Watched Airwolf all my kid life, believing that most of the rotor sounds were the actual thing. Then one day, I see a Bell 222 series flying for the first time in my life, years after the Airwolf series had ended and my first reaction was, "It sounds like a blasted Huey!" There it was in the sky, a beautiful helicopter with those massive blades 'slapping' the air exactly the same as the UH-1.
I can remember back in the mid 1980s as a child when I saw a Bell 222 for the first time at the age of 8 years old, the one I saw had the landing skids but still a great looking chopper😊❤👍
Robustly incorrect. The first helicopter to perform a loop was a sikorsky s52 piloted by Harold Thompson back in 1949, the bell 222 does not have the appropriate rotor system to perform aerobatic manouvers or tolerate negative g's. During the filming of airwolf ,which used the 222, some sequences were shown where the helicopter has gone near inverted and bell helicopter saw this, contacted the producers and they were quoted as saying " don't ever do that again...seriously DON'T DO IT!! " ..... you could loop a 222 but you'd only do it once
I do LOVE seeing a beautiful B222. Airwolf's paint job , though, with black and white bottom- made it look LONGER- leaner and meaner!! :) but I love them ALL.
I'm just a normal kid from Australia I've subscribed and hit the bell and liked the video, also aircraft lovers should watch it till the end, it's very convincing, nice vid!
Hello and thank you for the Bell 222, very nice camera, I like to know if this flight unit in France, pouver give you information on this bell 222 and 420. thank you for giving me such a friendly intelligence Bernard
Heres another example of a rotor blade spinning at multiple revolutions of that of the video camera taking the picture /watch?v=jrURKUg4I-I. The video camera is probably taking 45 frames a second and the rotor blades spinning 9 revolutions a second (540rpm). So the video camera is taking a picture when the rotor blades are in the identical position when it took the last picture
A UH-1 is a Bell. Bell is the company that made them. This model is the Bell 222. The "Huey" is the Bell UH-1 Iroquois. Huey is the unofficial name given to it. Just my two cents on this conversation but wanted everyone to know that they are both Bell Helicopters.
3:12 it seems like the rotor is slowed down deliberately to position it inline with the fuselage, but maybe I'm wrong? Does the pilot have some sort of rotor brake he can apply to position the rotor in a certain way, and presumably secure it against wind influence as well? Ha, did a bit of googling, and the concept of a rotor brake on helicopters does exist, I did not know that. I couldn't quickly find out if the 222 has one, but it sure looks like it does.
the 222 uses a Lycoming LTS101 engine and the huey uses a Lycoming T53-L-13B engine, it probably sounds the same because they both have the 2 bladed main rotor head
@RacerXGTO, you say a Bell sounds like a UH-1??? you must not of seen a UH-1, they have there own sound and a "Thumping" sound as they come in/by. I live in Pa, and the Nationall Guard use to have a few Hueys that fly over the house and you can hear them miles away because of the "thumping" sound. the 222's dont have that "thump" that is announcing their approach, they have a slight thump but nothing like the Hueys my friend...
From what I can find N34NR is based out of Las Vegas, so I don't think its a regular. Mercy Air used to fly their Bell 222 in somewhat regularly, but I haven't lived in San Diego for several years now and I could be wrong.
Sorry...not a 222UT , they have a teetering rotor. A loop would be a good way to lose the rotor head...something called "Mast Bumping" Actually you only get one bump. I flew UT's for years in EMS, very under powered with the LTS 101-650 engines. This one is a 1982 model.
Actually Jimmy this is not a 222UT it is a 222A model. The UT had skids. If you flew these you should know that. And there was a 222A model with a 680 four-blade composite bearingless rotor system that was able to do loops and other aerobatic maneuvers. It was N680L which has now been decommissioned, but you can google it and see pictures of it.
Theres nothing wrong with it. Its an optical illusion. Your eyes see roughly 60fps frames per second. Just like a film is really a series of pictures, your eyes work the same way & the brain compares the picture with the last picture taken, calculates the differences and tells you thats the movement. When something spins very fast, it can move quicker than the eye can take pictures. Iand has already spun full circle before the eye takes another picture, giving the illusion it has not moved.
The most beautiful airframe in the helicopter world!!! No wonder Airwolf was derived from its design.
Ahh man, I never can stop loving these 222's... Thnx for posting!
They made it look so much better in the series.
It's up there with the Spitfire and the F16. Absolutely gorgeous 😍

Lol like he couldn't press the button himself

Heleicopters with only two thick rotor blades have definitly a much cooler sound than those with many thinner.

Hmm......I still love the MD500 too though.
Naw nothing beats the sound of a Bell 420 starting up and at takeoff, the low rumble of the rotor blades chopping through the air is music to my ears
@@gandalfthegrey8236 I've never seen or heard of a Bell 420 before.
a work of art
The Bell 222 is the first to be able to perform a loop.
With those powerful turbines it made it possible.
There are many helicopters that can perform loops and rolls, even the huge Sikorsky CH-53 can do them.
Robustly incorrect. The first helicopter to perform a loop was a sikorsky s52 piloted by Harold Thompson back in 1949, the bell 222 does not have the appropriate rotor system to perform aerobatic manouvers or tolerate negative g's. "WHITE WOLF" all i can think of right now for some reason
Fucking stupid
It does look like a white air wolf doesn't it.
@@ojsefgHOW TF IS THAT STUPID🤡
Great video and camera work.
Excelente vídeo :) Obrigado por postar , legal :) Esse som & Bell é de + :) Yahoooooooo !!!!! :)
Beautiful bird. Nice video.
Bell needs to bring this helicopter back.
That's a great video!
Damn the Lady fired up quicker. Was a show I know with all the special effects. Who else fantasized about owning an Airwolf besides me?
Anyone else notice how smooth this landing was compared to String in Airwolf?
String did tactical landings

michael touse yeah, that right!!
Kinda like that, because my dad's a pilot
Only a Huey sounds like a Huey. Just ask any grunt who's ever waited in a field for one to come get him out of there.
@@sunsetarts Well the older Cobras also sounded like the Huey. The were much the same mechanically..The Cobra was developed from the Huey.
Esse Aí é gravado nos Estados Unidos
dont forget to raise the landing gear ding dong
Whats up with the tail rotor or is that normal?
Ari Fine that was my question too.
The tail rotor is fine. It is the cameras FPS, it's called rolling shutter effect.
Bell 222,s most certainly do thump hard, maybe not quite as hard as huey,222,s have flown over the house on air medical runs.

Snoopy the Airdog.
How old is this Bell 222 helicopter?
Shari Puckett>the Bell 222 helicopter is in its 40's😊❤👍
Bell should have upgraded this to a quiter 5 bladed setup
What do you think the 430 is? Except it is four blades not five!
Is this in San Diego or Los Angeles?
Montgomery Field (KMYF) in San Diego
Thank you sir. Do you know if it is still there?

Cory Coyle Fullerton, California. Orange County
Its in mexico & is for sale ;)
Question: why isn't the tail rotor spinning? I love helicopters don't know much about them.
The tail rotor spins faster than the main rotor and the tail rotor spins so fast that it looks like its not spinning even though it is
