1955 Chevy Truck ( 2 year BackYard Rebuild Step by Step )

  • Me and my Dad started this truck about 2 years ago, from the frame up. It was originally owned by my grandfather but it sat for the last 18 years and got totally rusted out, lots of rust cancer, it would have been easier for me to get a cheap donor truck with a straight body to do the build with, but I wanted to breathe life back into my Grandfathers truck, so let's just say there was a lot of cutting and welding done to this truck. I C Notched the rear End, put 4 inch drop mono leaf springs in the rear I still had to use some blocks to raise it a little more to get the rack I wanted, I put in a Heidts Front Clip, 700R Tranny, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Disc Brakes, it has a small 305 in it right now just to get around town, but i have a 350 sitting in my shed to get rebuilt heavy

    Beautiful job, I absolutely love the Old Chevy Trucks from the 50's & 60's! The work you and your dad did together is Def something you will have forever as a special shared bond!! These are the times "Golden Memories" are made! Beautiful Job & maybe someday I will have the opportunity to buy one, somewhere!!

    When you have something like this that have a lot of work to be done sometimes is easier to to get a donor you made the right decision by bringing it back to life specially because of the history behind the truck thanks for sharing it is awesome to see someone taking the time to rescue this oldies to many they are a thing of the past but to the few they are one of a kind because is nothing better then to go for a MIDNIGHT CRUISING

I am doing cab corners lower tab hinge pockets and rockers just like you did. and just like you my doors are in pretty bad shape so I was contemplating whether to try to repair them or buy new ones. thanks for posting your video it has been an inspiration. you did an awesome job I just hope mine turns out as nice is yours. I used a product called Rust Bullet (Automotive Formula) its a rust inhibitor, it works really good. I sanded the frame down to pretty much all bare metal then used Rust bullet but it needs to be top coated at least the one I got because its not protected against UV light (SUN), I found out the hard way when a area exposed to the sun for a couple weeks started to peel and I had to redo that area, I would have like to power coated the frame but didn't because of the heavy cost of it.

    Beautiful work. What type welder and settings did you use of the IFS? I'm still a little new to welding and am not sure I can pull off the weld size it takes for suspension parts.

    • @georgesspot
      @georgesspot  10 років тому

      the welder I used was a Miller Dynasty 200 DX TIG/Stick Welder, I Stick Welded it using 1/8 welding rod to lay down a 1/4 weld bead in a single pass, that welder is pretty pricey, I borrowed it from work, as I was a welder at the time, but you just need a welder that can burn 1/8 welding rod, I would NOT have a weld bead less then 1/4 inch on your IFS. By settings I take it your talking about the amps that I used to burn the rod, well every machine is different by usually you want to burn 1/8 rod from 110 to 130 amps

      @georgesspot  8 років тому

      +1958 gmc 100 i did have to use reproduction doors, i would have rather stayed with the originals ones but they were way to rusted out, i tried to save them but it was a no go. they were not too bad of a fit, but believe me you will have to do some adjusting with a big hammer, and torch to bend them into the best fit, i let my body shop guy takle this, i would suggest the same unless to have those skills, i mean they come from china so enough said lol, i got mine at "THE TRUCK SHOP" in Anaheim CA, they have a online catalog where you can find everything after market for these trucks i mean EVERYTHING, hope the info helps
