  • Tripod or Bipod? Or Both?
    As mountain hunters, we are comfortable and familiar with using bipods for shooting and tripods for glassing. As more and more hunters learn about the benefits of using a tripod as a shooting platform, the question arises as to whether the bipod still has a place in the pack.
    In this video, I speak to some of the advantages of each tool and whether you will find a bipod in my pack next season.
    Head to soar.reallyrig... to learn more about the tripods I use.

    I love your videos mate but could you turn the music down? I know that makes me sound really old but it was a bit too much in this one.

      Thanks for the feedback. These are all edited to fit television standards before we export them to YT. I’ll let our editor know that you found this one a bit loud. It’s not an easy job getting those levels dialled!

      Actually, this was of course not on TV. I'll give him the gears for the levels!

    Great video but just personal preference I think you need to turn the music down because it’s distracting from what you are saying more than it is adding

    Nice info... why the loud music while you are speaking? Makes it annoying

    I've packed a LQ-284C Leofoto tripod the last 2 years and left my bipod behind about half the time. I find more game using my binos on it and have made better shots off it that would have been impossible without. Tripods all the way!

      It's one of those things that you need to try to understand just how effective the tripod can be!

      Ha! Sometimes the hard way is best, but a bit of information like this let's you learn other lessons when you're out there.

    Both, but it depends. I put a Spartan Davros head on my tripod last year to make my optics and rifles compatible and I like all the options. I usually carry my Spartan bipod with me because it featherweight and I have my Vortex glass and tripod so I can switch over if I decide to make a sit. I hunt in sagebrush country 85% of the time so making a stable shot means using sticks or a tripod. Laying on top of a sagebrush is doable but not fun…

      When you have a superlight bipod, there's limited downside to brining it, but the tripod is a great choice in so many situations.

    Do you pack a dedicated tripod for shooting or do you use the tripod you would use for your spotter? Using the tripod for the spotter means I won't be able to film the kill shot. Packing an extra tripod means extra weight, although I could eliminate the bipod. Still more weight.

    • @GregMcHalesWildYukon
      @GregMcHalesWildYukon  5 місяців тому

      If you want to film, yes, you would need two tripods. You could figure out a camera on your rifle scope, but my camera team carries a dedicated tripod for video.

    Iv tryed the tri pod method but mainly for brush country 0-350 yard type stuff for anything further I go prone

  • @williamchristy3063
    @williamchristy3063 3 місяці тому

    9.9 times out of ten, I need to get a standing shot to shoot over the tick brush. A tripod gives me the accuracy I can only get in a prone position out to 400 yards.

      Hey buddy, I am using the Ascend 14 with the Anvil 30 for mountain hunting, and the Ultralight with the BH-40 for moose, bison.

    Hi Greg thanks for another great video ! I have a question for you about your sight in of your rifle . Do you use sand bags to sight in ? And does your point of impact change when shooting from your tripod setup compared to when you first sight in your rifle ? Thank you very much !

    • @GregMcHalesWildYukon
      @GregMcHalesWildYukon  2 роки тому

      Hey Bryce, I use a Caldwell shooting rest to sight in my rifles. The point of impact is the same. The tripod is crazy stable, so it's not going to change anything compared to sandbags or the Caldwell, assuming you are doing everything properly and consistently with each tool.
