Just watching this again, Glyn and not only is your careful assembly of this engine very impressive but as you were saying these engines are just so well engineered they're a pleasure to work on. Such an enjoyable video to watch. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks Peter, I'm glad it appears to work after all that 👍 I just want to recheck the valves as it's a little noisy I think but it spent enough time in bits and I'm enjoying riding it. All the best, Glyn
@@GlynOC Thanks Glyn. Yes I have the cam ready for the fitting this December when I do the 2nd year's service but I have to say that despite having worked on many British machines I'm quite wary of doing this on my Hunter. It was just so impressive to see you getting your Classic apart and back together. I can well understand that you now want to be out enjoying it. Well deserved 👍
Good morning Glyn. I have been sent in your direction by “The Norfolk Thunderbolt”. I must say, what a pleasant approach you have to your videos. A most enjoyable watch 👍
Cheers Bruce, looking forward to seeing it going, watching your vids is torture when I haven't got one 🫶 Hopefully some quick progress once those body parts and wheels come back🙏
Those "bit of a mock-up"s are often the most time-consuming episodes! When John Urmston was building his Currie Wot in "Airymouse", he routinely would call through to his Mrs., Susie, for a look, and the "Look Susie"'s became more and more frequent as the project advanced. Love the look, brilliant Glyn
Wow, great job young man. You are now on my favourite list. Glad I found you. Just fitted a new cam on my classic, not took it out yet. Great videos. Thanks Phil
Hi Glyn 😂Had to watch this again. 1st time I was a bit hypo and couldn't remember anything. Excellent video. I was a bit sceptical when you first said you would paint the engine, but that paint looks really robust and the finish is great. Please keep us up to date on how the paint holds up. Can think of quite a few applications. Looking forward to the next installment.😊
Thanks Tim, sorry you had to go through it twice! The paint seems to be getting harder and harder as it cures so I hope it's ok, it did say it was designed for this job and self-priming. The first jet washer it sees will tell the truth, though I will probably avoid that at all costs! I bought 3 cans but only used most of one, maybe I can use the rest on brackets, footrests and whatnot so it all matches 👍
Looked like a showroom exibt. It’s coming together very nicely Glyn.😊 I need to get Bumble booked in, at some point for the cam, and a few extras. But the weather according to the bbc weather app, is rain for next fortnight on/off. Look forward to your cam going in. Take it the Meteor is getting one too. Hopefully.😊
Thanks Mark, I'll do this one first and see what the difference is side by side and hopefully it'll be really obvious! Weather will be wet for a while I think, bugger
@@GlynOC going to Bathgate to pick up the seats on Wednesday, think I go in past garage and book bike in for cam and some extras. Next day trip be the Scottish motorcycle show on the 16th.
Nicely done Glyn, but painting Her Madge gloss black might cost you your knighthood! Looking forward to seeing you fit that cam. They're not cheap but as you said, the feedback is excellent. Richard
@@GlynOC by the way Glyn. Your videos have played a large part in me deciding to buy a Meteor 350. I've taken the plunge and bought a 2 year old, low mileage one. Can't wait to start fiddling with it. First job is to remove the catalytic converter. Just watched your video again to remind myself how 🙂
Excellent. I normally get put-off by 45 minute videos, when I am trying to catch up on my ever-growing backlog but never with your videos. I love that black paint and have a job where that would be ideal. What was it called and how many coats did you put on?
Thanks, that is tempting but when lacquer goes bad it's really bad and the corrosion creeps all up underneath and you've got to get it all off. I'll have to have a monk-like maintenance regime I think
Timing chain bolt half undone mate as stated in an earlier video by another viewer, I wonder if someone has been there already or was it sent out from the factory like it late one Friday afternoon 😄😄😄😄
Hello, yes I will. They're the same frame so will fit one way or another at least, you'd need the rear side frames from the Classic to go with the mudguard ideally to make it easy👍
It purported to be self priming but I don't think it would have hurt, we'll find out the first time a pressure washer ever goes near it 👍 I wonder what the factory finish is, it's very tough
Great job Glyn, it looks awesome. What's your background in bike restoration? Are you a trained mechanic, or have you just picked this stuff up along the way?
Just from a collection of bikes that always needed work in the far past but haven't really bothered with it much until after the pandemic, when I decided to cut back on stressful work and do some more things I enjoy like this ❤️ I did engineering at college but got into event production and design so stuck with that 👍
@@GlynOC You have a real knack for it. You’re so confident that it’s like you do it for a living. I’m really impressed and I can’t wait to see what this one turns out like.

Hi Glyn, Thanks for the great videos. Can I ask you a parts swap question? Have you tried to fit a meteor rear mudguard (fender!! ) onto the reborn? Does it fit ? Regards Mike N
Hi Michael, it would but you might need to add a bracket to the existing subframe or use a Meteor subframe, and maybe add the rack that you can buy to go over the pillion area, or add a Meteor Pillion seat and rider seat, there's almost no end to the permutations and you could almost turn it into a half Meteor/Classic 350. They're the same frame after all!
It is called Hycote engine enamel and no more expensive than regular quality paint so I don't think I'd want to risk anything less. It's done a great job so far, no chipping or flaking of the paing has happened, even on the fins where you might expect that to happen👍
