I had seen the Kindlet on-line, manufacturers style video, now it's nice to see it in use " in the field" showing the input and output processes. Cool machine. Enjoy.
I've seen those videos as well, the 'in the field' content is fun to make and even with the stops and starts the production of the Kindlet sure beats swinging a hatchet...hahaha
According to Archie (Oak Farm Firewood--UK/London), the original "X" cutter blade design found on 'Fuel Wood' wood splitters and Kindlet kindling machines was created by Peter's father in the early 1990's. This is a brilliant design that I now believe is found on other manufacturers machines.
So far so good....I always enjoy trying different things when it comes to fine tuning workflows so I'm sure there will be changes made along the way. 👍
Neat set up Dan . We’ve had good luck with our yellow bag material we get from quadel industries . Cut it to length and it fits right over the wolf ridge bagging station . Them red bags sure don’t like being in the sun .
Dan, Suggestion: Try using black bags for your mini firewood. Usually, black colors block UV rays. White does nothing to block and in my telephone career, you never used anything white in the outside plant environment - even if it was sheltered. This is why anyone using white cable ties outside soon see them pop. So it might be worth a try to go to black bags if you can get them (and it could segment mini from other bagged wood).
Nice video Dan! While it is tying up the tractor, it’ll be interesting to see how much production you get per hour of tractor use. If we had the lengths closer to that 6 inch sweet spot, they wouldn’t have the tendency to flip around. But, it looks like it’s getting better even with the 5 inch lengths!
Morning Dan! There is a machine for everything eh? That is a pretty cool unit. And perfect for the Mini's. It should make things much easier for you. Have a good day out there!
Wait, hold up! You're not stacking that mini firewood in the tent to season it? This has got to be some kind of scientific study on a micro scale-aka “the Great Mini Wood Experiment”-to finally answer the age-old question: Does wood season faster when neatly stacked or just lazily piled into a heap? I mean, sure, one method looks like firewood Tetris, and the other like you're building a squirrel fort, but we need answers here!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers my friend 🍺🍺🍺 Enjoying the videos you share with your Woodhound family 🥰
Nice going Dan on that Machine. Leave you Tractor where it is and should be fine. You have it down on your Mini Firewood on how to Seperate it. The Left over Slash can be used in you Fire Pit if you Want. Should keep you Still Healing up, sore and Brusied, plus a now Large Cut on my Arm from the Saw Kicking Back. Can't seem to stay Well. Ron from the Woodyard in Duanesburg NY.
It looks like leaving the board in the kindlet to prevent twisting is the way to go. I also feel that your drying time in the greenhouse is going to be the next bottleneck. To speed that up, it might be an idea to put the wood in baskets or toads, create a secondary greenhous/windtunnel around them with plastic and force air through them with a boxfan (no outside air, just recirculate the preheated air from your greenhouse). That boxfan could probably run from a solar generator for quite some time.
The seasoning/drying might become a bottleneck if I start running green logs, these chunks were split a few months back so they've been pre-seasoning...lol. As long as I can stay somewhat ahead and maybe increase the capacity of what the greenhouse holds.
Looks like a great piece of equipment. I’d love to figure out how to keep those pieces from twisting and not getting split but even if you need to do some by hand, you’re still going to be way ahead.
Hi Dan As I Was Saying about When I Worked At Mrs Paul's Kitchen I Would Cut and Open Up the frozen Blocks of Fish and it Would go down a Cover Belt on Metal Rollers jig Saw Would Cut the fish in a Triangle 📐 and Smaller Pieces Maybe have a Cover Belt At the end of The Kindlet 200.and Circle The Belt Around you and have The little Boss Man Bag it 👍 I Would leave your Japa Tractor 🚜 right Where it's At you Should be Good 👍
It would work bagging it right off the Kindlet if the chunks going in were already seasoned, which some are, but otherwise if the splits need to season more I wouldn't be able to bag it. I might need to find some big baskets to put the splits in.
You could leave the Kindlet in the same orientation as it is now. You'd would just have to clear a path around the rear of the Shelter Logic so that you could place your totes with your rounds on the infeed side.
hi there you will figure it out .i keep alot of kindling in old milk crates ,the sun does not bother them , open sides and stack able. like all processers they only like a spisfac wood . best to all john
Seems like this machine is able to produce a mountain in minutes, however the rest of the process can’t handle that level of production. At least not at the moment. Looking forward to see how it evolves. Maybe you could make mountains offsite in one of Woodhound Senior’s barns.
@Back40Firewood Stop blaming the Japa!! Those pieces go thru just fine...It is the random end of log cut from the Stihl that plugs the whole system up! Just stop fighting the system,Shifty! #teamhusky
I'm unable to get the tractor with a tote back there at the moment...have a tree in the way, but will probably be taking it down soon to free up access.
Yes indeed...still have a few things to try as well like full rounds instead of the pre-split chunks. And then if that goes well I'd need to find some small logs...lol
How much does Joe (Ohio Wood Burner) charge for a full cord of firewood? ($600) How much does Chris (In The Woodyard) charge for a full cord of firewood? ($360) How much does Dan (Back40 Firewood) charge for a full cord of mini-firewood sold in small boxes: ($8596) -------------------------------- There are 720 cubic inches (CI) in a 10 x 12 x 6 inch box. There are 1728 CI in 1 cubic foot (CF). (12 x 12 x 12) There are 221,184 CI in 1 full cord. (1728 x 128). There are 307 mini firewood boxes in 1 full cord. (221,184 / 720) 307 boxes at $28 per box = $8596 for 1 full cord. (307 x $28) ---------------------- What conclusions can we come to from the above calculations? At this rate, you could make $85,960 for only processing 10 full cords of firewood. Does this mean that Dan is the smartest wood hound in the business?
Great to see you are getting ready for some production and looking forward to seeing it in action at the PB show.
You should set up the Kindlet 200 for production. It would bring the mini firewood factory to life!
Great little splitter!! Once you get your process set up, you'll be in full production!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day

Hey Dan. You got it I hope the market grows for ya . Thanks for sharing. Craig. Pa.
Looks like you got a good process started 👍 Looking forward to seeing how it evolves.
So far so good....I always enjoy trying different things when it comes to fine tuning workflows so I'm sure there will be changes made along the way. 👍
Nice one, Dan. Looks like a good setup.
Dan, Pretty Soon you will need an I dry, a building and a packaging line. Great video!!!!
What a cool machine! Definitely a time saver👍👍
Neat set up Dan . We’ve had good luck with our yellow bag material we get from quadel industries . Cut it to length and it fits right over the wolf ridge bagging station . Them red bags sure don’t like being in the sun .
I'll have to check that out, cuz yeah these red bags don't last in the greenhouse. Thanks.
I can see a Back40 mini wood factory coming in the future. Good job learning the new machine.
That would be pretty cool...remote controlled and a heated lazy boy recliner to kick back in as it runs...hahahaha
Over all the thing work pretty well . I mean every thing has it trouble spots . But that’s a nice unit .
Dan,

Thanks! The amount of splits produced far exceeds hours on the tractor! The tractor I don't think has even run a full hour yet....hahahaha
Nice machine!

Oh yes GP, there is a machine for everything, BUT is there a MAN to run the machine like there is here in the Back 40?!?! 🤣😆🤣
Dan,eventually you’ll have it all figured out or dialed in with your mini firewood shop 🤘😮😊❤
We shall see, I'm still trying to figure out regular firewood....hahaha...just kidding! But this machine makes the splitting quick and easy.
Wait, hold up! You're not stacking that mini firewood in the tent to season it? Enjoying the videos you share with your Woodhound family 🥰
These mini splits are special....they get piled first and then stacked in a box when they ship out...lol....the best of both worlds. Ha.

Good Morning Dan, It’s the real deal👏🏻Aint’t perks great😂👍🇺🇸
Good morning...is it cooling off down there yet? I might have to fire up the boiler next week up here! 😬 😆
Dan, mid 60’s here this morning, to warm yet to start our boiler👍🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing this video, Dan! I hadn't heard of the Kindlet 200, so that was fun to watch 👍
From what i seen on these machines if the trough is 6 inches thats the size your wood needs to be to optimally split..
Seems like you have it working best for the situation. My question is. How can it expand on any kind of larger scale?
This model is limited to 5.5" - 6.5" but the Kindlet Pro will do up to 11.5" size splits.
Is there a larger version for regular sized firewood? 🤔🤔🤔
The Kindlet Pro will do up to 11 1/2 inch length splits.
You have a lot of stuff
How soon before you come up with a dedicated power unit to run that thing and free up your tractor?
Bill
When Wolfe Ridge starts mounting Honda engines on them I might see about trying one of those, but for now using the tractor isn't too bad.
Looks like a great piece of equipment. I’d love to figure out how to keep those pieces from twisting and not getting split but even if you need to do some by hand, you’re still going to be way ahead.

Tarp The Tractor 👍
You could leave the Kindlet in the same orientation as it is now. You'd would just have to clear a path around the rear of the Shelter Logic so that you could place your totes with your rounds on the infeed side.
That is where there would be an issue...couple trees in the way back there, but...that could be fixed I guess....haha
Green money making machine right there
it's stopping because you presplit the rounds and you have too much gap at the splitter.
hi there you will figure it out .i keep alot of kindling in old milk crates ,the sun does not bother them , open sides and stack able. like all processers they only like a spisfac wood . best to all john
I've thought about that...WD30 actually sent me some info on larger rectangle ones. Might have to get a few.
@@Back40Firewood hi i got 12 of them 30 years ago and they still are fine ,
Looks good. I see a few on top turned sideways maybe if more was on the infeed side it wouldn’t twist. Be cool if they all got split. Peace
Seems like this machine is able to produce a mountain in minutes, however the rest of the process can’t handle that level of production. At least not at the moment. Looking forward to see how it evolves. Maybe you could make mountains offsite in one of Woodhound Senior’s barns.
Maybe add about 10 percent of the mini-mini splits for starter kindling for mini splits
Sweet unit…is there a cheaper market for the lesser desirable pieces? 🇺🇸👏🏻
I was thinking of finding that out. It all burns so perhaps there is.
I dunno, Dan. Have you tried the toilet paper blower test on the loose piles in the greenhouse? Would have thought they’d dry faster if stacked…
lol...well the mini firewood gets both. Piled in the greenhouse and then stacked in the box when it ships out. Ha.
👍
Do you need a solar powered fan in the greenhouse?
I would think a fan for air movement would really speed up your drying time
The best way to season your wood is to pile it up and let it dry no stacking required
See Chris
In the wood yard
In some instances yes...in others no...all depends on a couple factors like location, wood, wind, sun, etc.
1guy already said it I think you need bigger round in there and it would jam up less
Leave the tractor where it is add some hydraulic hose extensions
That could be an option as well. 👍
It is most likely the crooked Stihl cuts causing the issue. They only run Husky saws in the UK and dont have these issues!🤠
Hahahahaha....well all these were cut with the Japa and an Oregon bar & chain which seems to be on many Husky saws out there...hmmmm lol
@Back40Firewood Stop blaming the Japa!! Those pieces go thru just fine...It is the random end of log cut from the Stihl that plugs the whole system up! Just stop fighting the system,Shifty! #teamhusky
Put wood going into it where you ladder is . see if that works
I'm unable to get the tractor with a tote back there at the moment...have a tree in the way, but will probably be taking it down soon to free up access.
That is definitely going to stream line the mini firewood business.. a bit of a learning curve but I think the more you run it the easier it will be
Yes indeed...still have a few things to try as well like full rounds instead of the pre-split chunks. And then if that goes well I'd need to find some small logs...lol
I wouldn't use such premium wood for kindling wood lol
It just doesn't seem right to hear you say the word hobbyist followed by...nothing. 🙂
How much does Joe (Ohio Wood Burner) charge for a full cord of firewood?
($600)
How much does Chris (In The Woodyard) charge for a full cord of firewood?
($360)
How much does Dan (Back40 Firewood) charge for a full cord of mini-firewood sold in small boxes:
($8596)
--------------------------------
There are 720 cubic inches (CI) in a 10 x 12 x 6 inch box.
There are 1728 CI in 1 cubic foot (CF). (12 x 12 x 12)
There are 221,184 CI in 1 full cord. (1728 x 128).
There are 307 mini firewood boxes in 1 full cord.
(221,184 / 720)
307 boxes at $28 per box = $8596 for 1 full cord.
(307 x $28)
----------------------
What conclusions can we come to from the above calculations?
At this rate, you could make $85,960 for only processing 10 full cords of firewood.
