There's a UA-cam video of a guy who modified his overheating cannon. ("DIY Perks" IIRC.) It illustrates that the overheating is by design and designers have been so cheap to use a timer function instead of a thermal sensor. Irrespective of the real inside temperature, the camera shuts down because of overheating. The video shows the guy opening the camera and how an active CPU cooling enables the camera to record movies forever. This leads him to a very simple modification of the way heat inside the camera is dissipated to the camera's outside back, passively. From there on, with the camera case closed again, a simple fan and folded away display are enough to keep the camera recording. I guess in English environmental temperatures - it may not work in the tropics. Like the Z6 II review - you missed the importance of the photo/video button. It makes hybrid work so much easier. It isn't on the latest Sony and Canon cameras. I really think it needs mentioning.
On my A7 III I have custom video modes set on custom 1 and 2, right next to manual on the dial so I can change very quickly between the 3, manual photos, 4K and 120fps 1080p videos much quicker than my Z6 II. The Z6 II switch is fine but I prefer the stronger custom controls without EVER having to use a menu (especially Sony’s ha ha). Nikon don’t let me set anything I’d like to custom buttons only what they think that button should be and it’s means I end with buttons that are switched off. My A7 lets me change any button to anything. (Obviously this is just my use case and opinion, it’s just the fact the Nikon’s 2 modes limit me more than the Sonys 3)

This way you'll have all the resolution and details at the start of the process. It looks like NIkon can make those small RAWs the same way as video RAW - by line skipping or in some similar fashion. And I'm not sure that it can be done another way. This way some resolution is lost and therefore photos will be softer than Z6 files. Doesn't make much sense to me.
8:45 - about video sharpness. I don't shoot video, let alone raw, but read elsewhere that "raw" video from a Z camera might have different levels of sharpening applied depending on some profile setting. I had - naively - assumed that profile settings did not impact "raw" but in video there is no real native raw, apparently. Set to a "flat" or "neutral" profile, there was less sharpening and this was done in post by that writer.

Hi all, need help to decide between Z6 II and Z7 II for video and landscape. Read online that Z6 II 4k has a crop of 1.5x while Z7 II has a crop of 1.08x. However, the choice online seems to favour Z6 II for video work. This is something I am unable to understand why Z6 II is better for video. Please advise. Thanks.
That's not a solution of the problem and a terrible idea to begin with. Not a solution because the copying process would take a lot of processing power and potentially buffer capacity, depending on how it's implemented. Not a good idea because if the first write gets corrupted at any point in the process, the copy to the second card will also be corrupt. In other words a faulty primary card would cause a good secondary card to only contain bad files.

Photographer or videographers can definitely appreciate beautiful colors and reduction in post. Dual processors have a huge upside for firmware upgrade via SnapBridge vs need for computer. Rent both and I’m betting you will find the Z7 ii is every bit of the camera for 99% of users for less money and better glass. If you need 8k (be it limited for overheating) get the canon. Need 20 FPS, get the canon or Z6 ii gets pretty close
@@danharris2253 Converting Canon or Sony colours to Nikon colours takes literally one second in post, or zero if you apply the adjustment during import. Forget about "colour science" , it's nonsense. As far as dual processors go - whether you've got one or two isn't a big deal, the question is how powerful they are, and how efficient the software is. As it stands, Nikon would have to make huge improvements in firmware to match Canon and Sony. There's no reason to believe those two aren't going to improve through updates as well. Making the fact that Nikon is starting from behind into a positive is just a way of lying to yourself. Then there's the DxOMark scores - take a look at where the differences come from. Also take a look at the measurements that photons-to-photos got. There's virtually no difference in image quality between the Z7 II, the a7r IV and the R5, except for the Sony's higher resolution. I don't know why Nikon shooters have become the new Pentaxians. There's no reason to be so emotionally involved here. I'm a long time Nikon shooter, and still it's obvious that as of January 2021, the Z series cameras are noticeably lagging behind the competition from Sony and Canon. We can hope that Nikon leapfrogs them in the future, but to claim that they hold the pole position right now is simply, objectively false.
Any thoughts about the the color accuracy and exposure metering? I don't know if it was a bad copy but when I went from the D810 to the D850 I found it to be all over the place in terms of color and exposure. I think that if I have to fix images simply to put them in the approximate color and exposure range then the automatic functions become useless. the D850 was so bad that I had to return in. So now I'm considering what my next camera will be.
Is there a lab comparison for dynamic range between the Z7 II and other competing cameras? Every UA-cam channel that uses a Nikon camera always pushes that ISO 64 thing a lot. But is there really a noticeable difference between this and some other 45-ish megapixel camera at ISO 100?
It does have customisable buttons but it bugs me so much that Nikon limit me to what they think that custom button should be used for. My Sony lets me set any function to any custom button. I end up with custom buttons that do nothing on my Z6 and D500 because what they let me use the button for doesn’t make sense to me. Like the centre joystick button used to be my secondary AF on the D500 but now I can’t do that on the Z6 it’s not an option. Also I can have a grid overlay but not the rule of thirds!?!
I appreciate all your details gentlemen. Fine review with lots of great points of the features ofg the new Nikon Z7II, in a fairly brief review. As always, bravo! 👏 📸 🙏

Good review; just a note, subject tracking isn't the mode to use for sports and action - use Auto Area AF, Wide, and Dynamic depending on the situation.
That does not make any sense. Not only is shooting moving subjects the entire and only purpose of the subject tracking mode, having it be unusable for those purposes is also a step back from 3D tracking in Nikon's four year old DSLRs. Of course the *tracking* mode is meant to *track* moving subjects - the implementation is just a failure.
I think, Nikon is going the right direction. It’s easy to say, just add this and that and than higher the price. I really think, that there’s a need for normal priced bodies. And this is also not cheap, it’s just a bit more affordable. When I think back, they asked 2000€ for my first Sony A7R, the RIII was 3200€ and an A7RIV started at 4000€, but I don’t see the prices for jobs rising that fast. For an Canon R5 they want 4500€, what a crazy amount of money, just for a camera with 45mpix. I think, Nikon shooters will be happy to pay „just“ 3300€ instead of 4500€.
this is often overlooked. especially now, when there are really nearly no jobs for photographers. at the moment it is more likely amateurs buy theses and then the price might be less important if you make your money with something else.
Finally, weather is cold enough so canon R6 doesn't overheat

I wish it would occur to one of the camera manufacturers that is using dual card slots that they could use the faster card to clear the buffer and then back up the slower card from the faster card afterward so to minimize the time when the user cannot shoot again.
I'm already subscribed, but I want a special with Jordan crying on the floor while Chris yells at home Nikon in Japanese.
subbed for the tarkovsky shoutout, you are a true hero of the revolution chris

These guys shouldn’t be allowed to see the spec sheet before reviewing these cameras.
The Nikon cameras have superior optics in front of the EVF, which makes a bigger difference than pixel count.
They also miss the fact that the refresh rate on Sony EVFs drop significantly when the shutter is half pressed, while this doesn’t happen on the Nikon’s.
I own the Z7ii and love it but the reason I love this camera are the lenses. Best lenses I have owned?
One realy important feature that nobody talks about, are the medium raw images sharp? Unlike on the d850 where my medium and low raw files are terrible in sharpness :( did the fixed that on the z7 II ?
Its important to me because i shoot alot of weddings and graduates, medum raw files whold greatly improve my workflow speed
@@aaloaalo If you don't need high res camera, why don't you use Z6ii? It has better low light AF and faster bursts...
@@СергейМогутов-ъ4д because i love this sensos and what it comes out of it, im not as much pleased with the 24 mp sensors from nikon as with this one, also doing studio and macro work, where i love my extra megapixels
@@aaloaalo It's IMO makes more sense just to down-sample them in post.
I've been waiting for this review.... Thank you
I would like to see a video on the Nikon d3000
8:45 - about video sharpness. I don't shoot video, let alone raw, but read elsewhere that "raw" video from a Z camera might have different levels of sharpening applied depending on some profile setting. I had - naively - assumed that profile settings did not impact "raw" but in video there is no real native raw, apparently. Set to a "flat" or "neutral" profile, there was less sharpening and this was done in post by that writer.
If I could subscribe to your channel 10000 times I would. You review cameras that no other camera reviewers will.
Hopefully y'all get to 300k and our vote would be the D7000. I loved my D7000 but not for video😂. Good luck.
Nikon D300s!
Waiting for mine in Michigan. Moving up from the D750! Shoot mostly landscapes and wildlife.
In a imperfect world you photographers and reviews continue to want the perfect camera. Humans complain too much and everything. I bet this camera is just what you need
One realy important feature that nobody talks about, are the medium raw images sharp? Unlike on the d850 where my medium and low raw files are terrible in sharpness :( did the fixed that on the z7 II ?
Still rocking a D750? I still use a d5200 or a d300s. (Way past due to upgrade). Trying to decide between z6ii and z7ii. Thank you for posting!
That’s good that you put the videos in the top of your webpages
I feel like there's got to be a 60Mp Z8 coming, with the new Sony sensor in it, but when?
Good to see Nikon catching up. They now have a very solid system for landscape photography.
How about the Canon 1d4, the first Canon with video capabilities iirc?
Happy New Year Chris and Jordan
Just an amazing camera. It wasn't marketed for speed, but we know when the Z7 III comes out, they'll put that Expeed 7 in it. Game changer when Mark III is coming
How is the banding? If you push the exposure by 5 or more stops will you get the lines?
Or is the banding gone no matter what you do?
Why are you pushing 5 stops for?
Shooting a Nikon review using a Canon. But always good to see a great review.
Great review. The consummate photography and videography reviewers on the internet today.
Thanks.
How about having Jordan shoot on real VHS?
Yes. Anything tape based. Think of the dynamic range 😁
@@thegreatestlight1 oh how much I would love to see that
Thank you. For the info. Thinking of getting 7ii or z8
Why can’t the companies develop software so the fast card captures them as shot and slowly copies the other card over time?
That's not a solution of the problem and a terrible idea to begin with. Not a solution because the copying process would take a lot of processing power and potentially buffer capacity, depending on how it's implemented. Not a good idea because if the first write gets corrupted at any point in the process, the copy to the second card will also be corrupt. In other words a faulty primary card would cause a good secondary card to only contain bad files.
@@youknowwho9247 why do you have to be so mean? I’m just asking a question. You should think about your life’s choices and think about how Christ can make more meaning in your life.

I switched from my D750 to a Z6 last month and honestly if you wanted to do sports and serious tracking I still feel like dslrs are king.
In the Nikon world, yes. The R5/6 and a9 are another story.
@@youknowwho9247 ,go home canon troll.
@@planetfun85 That's funny. I own a D850, D500 and tons of glass to go with them. If I was a Canon shooter I wouldn't give a rats behind about Nikon's consistent failure to deliver on the mirrorless front.
Your videos are just getting better all the time! Thank you again for showing off the Nikon Z7II. With the Z9 now coming, what a wait for the D850 replacement. Could it be the second wonder camera announced by Nikon?
Looking forward to seeing the comparison video. You guys always have perfect timing 😁
i want jordan to shoot an episode on the fs700.
Hi. Any important firmware updates 2023?
Another awesome video you two....
Glorious scenes on this shoot!
I have the D850 and D810. I only shoot maternity portraits on location and studio with OCF. No video, but I am thinking about buying the Z7II Monday. Please let me know in your opinion should I upgrade to the Z7II regarding mirrorless. I am eager to see responses but to use a EVF I think would help me outdoors especially with HSS and OCF. Thanks in advance.
1:40 Great Stalker plug! Here here! And then of course: Andrei Rublev...
I want to see Jordan shoot on the Panasonic GH2 so I can lie to myself that I’m using up-to-date technology. 😂
I would love to see my favorite camera being used too
The gh2 will always be up-to-date to me
Great review! When you tilted the camera low to the ground and vertical orientation you mentioned that the screen was black. Could the screen be pulled out and still shoot vertically with the camera tilted? OR does the screen automatically go black when it's turned on it's side?
The last line helped push the decision as I am that old guy with the D750 needing to replace it lol
Its always like "Welcome back DPReviewvevevers". xD
I'm not the only that finds that a bit awkward! 😆
4k 60p released?? is it for z7 II only or for z6 II as well?
Winter is the only time of the year you can use the R6 safely ♨️
It's funny cause it's true
Great video dude, But was Gloves do you use? Cheers G
Hey,
Thx for the awesome video! Really like your reviews and your style of doing it!
What's about the autofocus compared to the Z6ii? Is it as fast as the Z6ii? Or are they at the same level now?
Regards
Stefan
Does its photo tracking work well with a subject in an uncluttered scene? (plane in the sky)
Does the AF fall on its face again during raw video?
where is the review on dpreview?
The lower native ISO sos very important.
Great detailed review! How effective is modifying the AF Tune option for how tenaciously it tracks a subject (stickiness during obstructions, etc. I guess?)? On the Z7i this is under the first batch of AF settings, but I haven't played with it. It's set to 3/5 by default for slow to fast, so there seem to be some room for flexibility.
Great camera and review but I am still not switching from my D850!
I’m never giving up my D850!
Lots of people are selling their D850s after trying a Z, so it's a good time to pick up a used one.
@@onthemoverealestatephotogr9655
If you have a D850 you don't need the Z7 anyway I guess.
@@mrsusan893 for sure. I think a lot of people are too concerned with having the latest and greatest instead of actually getting out there to take photos...
really wish you said a little more about video on this. does it have just as bad of line skipping as the original z7? how does the 4k 24p 8bit internal compare to the original? how does the 4k 24p 10 bit and raw external compare to the original? so many questions left unanswered.
I got it- A Ricoh GR III. I remember how much he raved about it in the review!!!
Chris: "Now Jordan will talk about the video,"
Jordan: "No, I'm good!"

Question. I was amazed at the detail pulled into the raw files from the shadows in the two samples shown. Which program do you use? Do I need Lightroom/Photoshop, or could it be done to the same level of detail with Photoshop Elements 2022?
In terms of EVF, I found that the one in the Z6 (and therefore the Z6II, Z7 and Z7II) was the nicest I have used, regardless of the pixel count. It is just nicer to the eye.
Depends on what else you've used. It's certainly not as nice as the one in the Panasonics and the R5.
@@youknowwho9247 I've used Panasonics but never an R5. It is possible that one is better, but then again it is significantly more expensive.
@@praetorian65 It is, but it's also a much better camera overall than the Z7 II. Whether an individual photographer needs the advantages like faster shooting, better af, better IBIS and so on is another matter of course. Someone who's purely a landscape shooter would probably prefer the Nikon.
freeze at 37 seconds. All you need to see. ua-cam.com/video/EG9FYeOay-Q/v-deo.html Nikon colors destroy the canon and Sony right out of the camera. Photographer or videographers can definitely appreciate beautiful colors and reduction in post. Dual processors have a huge upside for firmware upgrade via SnapBridge vs need for computer. DxoMark scored the Canon R5 sensor at 95 and the Z7 at 99. I’ll take that over EVF and front facing screen all day long.
Good ol Canmore! I spent my middle school and highschool there!
One amazing thing , ISO performance on the Z7ii …. IS FANTASTIC!!!!!
Since when did eye AF become somehow the primary af mode to use? Smdh
Yea, I ask the same thing! Maybe it’s a topic on UA-cam but not in the real world?
The Stalker film. What a weird, but brilliant film it is! Although I'll be honest, I only knew it existed because of the STALKER games. haha
Check Andrei Rublev movie also
I love the Stalker games series! I played them specifically because of the movie. Either way we both ended up getting to enjoy both!
Hope Z7 III has a flip LCD better for self photo taking, brfore switch to other brand.
Is it a good choice for beginners? especially for the product, landscape, and bird photography.
Jordan's wearing a Stillwater, Oklahoma t-shirt. Did he go to OSU?
No, just a big Almost Famous fan.
I realllly wish each episode was shot on the camera that they are reviewing... I know its not always possible, But can still wish.
Thank you for showing me one of the greatest movies ever made. I watched Stalker today.
I appreciate all your details gentlemen. Fine review with lots of great points of the features ofg the new Nikon Z7II, in a fairly brief review. As always, bravo! 👏 📸 🙏
Can you review the new Viltrox 85mm f1.8 for the Z-mount?

How does the Z7II compare to the D850?
fingers crossed you can get the 300k subscribers. Camera I would suggest for shooting. Go with the first, the original, the Nikon D90. The first DSLR with video capabilities. Just watching Jordon crying would be worth the watch.
Beautiful episode.
What camera was this video shot on?
