“The Unreal and Impossible Geometry Chamber”
By maxdog800
Portal 2
So it would appear we have stumbled upon another chamber specifically designed to mess with your mind.
I guess the title should of been a bit of a hint right?
Anyway, this chamber totally succeeds in the art of confusion, at the same time as making it extremely easy to loose one’s cubes.
This video is not intended for children.
If you would like to submit a Test chamber for me to try and solve, please follow this link:

Thank you for joining me as I test my way through the infinite number of community made testing scenarios available for Portal 2 through the Steam Workshop all thanks to the Perpetual Testing Initiative.
In (implied) conjunction with Aperture Laboratories, further testing is to be carried out in perpetuity
SPOILER WARNING:
I’m Going to complete it!
P.S.
I am aware of the legitimacy regarding the cake.

Watching this feels like watching one of those crappy mobile game ads that say "ONLY 0.0000001 OF PEOPLE CAN COMPLETE THIS"
lol Thank you for watching however much you could tolerate ;)
He'd get lost in a paper bag
This level just destroyed his brain. This takes a looong time...
lol yeah this one really did, i just couldn't comprehend it. 😆
Thank you for watching
@@ngeruma it might be the same for me
Thanks for playing my level! Glad you liked it! I see there are some visual bugs I got to fix!
Hi thank you for watching.
I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. Also thank you for making test chambers.
very cool chamber even if it was a total mindf*ck😆
How did you make that
I'm not a map maker myself but I believe it's to do with the "world portal" in hammer editor. It's the thing that sort of defines where the player is in the map space. If you use no clip in a portal map you'll notice things like the space where the lift is, isn't actually connected to the rest of the map.
I would reply to @Camerin Chin 's comment on here if you'd like to know more about how they did it.
Thank you for watching, hope you enjoyed it. :)
@@ngeruma Pretty complicated for me but thanks for responding
Was this painful for you?
For those who whant to know how it works
Its basicly static portals without any effect. Sadly the entity used for it is only available in the portal 2's sourcebranch. Its used by default for the editor puzzles so that entrance and exit elevators can be linked to the generated levels after compiling
I know from noclipping for screen shots that each of the spaces including the elevator rooms exist individually, so does that mean it's using the same thing that makes you pass through from the entrance elevator space to the actual chamber? Just without any sort of doorway model?
@@ngeruma yes indeed. In these levels the creator creates basicly multiple rooms on different locations and connect them with these 'portals'. If it merges well its a seamless transition.
If you want more information heres a link to the documentation:
developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Linked_portal_door
What exactly do you mean "...only available in the portal 2's sourcebranch."? It is available to ALL versions of Portal 2 as it was used extensively throughout the game. It was used for the elevators and for the hole in the ceiling of a "test chamber" you find while wandering around in the BTS area of aperture. The room you hop down into right before the confetti drops.
Likely referring to the Portal 2 branch of the source engine
world portals

Me, 13: Oh no! Anyway...
Hey dude, thank you for watching :)
Me 12: Oh no! Anyway...
i am literally dying with this dude's incapability to understand world portals lol
Thanks for watching, played many maps that play with the world portal since and they're some of my favourite now :)
@@ngeruma i love worldportals, they mess with your brain and are surprisingly easy to make
Then i highly recommend you check out maps and puzzles by Skyferret, he does some incredible work with them and makes some seriously fun maps out of the confusion they can cause :)
@@ngeruma I played a couple of theirs, but I ought to play more.
I am tempted to create my own non-euclidean geometry map.
*_With terrible execution and unreliable solutions._*
This was the first map that used the non-euclidean thing as such big part of the puzzle.
I'd played one before i think, but it was more of a gimmick than a puzzle.
So this one really messed with my head trying to work it out.
This video actually keeps getting views quite often compared to others, but i'm pretty sure it's because people are searching for portal made with the unreal engine. So they click this, get annoyed and dislike it.
I'd be more than happy to play any map you want to send to me, the non-euclidean/world portal thing is very cool. Would be fun to play with it some more.
Thank you for watching!
From the beginning it feels like you'd get lost in a paper bag
This was the first map i had ever seen that made use of the world portal mechanics to mess with the player like this,
maps like this are some of my favorite now, especially the bizarre ones :)
It's funny how something just a little bit different from all the 100 chambers ngeruma's played before is enough to make him forget how to think with portals! :D
This was the first chamber i ever played that that messed with the world portal mechanics this much and it really threw me as you can tell :)
Thank you for watching and commenting too
@@ngeruma I had fun watching. I like your content and I'll keep watching! Maybe I'll submit a few maps if I make any new ones that I'm proud of. :)
hey sorry for taking so long to reply, please feel free to send any maps you'd like :D and thank you, really please you enjoy the videos too
This is the first time I had to stop the video and go play the chamber myself before finishing your run through. I've made enough crazy laser chambers that the laser path was pretty clear from the beginning, but I needed a better sense of how the "layout" of the chamber worked so I could put it all together.
I just couldn't get the hang of the path changes as the dimension changed.
If you want to see something pretty interesting, have an explore of this chamber using noclip
Oh noclip is a good idea, I'll try that.
I sent it to my brother and he's having trouble with it. No idea why it seemed pretty straight forward to me unless building crazy laser chambers in the past really does make a difference.
I love these kind of illusions!
Very cool to experience but a headache to solve lol. I've got another weird one coming next week too.
Thank you for watching dude
"guys something is wrong with my test chamber" -- krzyhau
Thanks for watching :)
Non-Euclidean portal is insane
Maps that cleverly use world portal mechanics are now easily some of my favourite, i love how map makers can really mess with the player using it well.
Thank you for watching :)
you can't move lasers or walls, so you should carry your cubes around with you so you'll have them when you find the lasers
The non-euclidean game logic is FUN
This was the first map i ever played that really messed with the world portals like this, and as you could tell, it really threw me lol XD
Thanks for watching so many videos!
the most complicated thing since explaining the fnaf timeline
wait, fnaf has a timeline? i only ever played about 10minutes of the first one when it was new lol
Yeah these impossible geometry chambers are fun, but extremely tricky. The trick with them is you have to remember anytime you go through one of those world-portals, you are entering completely different space, even when it looks like the space is the same. This is how you can enter a doorway into a space that looks bigger than it should.
@CodeParade has done a video here: ua-cam.com/video/kEB11PQ9Eo8/v-deo.html
@SebastianLague has done a video here: ua-cam.com/video/cWpFZbjtSQg/v-deo.html
Note that neither of these are demonstrated using the source, valve, or hammer engine, which makes them good conceptual illustrations.
I had played one map not long before this that used the world portal mechanics, but this was the first map i had ever seen that really showed what could be done with it and how fun it could be to mess with the player like this.
I've played quite a few maps since and ones that make great use of world portals are now easily some of my favourites.
Thank you for watching, and sorry for the late reply, youtube put your comment into the held for review folder because of the links and i just spotted it now :)
Non-euclidian geometry, my favorite!
Had to look that one up. ...sort of makes sense.. I think? Thank you for watching as always dude 👍
i played a chamber just like this one that was a lot cooler sadly i forgot the name of it.
I think this was the first map i had played that messed the player around so much with the world portal mechanic/shenanigans lol, it really messed with my head at the time but now these are some of my favourite kind of maps.
There are some really amazing ones like this made by Skyferret, he does an amazing job combining it with clever puzzles and a huge amount of destruction in his maps. I totally recommend trying some of his out :)
Thank you for watching and for commenting.
@@ngeruma i remembered the name. it was unreal chamber 02
Oh cool, i'll have a search for it. thank you
It hurts so much to see you getting so confused and lost by things you should have figured out in a minute or two... I thought at the beginning that you were just pretending, but you wouldn't make so long video intentionally, since people normally don't have such long focus span to watch it whole.
You should have thought more about how the room and invisible portals in the chamber works and not try to solve it by randomly walking around hoping that will give you the solution by itself.
It's funny this video still keeps getting watched so often and it often pulls the dislikes even though it's almost 2 years old now.
This was the first time i had ever played a map that played with/exploited the world portal mechanic in this way, so it was a total shock at the time as i had no idea this was even possible.
I'm a big fan of these kind of maps now and have gotten a lot better at figuring out their tricks, but i'm the first to admit i'm no expert at portal and i certainly don't make "solution" videos :)
This one actually started my love of the "weird" side of Portal and seeing how creative and bizarre the portal community can get.
Thanks for watching dude! :)
great video ngeruma
you deserve a lot more subs
Thank you dude
Btw it only changes when you go through it
Yeah this was a shock at first but i've played a fair few maps that do world portal shenanigans like this since this one.
I think this was the 2nd map i had ever seen that did this kind of thing and the first to really make you experience it like this.
Thank you for watching and for commenting :)
Are you wheatley from an alternate universe?
not legally allowed to talk about that
I’ve played the unreal chambers part 2
I have the Unreal Chambers series on my to-do list of maps for when i have more time to get back to doing the bigger series and mods like that.
This one isn't actually related to those as far as i know but a good introduction to aperture screwing with you using the world portal mechanics :)
Thanks for watching and for commenting too!
Almost to 20p subs keep it up
Really appreciate that dude, thank you
your incompetence is unbearable dude...
it's really funny how much hate this particular video attracts lol
Trippy ^_^
Yes something of a mind f**k😆 thank you for watching dude
Aww, too bad you couldn't cheat this time 😜 instead the map cheated on you 😄
ngeruma, the perfect guinea pig sent into a maze. In world portal maps it helps (as it does in life) to remember where you came from. So don't make your ways too long. And don't forget your portals to make them shorter 🙃You were close to the solution at around 8 minutes. Or at 11.
It bugs me that this one wall always glitches. Well, I played the map myself right before watching and it seems to be fixed now.
Believe it or not, but you don't get any extra hate from me. The episode hit my expectations 😄 No seriously, world portals aren't easy to handle if you don't know how.
Yeah after that first map encounter with the world portals, this one was such a massive leap in what could be done with them and how they could be used to really mess with the player like this.
Now bizarre world portal maps are easily some of my favourites :D
I had no problem with it the first time I encountered one.
Yes but you've got that thing
I know you have trouble with these sorts of things, but this is not that complicated.
Very easy to say in hindsight, but if this was the first time you had ever experienced a map that can do this then it would take you a bit to understand it too.
@@ngeruma Nope. The first time I played a map like this, I figured it out in about 10 seconds.
As long as 10 whole seconds, you must of had a bad cold or something that day
i beat the level. good video
Hi, thank you for watching. this one took me way too long to get my head around at the time, first real encounter with a map that uses the world portal mechanic like this. if you want a laugh, check out the amount of comments giving me hate over it :D
@@ngeruma yeah I saw that. Didn't get why. It was enjoyable to watch you do it. And anyway, I figured out how to do it while watching you. I needed someone to "trial and error" the chamber before.
So in short, you got a sub a week ago
Thank you for subscribing! very much appreciated! and glad i was of help too :D
and they say Americans are dumb. ha
An awful lot of people do say that don't they.
:O
This is hard too watch.
Your comment is hard too read to ;)
That was so mutch easier you took a long time
Thank you for watching :)
