I was told this I’ve is a little different sound from Grateful Dead. A little jazzier and catchy. This journey has been great.

Great reaction, Craig. Another excellent choice! The boys were really on fire! They just jelled, each instrument doing it’s part in a very articulate musical conversation. Keith really complimented Jerry and Phil well. Billy’s drumming was so intense during parts of that Jam. I really love the one-drummer Dead era so much. Much jazzier and the jams could really turn on a dime. Yeah, I love all Dead eras, but 72-74 is absolutely outstanding.
You finally played a live performance I attended. This is from a series of 5 shows that were supposed to be the last shows because the band had announced they were breaking up. I still have my ticket stamped "the last one". It turned out to be a hiatus and the band members took a year and a half to work on independent projects. Jerry worked on the Grateful Dead Movie which this is taken from. I think this number highlighted Phil Lesh's skills. His bass playing really moves the song in specific directions. Great stuff!
Spot on about Phil. A brilliant & unique player.
You can really hear the future of Blues for Allah when Phil gets going.
The Wall of Sound era. Saw them a number of times during that period and it was truly like 'the voice of god'. Had enough power to fill the entire Grand Canyon with sound.
One of the things I truly love about the Grateful Dead is how their sound/style evolved over the years (and sometimes from night to night). The Dead in 1991 sounded vastly different (but recognizable) than the Dead in 1971--even if they were playing the same songs!
The female singer is Donna Jean Godchaux (at the time she was married to the keyboard player Keith Godchaux).
Keep Truckin' On....
Thanks for the reaction. Glad you enjoyed and brought it to us.
Again, I enjoyed this. I wouldn't say that it blew me away, but I would definitely listen to this again again, when in the right mood.
Regards as always.

Yep that’s Donna! Her husband Keith Godchaux over on the keys. Controversially my favorite keyboard player from the Dead (:
Shouldn’t be a controversy at all! Keith was the man
team Keith all day
My favorite eyes is 10/19/74, PURE BLISS!!!
Jerry on his "Wolf" guitar. This is from "The Grateful Dead Movie", one of the best concert films ever made. BTW, the girl in the blue bikini top and sort of boxing herself is tripping really hard, and loving every second of it, along with most of the audience. Yes, Ms. Donna Jean Godcheaux was a singer with the band for most of the 70's, along with her husband Keith, who was the Piano player. In most later shows, this song was usually preceded by the song Estimated Prophet, and we Dead Heads called it Estimated/Eyes. There is also a version on The Dead's live album "Without A Net" that features a solo by Jazz Saxophonist Branford Marsalis, and it is killer.
the music of the dead is always welcoming. it brings you into it. you just dont listen. you are in the music.
The only shame about this version from the Grateful Dead movie is that they cut out the first jam after the first set of lyrics, which I think is the best of the 3 jams. If you are curious I would find an audio recording on archive of that first jam.
I agree. An odd choice to send for a reaction video
Thank's! The complete version of this performance lasts 18 minutes. I don't know in what part is cut
They cut out the 2nd jerry solo. What a shame
@@robertgrosek1124 They cut out the solo between the first and second verses.
Eyes changed with the seasons and the years. You have to listen to them all to really get it.
Dive into Dark Star. Columbus 11/31/71
Just a recommendation. You really need to pick a full Dead concert and sit through it even if it's off channel. I would recommend something in the 70s. The reason I say this is a Dead concert has a flow to it. It starts off with about 6 or 7 relatively short songs (4 or 5 minutes long) About 2/3rds of the way thru the first set they generally string a couple of songs together in a jam that lasts maybe 20 or 30 minutes. Then there is intermission and the second half will generally have 1 or 2 breaks and the rest is straight jamming Then generally a short encore. Thus your 2 and a half or 3 hour concert
Listen to Eyes of the World off of the Without a Net album. You will thank me later.
Peak Dead.
