Lots of high frequencies. Nice recording. Ray Noble I believe conducting the New Mayfair Orchestra.

Yes, it’s Ray Noble directing here. And yes. I don’t like like to cut everything above 5 kHz to eliminate noise (like many others do…). There is almost always something to hear and it makes a recording more lively.

Yes that’s true. I never cut the highs. People state that the frequency will not pass 10.000 Hz anyway, but that’s not true. There is prove that especially the HMV records made in England used their own microphones because they were not satisfied with the Westrix supplied microphones. 14.000 was more the norm in England.
But for long the Victor and other companies cut everything at 10.000 Hz.
Was until 1996 the Din 45.500 norm for Hi-Fi not 40-12.500 Hz? So there was not so much difference.
What most people do wrong is playing the 78’s with RIAA correction.
For the liveliness of 78’s you must use a linear preamp without RIAA. And only make corrections at the low frequencies. There starts the troublesome subject of the right turn point for the low frequencies 😀😀 that’s a subject for another time. 😊😊😊

Yes. In the late 30s Victor had a high cut at 5000kHz and otherwise an almost RIAA curve. Luckily I own a phono pre that is highly adjustable. I can set it to any equalization I want. Love experimenting with it.
