodge V10s are pretty strong. You should use premium gasoline when towing 11,000 pounds.

    • @Indeewoods
      @Indeewoods  Рік тому +2

      The engines in these are very low compression plus i’m at minimum 3500 feet so premium fuel is not needed here unless it has no ethanol in it which then would be a bit of a benefit i’m guessing.
      I sold the truck over a year ago couldn’t afford to feed it lol

      Prolly about 40k grand more expensive for a newer duramax and a regear would prolly bring a v10 dodge into its league. Thing about power is that it can come from the engine or the gearing and every old 4 speed pickup was geared too high. Slap some 410 or even 456 gears in and all the sudden you got a 8k pound muscle truck

    I got a 95 dodge ram v10 dually 4x4 love the truck. It was my grandpa's truck I think he bought it new been pulling trailer since day one. Now I got it and i love it, but right now getting fixed becuase I blew a head gasket and now got the engine torn apart replacing all the gaskets. Then I found out the valve body in the transmission is burnt out. Now I'm debating on get the transmission in the truck rebuild which is 6,600 dallors to rebuild it with all the upgrades or buy a "new" trans for 2200 dallors. I got the older 47rh transmission. Other then those things I love the truck it was my most reliable 4x4 till the head gasket blew.

    I have 2 of these trucks a 2500 srw and a 3500 drw I'm scared to admit I have towed way more with both of them than what they are rated for. But yea going uphill or in my case up the passes is an acceleration struggle. But I wouldn't trade them for anything. My dad's the 2500 which I now own is extremely high miles and the 3500 has now 279,xxx so still a baby I've had her since December 2020 and I bought her with 236,020

      Ya My truck is a beast has some rust but it seems very reliable (knock on wood) lol
      It still pulls better than a V8 would up in the hills and it’s a super smooth engine.
      It’s just the gas it guzzles that I don’t like.
      I like the Cummins better for off roading it just has a nicer power for that but the noise gets annoying.
      My V10 rides a lot smoother on the bush roads as well vs the Cummins trucks i’ve had.

      And do you know what gears?
      I was thinking of building up this V10 strictly for towing and lowering the gear ratio.

Yes both are the V10 my fiance has the cummins 5.9 24v and I hate his truck with a passion it's an 02 with 395,xxx and has been the most unreliable thing on the planet. I'm not sure what the gear ratios are as I've never really looked into it. They both have the Dana 80 rear ends though as far as I know. Both are 2wd though I'm toying with going ahead and doing 4x4 conversions on both. The Dually is an extended cab long bed and the 2500 is a regular cab long bed. Though I'm thinking of making the 2500 a flat bed since the bed on it is toast. Cab I as rust free on it but the bed has had a few fights over the years with backhoes and fork lifts in attempts to load roundbales into the bed. My dually is from Mexico city and Missouri areas so not to much to talk about rust wise, besides a bit of surface rust on the hood. Besides that nothing. Jasens truck which was an Alaska truck then Canada and finally Washington truck has quite a bit of rust but someone tried covering it with fender flares and the chrome trim for the doors and parts of the bed. Not to mention trying some rhino liner on the cab corners...

There’s no issues there. Very smooth. running engine just hard on fuel.

It down shifts on take off when given throttle, so I have to gently apply throttle or else it down sifts and shutters and revs high on rpm as it up shifts hard into second then sometimes slips. My V10 has power when driving 40-50 mph but gear hunts 2-3 when OD is off and 3-4 when OD is on. It does up shift and down shift fair, it goes into OD at 55-60mph on highway but I feel like when holding the throttle half way I feel it gradually losing torque. so in basic terms...my transmission is tired... :(
