I don't think I could get 'addicted' to that much work to make a burger. But thanks for your effort and video. The Oklahoma Onion Burger (double meat, double cheese) is still my favorite.
I'm glad you gave this one a try Greg, it's always interesting to see your take on something even if it might not be up your alley. I definitely agree with you about having binders with the meat! Some meats will require it of course but I think we can agree that beef needs to be left to shine on its own. Cheers!
Glad to see you had the same reaction I did. I mixed up a batch of the crack burger meat before camping and we did smash burgers with it that night. Despite being sticky it smashed pretty well, but we found nothing extraordinary about the flavor or them despite all the ingredients. We definitely prefer unadulterated ground beef. Keep up the great work Greg!
Hey Greg, Out here on the West Coast, while we have a hard time finding Duke’s, we can usually find Kewpie from Japan, even if you have to go to an Asian store. It gives Duke’s a run for their money.
I am also of the "simple is better" with burgers, but I think my kids would love these and getting kids to eat anything that ins't mac n cheese is a win in my book!
Anytime I've tried mixing everything into the meat it didn't turn out well. I'm glad you made this video. It's going to save me some time because I was thinking about trying it but now I don't think I will. As far as I'm concerned you are THE authority on burgers. Thanks again!
What I find helps (I do this for meatloaf), is to mix all of the other ingredients together first, and then add them to the beef. Helps reduce the amount you need to work the meat to get everything incorporated. Great video.😊
Well done for sticking with it - it's almost making a sausage type of patty with seasonings and other additions. That works with pork mince up to a point to make a sausage meat type of mix, yes, but seems such a waste with beef, especially any better grade of beef. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
Greg, I'm so glad you said something about the salt content! I was watching you add all that stuff and thinking to myself, good grief that's going to be VERY salty! I agree with you...don't violate the beef! This is like trying to make a burger out of a meatloaf. The burger patties reminded me of deviled ham. Another cardinal sin...yellow cheddar on a burger is terrible! It reminds me of a layer of epoxy after it "melts". Kudos to you for venturing outside of what you know is good and trying something different! I don't think I'd waste my time on this.
I had decent results by mixig some yogurt and ranch powder into the usual burger sauce, I feel like the ground beef mixture as is could be scaled up into a nice meatloaf, could use some kind of binder I think
Great video, Greg. I made a video of this burger about a year ago, and I totally agree with you. It's good but all burgers are good. I watched several videos before I did mine and saw that they were all falling apart, so when I did mine, I added bread crumbs (meatloaf) lol. Once again, great lookin burger Greg. Have a great week, my friend.
This video is another wonderful example of the outstanding quality of your videos. I can share all your concerns about the preparation one hundred percent and then your perfect conclusion too. That is further confirmation for me why I like your videos so much 👍👍👍
Greg, liked when you said going against your rule of not mixing anything in with the ground beef. Glad you went ahead and did, saving us from breaking that same rule. The part I always hate is trying to keep the patty intact when flipping.
Thank you, Craig. It just doesn't make any since at all mixing a bunch of stuff into the ground beef. I love meatloaf, but I'm not on board at all with calling a meatloaf sandwich a burger. Thanks again, brother!
I tried making that back when it was going around, and I totally agree with you! I didn't think it was that great either. Good, sure. But definitely not "addictive."
Thanks for sharing the technique of boiling the bacon. Will have to try that. I have added water to bacon in a pan in the past with good results. Boiling for 1.5 hours is something I have never heard of. As for the crack burger, it’s not something I would even bother with, surprised it didn’t fall apart without a binder such as an egg. I would try this in meatloaf form but not as a burger. Love your channels and appreciate the time you put into content, cheers.
Good show Greg. I'm with you on not adding too much to the beef, and this is way too much (especially the sour cream). Will try that boiled bacon trick though!
Great video, I'm with you, the same taste profile can be made without adding all those ingredients into the pattie. As soon as you have to work wet and dry ingredients into the ground beef you have to work it, ending up with more of a sausage mix where you want that emulsification of fat and meat. You did well with grilling those bad boys!
I agree with you 100%, I do NOT like adding anything to my burgers. If I wanted meatloaf, I would make meatloaf. I don't understand the point of adding cheese in the burger then on top.
I agreed with you 100%, just put what you want on the burger, not in it ! I tried doing the cheddar cheese, jalapeños, etc. My best homemade burger was a hand made patty 75-25 mix on a stove top in a Lodge cast iron grill pan covered in Burgundy wine poured over it. That burger had to be between 1/2 to 3/4 pound, hand formed.
It looks very tasty and I am sure that it tastes very good too. But if I would recreate this, I would just do it with a regular patty, or smash burger style.
I never listen to other peoples opinions on burgers. The 2 best burgers I ever had came out of Roswell NM. One was a bbq crispy jalapeno brurger, and one was a Chorizo patty infused with red chiles with peanutebutter sauce and jely sauce. Best burgers ever, people thing about it and think its not right. because they dont know food.
I always make those bacon type patties for my breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. Soo good! Also I remember a video where you recreated a burger from a chef's video (think it was Gordon Ramsay) back in the day and it called for putting stuff in the meat before cooking.. you were critiquing it the same as this video lol. Still think it should be saved for meatloaf and meatballs.
I would be interested in a video where you just cover your top 10 favorite burgers that you've cooked up. You could do it once a year in case the list changes and then you can have links to each of the individual burger videos in the comments.
It looks like a lot of work. I agree. I think it's a good sandwich. Something along the lines of a next day meatloaf sandwich that you reheat on the BBQ and add bacon and cheese. It's just a good sandwich. Cheers Edit: I watched Elite BBQ Smokers Crack Burger and yes, that is going to be one tasty burger. Greg, make a version of that one. Cheers again.
The way I see it (and the way I do it), is if the toppings (bacon, cheese, seasonings, etc.) are mixed into the meat, the burger needs no additional toppings whatsoever, other than sauce.
Looks good, something different. Can you start doing sides with your videos. You could go crazy, million ideas out there. Keep up the good work brother!
Hi Greg, it's Mike and I trust you and your good lady are well. Your last video giving us a great demo of Wendy's Mushroom Burger generated a lot of interesting comments from your loyal subscribers. But hey Greg, did you go AWOL after that ??? Anyway, ok, yep another great Burger video. I really appreciated all the detailed prep info. I picked up the trick of boiling the bacon from your Hodad's video and it sure does work. Really great Burger thanks to your customary no nonsense presentation. Cheers Greg, Mike.
Hi Mike. Yeah... We had a ton of family stuff pop up and I just dropped the ball on responding to comments. I'll go back and try to follow up. Thanks for the comment, brother!
I agree with you Greg, use the same ingredients but as toppings or sauce rather than mixed in the burger. I would mix the shredded lettuce with the sour cream to make a slaw. I have to say that boiled bacon sounds really odd, but I've watched enough of your vids to trust your judgement to give it a try.
I tried the crack burger and also wasn't impressed with it. Didn't see what all the hype was. Kind of a thought I have about all burger reviews, is leave the bacon off. As you said, the bacon was the star of the show. The bacon disguises the taste of the burger itself. A simple burger and bun, no condiments, focuses on the taste of the burger itself.
Yeah, I thought it was sketchy too to mix in the stuff in the meat. I think Guga made once a video where he put French Soup Salad Dressing on a burger or steak and it enhanced the flavour, but sprinkling it on top - not mixing it. Tried it too and could tell a difference - it was very tasty. The cheese and sour cream sounds very suspicious, I suspect they use cheaper meat and/or more fat to make the patties cheaper and add cheese and sour cream to cut through the fat from the meat? Anyway, at least we know. But damn, the salt in that burger could be used to make a little aquarium salty enough for salt fishes. I mean the mayo has salt, the pickles, bacon, the cheese, buns also have salt naturally. Just want to scream xD
I tried it a few weeks ago. It's absolutely not worth the hype. I didn't find it to be particularly special and would have greatly preferred a standard burger.
I am not on board with these "trendy" burgers that have been all over the Internet the past couple years. Some things mankind got right the first time. Basic ground beef, tavern-style or smash or however you like to cook yours (I'm a tavern-style thick burger guy myself, smash burgers are too dry for my taste), basic toppings, on a sesame seed bun. Easy, cheap, delicious, and no fancy-pants showing off for Instagram. It ain't rocket science.
I'm glad you made this video, not so much to please whoever suggested it, but to debunk these viral hoaxes that don't really work. Maybe the sauce could be salvaged and the boiled and then fried bacon part. Big hug from Puerto Rico!
dude, Ranch powder in a shaker? you Americans get all the best shit down there. that's like, 20 packets worth of Ranch powder in a shaker bottle. insane
With burgers like this I always feel it's a bit over board. It's taking away from the star of the show. Let the beef shine and use high quality ingredients. It'll be amazing just like that
I don't think I could get 'addicted' to that much work to make a burger.
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for keeping an open mind Greg. Never be afraid to try new things, even if they are initial anathema to you. It's what makes it entertaining.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Yeah, I think this is just a concoction created for the internet. Cheers!
When I make meatloaf, or similar I use a large fork. It helps not smear the protein, and helps some with the texture

You're the first person in history to MENTION the concave buns. I hate that about store bought buns.
What I find helps (I do this for meatloaf), is to mix all of the other ingredients together first, and then add them to the beef. Helps reduce the amount you need to work the meat to get everything incorporated. Great video.😊
Great tip!
I was using ranch powder in hamburgers 25 years ago. Still my favorite is Lipton onion soup mix!
Well done for sticking with it - it's almost making a sausage type of patty with seasonings and other additions. That works with pork mince up to a point to make a sausage meat type of mix, yes, but seems such a waste with beef, especially any better grade of beef. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

Hmm...looks good. We did this back in the 70's, minus the cheese and sour cream. Lipton Onion Soup mix burgers were also popular.
I had decent results by mixig some yogurt and ranch powder into the usual burger sauce, I feel like the ground beef mixture as is could be scaled up into a nice meatloaf, could use some kind of binder I think
What a burger. Probably too much work for me. Thanks for the great video. I appreciate your insights, very informative.
Way too much for me too. Cheers, Paul!
Thanks for your honest opinion, Greg. Defo going to try out that bacon. Cheers.
UPDATE: Tried it and LIKED IT! Thanks, Greg.

Thank you! I appreciate the comment!
Thanks for taking one for the team Greg. More trouble than it's worth. I've never been a fan of ranch dust.
We love Ranch dip and dressing, but you won't see me mixing in my ground beef again!
Appreciate your content.
Greg, liked when you said going against your rule of not mixing anything in with the ground beef. Glad you went ahead and did, saving us from breaking that same rule. The part I always hate is trying to keep the patty intact when flipping.

Great video. Your harissa sauce looks delicious👍😊
That sauce was really good! Cheers, Bobbi!

Since you mixed the meat, ie protein extraction, I wonder it this would make a good sausage? Stuff in some casings.
Maybe you should have run it through the grinder after you mixed it. That would give you the air channels for the fat to flow.
Over work it even more? That'll just make it even closer to an emulsion
Good show Greg. I'm with you on not adding too much to the beef, and this is way too much (especially the sour cream). Will try that boiled bacon trick though!
Thank you, Don! Hope you and yours are doing well. This blend was so gooey! Cheers, brother!

Sounds great! I did a burger with wine a while back. Good stuff!
It looks very tasty and I am sure that it tastes very good too. But if I would recreate this, I would just do it with a regular patty, or smash burger style.

agree
What a loaded burger. Cheers, Greg! 👍👍✌️🍔
Thank you for watching, Dwayne!
What if you mix it and then run it through the grinder again to loosen it up?
I think it would still be very sticky, but it's worth a try.
I definitely agree with you,.....treat the burger like steak..🙃 it tastes soooo much better left alone...
Exactly! Thanks for watching!
It does look good Greg however I’m in your camp……..ground beef purist 😊
Thanks for watching, Gary!
I always make those bacon type patties for my breakfast bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. Soo good! Like your honest opinion, I made my first 'crack' burger about two week ago and thought the very same thing.
I would be interested in a video where you just cover your top 10 favorite burgers that you've cooked up. You could do it once a year in case the list changes and then you can have links to each of the individual burger videos in the comments.
That's a great idea! I'll put something like that together with a little B-Roll and the links. Thanks!
I use the “pork king” ranch seasoning any time a recipe calls for ranch seasoning. It’s way cleaner
I'll look for that brand. May have to order it, because this is the first time I have ever heard of it. Thanks!
It looks like a lot of work. I agree. I think it's a good sandwich. Something along the lines of a next day meatloaf sandwich that you reheat on the BBQ and add bacon and cheese. It's just a good sandwich. Cheers
Edit: I watched Elite BBQ Smokers Crack Burger and yes, that is going to be one tasty burger. Greg, make a version of that one. Cheers again.
I don’t like sour cream or ranch so this is a burger I’d avoid at all costs 😂
Good call.
Just so you know, the burger already packaged on foam trays, is reground chub, unless you watch the butcher grind it
Food yummy yummy food delicious ❤
The way I see it (and the way I do it), is if the toppings (bacon, cheese, seasonings, etc.) are mixed into the meat, the burger needs no additional toppings whatsoever, other than sauce.
Yeah, I agree. Not worth all the effort when you can just put everything on top of the burger. Thank you for the new sauce idea, by the way.
Thank you, for watching and the comment. Cheers!
I’m not quite sure I understand, were you going to add more salt?
No, I pointed out that others had added more salt, but the Ranch already has a ton of salt including MSG. No need for more salt.
@@BallisticBurgers sarcasm dude, sarcasm
Glad you did it too. But back to the regularly scheduled program, lol.
looking very trim Greg
Looks good
Thank you!
I have used the ranch on top as a seasoning, still prefer SPG. You convinced me to never try this lol! Great video!
I slept with your wife. Sorry I had to tell you here
LOL! Thanks for watching Rick!
You mentioned meatloaf, and I was thinking the "crack burger" might be good as a meatloaf!
Looks good, something different. Can you start doing sides with your videos. You could go crazy, million ideas out there. Keep up the good work brother!
I just got a really nice fryer, so I do plan on doing some cool sides. Not just fried stuff, however!
Greg, since you are doing internet fads, please try the Molly Burger from Tommy’s channel.
Gotta hand it to ya Greg, that's a damn good-looking burger. What sends it over the top is that "Crack Sauce"... 😋😋😋
The Wendy’s Bacon Mushroom Burger 🍔 they got going on is definitely a tasty burger 🍔
Hi Greg, it's Mike and I trust you and your good lady are well. Your last video giving us a great demo of Wendy's Mushroom Burger generated a lot of interesting comments from your loyal subscribers. With all the trouble of making these burgers, why fry them instead of smoking them? I always smoke my burgers with mesquite or apple wood.
I don't think smoking would work too well on these burgers. They need higher heat to sear them so they won't melt!
I agree about not mixing crap in with the beef, Greggy, but those LOOK amazing as only you could do it, maestro.
They weren't bad, just not worth making again. Thanks for watching!
I tried it a few weeks ago. It's absolutely not worth the hype. I didn't find it to be particularly special and would have greatly preferred a standard burger.
I'm in your camp 100%
Mixing spices into ground meat is called sausage.
Crack Sauce did sound gross, but those Burgers look Delicious! 😮😂
Gross! It was good! Thanks for watching!
Any time I see a recipe for something with the name "Crack" in it I just know it's going to be over hyped. I agree about putting nothing in the beef.
Yup! I agree with you 100%!
12:12 nice explosion of bacon.
12:39 Russian accent?
Crack Burger, a little bit of acid, and maybe some melted Gummies sauce. Oh Yea.
I am not on board with these "trendy" burgers that have been all over the Internet the past couple years. Some things mankind got right the first time. You're dope. Your knowledge supersedes your competitors. Work on that persona.
That's not a burger, that's meatloaf on a hamburger bun with hamburger fixings.
You did make a meatloaf.
American here. There are 0% votes for the best of anything.
dude, Ranch powder in a shaker? you Americans get all the best shit down there. that's like, 20 packets worth of Ranch powder in a shaker bottle. insane

Great not seeing smash burgers. This is a proper burger!
I found them too salty myself, and messy! Won't be making them again.
“Anti sticking together stuff” huh? Hmm, sounds like that fancy shmancy scientific type of thing. 😅
ur onions are burning and ur bacon gonna be burnt as well should of gotten a plate and jsut set it aside.
Stop labeling things "crack" whatever. Been played out for years lol. Not just you, everyone.
I didn't label this, someone else did. I thought I made it pretty clear that I was recreating a burger that went viral to see if it was any good.
@BallisticBurgers Ah, gotcha. I didn't see the vid, just getting tired of all this "crack" this and "crack" that. Its atrocious on Instagram.
If you are going to call it Crack better be good lost my life to the shit it that
not a bad attempt.
Thank you!
