Interesting to see English QWERTY keyboards in service with the PLA. I can't imagine how tedious it must be to use since a Chinese language keyboard script had yet to be invented. Very cool to see
Absolutely, I heard it was tedious as hell. They did have some sort of package that allowed them to type and print in Chinese, but since it was the pre-GUI era they still had to use English to interact with the OS. Back in the days very few of them knew any English at all, so both users and programmers had to memorize every command not as whole words, but sequences of letters that were completely giberish to them.
@@bigusdickus9903 You guys are overthinking this. I started BASIC programming in 3rd grade, and my English classes didn't start until middle school. These programming languages don't require many keywords, and as a 9 year old I can remember them quickly, although I don't understand their exact usage in English. Chinese input methods were popular even before GUI operating systems. In those days, in addition to memory-resident programs for processing Chinese characters under DOS, there were expansion cards specifically for Chinese character processing.

@VietDynamicChannel The two-mountain rotation war was a national survival war for Vietnam, and China only used it to train its troops. At that time, every Chinese theater sent new troops to train in rotation. After all this, you actually said that China is afraid of Vietnam, which is the unique confidence of Southeast Asia
China has always struggled with domestic development, even today they rely quiet a bit on licensed versions of russia or western tech, stolen designs, or improvements on existing foreign designs. Even today Norinco and other PRC companies use many designs that are based on old soviet inventions. Innovation has always been a problem for the PRC
@@Gustav_Kuriga The carrier they commissioned a little over a decade ago is a Soviet ship they converted, the ship that got commissioned in 2017 is based almost entirely off the first ship, the Chinese just got caught within the last year or so trying to lure in people who worked on American carriers to pick their brains and apply that knowledge on Chinese carriers, and their whole carrier program has been going for decades and was based almost entirely off reverse engineering foreign made ships and foreign technology. Similar story with their fighter program which owes heavily to stolen western technology and imported Russian tech. just 2 years ago Russia reportedly had a hacking attack from China that featured stolen aircraft tech and the same happened to the US. Until the Ukraine war China was still importing things like Russian made engines. China's stealth tech is almost entirely American: they had access the F-117 and they famously hacked the F-22 and F-35 programs. If you look at a lot of the PLA's equipment like small arms and then look at it's development history you'll find phrases like "licensed copy" or "derived from" a ton with Russian and Soviet origins. Roughly 100,000 personnel and probably billions of rubles were spent on those outposts, which are now mostly dismantled and left to rot. A lot of the military equipment given to the MPA and the entire Soviet stock for the troops stationed there were sent back to the USSR, Ashame the Mongolian people's army was the most competent, capable fighting force in an era in all of Asia (not counting the soviets) compared to their contemporaries, a real Enigma.
A period of great reform and restructuring within the PLA as one of the "Four Modernizations" outlined as strategic objective by the Communist Party of China under Deng Xiaoping. The PLA put more emphasis on combined arms operations displayed in the North China Military Exercises of 1981 and reduction of troop strength by over a million men in 1985.

The PLA suffered heavy casualties in their brief border wars with the USSR, and Vietnam. They learned human wave attacks will be insufficient with the increased accuracy of up to date weaponry.
