My Family is from Clarksburg WV and settled this area prior to the civil war. It is amazing to me to see your video, as you have asked good basic questions not seen on the internet about Harrison county. It is a beautiful place, and not renowned for culture, but as you have seen from the museum in Weston and the architecture of the Harrison county courthouse, from 1920-1960 it was a booming and creative city! Thank you for creating this video and visiting!
I was born and raised in Clarksburg, my first job was at Jackson mills when I was 16. My grandfather lived up the road about 10 minutes away. That coffee shop in Clarksburg used to be a pool room. They used to kick me out of there when I was 14, u had to be 16 to play pool. Lol I'm now 74 and live in SC , I still shoot pool and visit home every now and then. Love my wv and my people, it will always be home no matter where I live. I'll always be a hillbilly and proud of it. God bless u all and God bless WV
@Pekka Ollila no it is extremely exaggerated, in my opinion. Our people expect this to be Mayberry, and it is not. However, we do not have near the drug problem that some people seem to think we do. We do not have a well traveled population that understands how bad some places have it. They are a little bit sheltered.
@@pekkaollila8505 The population is quite small in West Virginia, so something like the drug problem can look much bigger than it is when looking at it per capita. West Virginia is a beautiful and unique place, don't miss out on seeing it.
I was born and raised in West Virginia and still live here. I live in Cabell County in a small rural unincorporated community called Ona, West Virginia just 20 minutes outside of Huntington. I have watched different videos of you exploring the different towns and loved watching them!
Loved the festival when I was at Salem in the early 80s. Good food and friendly atmosphere. Always a great start to the school year. Back then you could drive for miles and not see anything but country until you ran into the Meadowbrook mall or Clarksburg /Morgantown or Fairmont. Changed alot.
Many Italians emigrated to Clarksburg in the early 1900s, including my aunt with her husband and children and have remained there forever. Many went to work in the coal mines.
It's quite a contrast between Arizona and West Virginia, but both places have their charm. I love the Southwest as well. Should be some future videos coming from that part of the country.
Remember going there as a kid in the 1960's. Had a cousin who lived in the small village of Folsom. Always had a great time there. Good to see old Stonewall is still riding his horse.
My family is from Clarksburg my grandparents Larry and Elizabeth walls 💙 my mom and her siblings louella and James Moore and Eunice Sharon and Terry walls and I was born there in Dec 1968 my father was Carl Hodgson. I miss West Virginia
I've been to Clarksburg several times to visit friends. The Asylum and mill were great stops. The staff doing tours in the Asylum were A+. Also they do ghost tours in the fall and even night time trips around Halloween.
I grew up in Clarksburg and in middle school we would get "rewarded" with good behavior by getting to go on the Clarksburg historic walking tour and eat lunch at a park right by the Clarksburg fire dept. but I will say as someone from Clarksburg,, Stonewall Jackson might be a part of of our history but he truly is not a significant part of our history and I am not sure why he is so amplified. He doesnt represent what Clarksburg stands for or for the union history Clarksburg has. Clarksburg was the first place in WV to start a union base and it became extremely important during the civil war, which by far is more important than someone being born there and then being a traitor. It also represents us as a community and not just Clarksburg's but West Virginia's history of coming together and sticking up for one another in times of unjust. like the Coal Miners war that happened in WV. the pepperoni roll was also created by Italian immigrant coal miners wives because they did not always have a lot of time for lunch and needed something that could travel into the mines well but also be held with one hand and boom pepperoni roll was formed and would be a better statue in front of the court house lololol I feel like my comment seems negative but I do not mean it that way! just sharing Clarksburg's history from how I have been taught it. I loved this video and loved that you went and asked questions. Clarksburg, like a lot of Appalachia has a very intricate, long, deep history that is sometimes overlooked or misunderstood due to the hardships we face now. I hope everyone you met was friendly and you had the best time

I'm not trying to be mean, but is the drug problem really as bad as I've read here in 🇫🇮? I wish not.

Was born here wouldn’t recommend it
Why?
She just mentioned two places to eat.
I have been there once.
Lol there’s a huge dark side to Clark’s burg
It's turned to hell.
They left out the Extreme Racist History !
I dont like to talk about this subject. It is something I have experienced, even while making these videos.
@@exotictravelwithrain9504 tell me about it. My Dad Chuck Collins was born there in 1941 and in 1956 he was put on death row for dating a white woman.
