Hi i have a 1990 15hp also good for 7000 rpm max i dont get close to that with it on my 11 feet soft inflatable boat get 21mph with 9.25×10 aluminium propeller the last 25% to get to wot does more noize but not more speed should i get a prop with less pitch? Weight in the boat does not seem to affect top speed always 21 mph Thanks
The fact that you have soft inflatable boat is I think reason you can’t go faster, it’s producing so much more drag in the water than aluminum Jon boat. Once I tried my good 15 hp on boat like this and I was disappointed with performance . Your motor seems to be good if you get that speed. Not sure if changing propeller would help it .
I was looking at 15 hp motors and I found good deals on a Suzuki and evinrude 15 horse which one do you think is better and why they are about the same price and condition
Yes, on this motor you use notches on the motor. Most of the propellers I seen on these motors were 10 pitch aluminum, very seldom11 pitch, more seldom 9 pitch and motors installed on pontoon boats may have big bladed 7 or 8 pitch. Most versatile for regular Jon boat is in my opinion 9 pitch with either 9.9 or 15 HP.
certain years of the Evinrude and the Johnson 15 horse was a high performance motor read to 7000 RPMs would had over 15 horse at the prop not like the old style motor
You are probably overproped. Look at your propeller and see what pitch you have. If it’s over 13 it’s probably to high for your set up. Try 11 or 12 pitch. If you have 13 pitch one which was standard and you can’t reach 26 MPH with 1448 Jon boat with trolling motor and battery there is something wrong with your motor, not the prop. Check compression, if it’s 100 or les this maybe the culprit.
vojomatusenko yes sir the butterfly was not totally horizontal , and After adjustment I was able to reach 25.7 , I cannot find a stamp on the prop , I still need to remove it to check the pitch , I’m hoping it’s stamped on the inside !
Probably best motor ever made

you still have this motor.

Evinrude. Because they are more reliable, drink less gas and are faster
15 hp is 15 hp. Doesn't matter which brand.
how do you keep the front end from rising up and losing speed
While on plane you want less of the boat bottom be touching the water if you want to get top speed. You can control that with trim setting.
oh so you use the electric trim to make it right and or the notches in the boat motor that raises it up and down?
oh and i heard him say 10 pitch standard aluminum propeller so each propeller has dif pitch certain pitch for certain boat

You got that thing tuned!
One of my best ones.
@@vojomatusenko you ever modify props? (Cupping)

I have the same boat with a 92 Johnson 25 and can’t get over 23 mph ! Your Rpms are much higher

Also check your throttle butterfly if it’s completely horizontal while it’s at the full throttle. Adjust it and make it horizontal.

That thing hauls for a 15hp! I have a 15hp evinrude on my 13’ Alaskan. It will do 21mph with just me.
Is that one for sale?
Yes.
@Got_nuffin_on_me No, it’s long gone.
Put a set of boyesen power reeds and a good ss prop with a little cup and down 1 pitch and the 15 will put 20 and 25 to shame.
