  • On our first day in Belgium, we embarked on a captivating journey through the heart of Belgium town.
    Grand Place
    Our first stop, just a stone's throw from our lunch spot, was the magnificent Grand Place. This stunning square, dating back to the 15th century, is adorned with ornate facades that are nothing short of breathtaking. The Grand Palace, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, presides over this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's a sight to behold.
    Brussels Town Hall
    Right next door, you'll find the Brussels Town Hall. Stepping into its rectangular interior courtyard is like stepping back in time. Its gothic design showcases the rich history of civil architecture in Belgium, making it a true marvel. The building has borne witness to countless historic events, making it a symbol of the city's enduring importance.
    Parc du Cinquantenaire
    Just a short distance away, we find ourselves in Parc du Cinquantenaire, or Cinquantenaire Park. This magnificent park offers a peaceful escape amidst the urban hustle and bustle. Cinquantenaire Park's name means "Park of the Fiftieth Anniversary" and was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence in the late 19th century. Its grand entrance arches and stunning gardens are a testament to this historical significance.
    The park's three monumental archways, designed in the neoclassical style, serve as a majestic entrance to the park and house museums that display Belgian art, history, and culture. There are also some street performances at the are there to entertain the pedestrian too
    Parc de Bruxelles
    This park is not only a place of natural beauty but also a testament to Belgium's historical significance. It was created during the French occupation of Brussels in the late 18th century and has since evolved into a beloved public space. One of the park's most iconic features is its stunning fountains and statues. The central fountain, adorned with sculptures, stands as a focal point and a perfect spot for visitors to gather and enjoy the refreshing ambiance.
    Église Notre-Dame de Bon Secours
    Our exploration of Belgium's wonders continued, and as the sun began to set, we found ourselves at the beautiful Église Notre-Dame de Bon Secours or the Church of Our Lady of Good Help, is a serene sanctuary with a history that dates back to the 13th century.
    Cathedral Saints-Michel et Gudule-Bruxelles
    While making our way towards the Palais de Bruxelles, we couldn't resist a visit to the Cathedral Saints-Michel et Gudule-Bruxelles. This awe-inspiring church stands as a testament to Belgium's religious heritage, with its stunning architecture and rich history.
    Brussels Park
    As we approached the Brussels Park, we stumbled upon an unexpected delight. There, we encountered "Le Chat deambule," a creation by Belgian illustrator Philippe Geluck. This charming cat, adorned in a suit, has been the subject of cartoons addressing contemporary global issues.
    Palais de Bruxelles Palace
    Our journey took us to the Palais de Bruxelles Palace, but alas, it was closed for the day. Yet, even from the outside, its grandeur was evident, offering a glimpse into Belgium's regal history.
    Palais de Justice
    Our curiosity then led us to the Palais de Justice. This imposing structure is a true testament to Belgium's commitment to justice. With its striking architecture and commanding presence, it's a must-see landmark. The Palais de Justice's exterior is a breathtaking testament to the opulence and grandiosity of the 19th-century architectural style.
    As our first day in Belgium drew to a close, we embarked on the leisurely walk back to our accommodation, reflecting on the remarkable places we had explored. Belgium's rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture had left an indelible mark, and there was so much more to discover in the days ahead.
