  • Each month The Brain & Behavior Research Foundation hosts a Meet the Scientist Webinar featuring a researcher discussing the latest findings related to mental illness. In July, 2018, the Foundation featured Dr. Randy D. Blakely of Florida Atlantic University.
Description: The heritability of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and its treatment by brain dopamine modulating medications, such as Adderall and Ritalin, raise the question as to whether risk for ADHD is impacted by improper control of dopamine availability or action. Dr. Blakely will discuss his group’s discovery of multiple, rare changes in a gene responsible for brain dopamine availability in individuals with ADHD, and how the study of these mutations suggests new insights into pathophysiological mechanisms and diagnostic strategies.

Great video! Do any of you know of any newer studies that must have been conducted by now? Curious as to where this research stands today.

ADHD also has significant co-morbidity with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.
    I don't know what that wasn't mentioned.
I am a neurodivergent with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD.

Probably not mentioned because it is not included in the title. Therefore it is out of scope.
ADHD has high comorbidity with a substantial number of conditions.
With respect to the two that you mentioned I think the mouse training models are illuminating. Assisting ADHDs with learning often requires novel variants of the standard teaching models which address the impulsivity and tighter time windows of opportunity.

The list was not exhaustive maybe did not mean to be but id guess there is way worse than those in average severity like depression or obesity and its implications or pain not lowered by dopamine at cognitive effort aka discomfort of maybe noradrenaline did not mention that eather.
