Glenn Miller knows he has an extremely low and rare voice, but he’s very humble about it. I really admire that... that said, I will forever be jealous of that speaking voice! Man oh man, imagine just speaking at a low B or C just naturally without pushing... that’s not even low for him lol that’s COMFORTABLE. Absolutely mind blowing
I know right people make jokes about how Basses want to be Tenors. But me, as a high Tenor 1 in my ch, I would love to be a Basso Profundo or Oktavist for a day just to see what it's like
Paul CO - I completely agree, although I am 16 I hate it when kids do that. Especially if there’s no evidence of the actual range. I can’t even tell you how many times there was fry or just the worst tone possible behind even a C2 lol. Glenn surely is one of the most professional basses out there, on top of being one of the lowest out there lol. Huge fan of his
Sweet Jesus! Glenn Miller's speaking voice is absurdly powerful and deep! People make a lot of jokes about Tay Zonday hitting puberty 47 times or so, but this man beat puberty to a pulp. Even puberty's mother couldn't recognize it. Wow, he probably still kicks puberty's ass in his spare time.
Glenn's voice is such a treat for the ears. Love it! Gives me immense pleasure to listen to his speaking voice and low notes. And absolutely no homo. :D I'm as straight as they come, and a bass(operatic range) my self. Although Glenn always makes me feel like a tenor. His is a spectacular instrument. Clear, strong, super low, accurate and massive! And perfectly mastered, unforced middle and high range technique. Making his voice a very long instrument in musically useful, beautiful notes. Watched this clip about 50 times(only the interview part) just by googling it back before k barber put it here on youtube. Goosebups everytime, and a need to listen to it "one more time". If only he had the time to do voice overs as well. Announcements, commercials, trailers. Would raise the bar for that trade quite a bit! :D Earl Mann is the best in the business I've heard so far. But he's a lot higher voice. More like a normal bass with just a very soft, deep and reliable fry-range. Maybe as Glenn gets old and the voice loses power an overtones we'll hear him rumbling the subwoofers in the movie trailers with unprecedented lowness in the modal range and insane subcontra fry rumble.
ajwolf We're getting ready to release a recording of these concerts. He's pretty amazing. Worth the listen! Take the time: www.kickstarter.com/projects/193050678/music-of-russia-featuring-basso-profundo-glenn-mil
Anssi Susilahti - Glenn is not a fryer... every last note within his speaking voice was clear and projected as if he weren’t speaking at a B1-A1. If anything his voice will end up at a G1 in terms of speaking if not even lower and god knows what will happen to that singing voice. He might end up with a solid E1 later on. Which would be absolutely mind blowing. I hope he takes good care of that voice, it’d be such a shame if he did any damage to it
Except Pavel Myakotin is like a high bass or a bass-baritone, his modal voice is normal for a bass, nothing exceptional. However he has a masterful control of subharmonics.
***** ME(WE) TOO!! Check out the recording of the performance, which features Glenn (singing things most of the Russian Profundos can't), and 2 other Octavists as well. (Greg Golliet, Don Neptun). www.kickstarter.com/projects/193050678/music-of-russia-featuring-basso-profundo-glenn-mil
Jaroslaw Krywonos But that's true. He's the only one that performed Chesnokov with original ending. No Russian basso profondo ever did this. For example Vladimir Miller had to sing the ending with Bb1 instead of G1 because he couldn't sing it like in original.
Yes, definitely! For instance, he performed Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil with the University of Utah Singers in a concert that's on UA-cam. See here, the fifth movement of the work, where at the very end Miller descends the scale to the famous low Bb1. /watch?v=S0MZ8AjpzvM
There's a new recording of the All-Night Vigil that includes 7 proper oktavists (G. Miller among them, IIRC). Very well-recorded, though I confess, the decrescendo is so much that the 5th movement descent needs cranking on the volume knob......now I'd really love if there were higher-fidelity recordings of Zlatopolsky.
A new recording of these concerts is being released! It is well worth your time to take a listen (we hope!). Shows the solid G (from both Glenn, and two others). www.kickstarter.com/projects/193050678/music-of-russia-featuring-basso-profundo-glenn-mil
Nice, they are doing the same thing Chanticleer was doing 20 years a go. but sounds like they need a bit more polishing. here's Chanticleer singing somebody to love by Queen: Somebody to Love - Freddy Mercury (arr. Vince Peterson)

He must be among the top three in the world. Also he doesn't brag about his range on youtube, which is a plus.

Glenn Miller is kinda like the American version of pavel myakotin. Both have such powerful low notes

I think that Glenn Miller is the most impressive bass singer of all time.

singing things most of the Russian Profundos can't?? try the other slavs... but then again Glenn is a true oktavist

Matthew Dockray Not many tho can sing this note with such power, resonance and projection.
@Steven Criscione He wasn't alive...
My Friend Bowzer Is a Basso Profondo Singer
The answer is a resounding yes. There's no doubt about it.
Just curious, does anyone know Chris mccaffertys voice type?
Hi, Matt. Most consider me a Heldentenor. Think the high version of Glenn. LOL
Thanks for asking! Chris
