I actually just got this 15” laptop Kanken in Frost Green about two months ago to use as my personal bag. I work remotely so I needed something that could fit my 13” laptop but also my 15” portable monitor (also no Swedish fish in mine and I ordered straight from Fjallraven). I originally purchased the classic but it was too tight for the monitor and had to return it. I’m super excited to use it on my flight next month as I’ve just used it to visit friends around town. And I love that this has the padded straps. If I would have seen this video originally I could’ve saved hours of UA-cam searches on the 15”. If I was just using it for around town then the classic or mini would be fine, but as a personal item or weekender bag, this is perfect. Love it 💖🌈🎒
Hiiii!!! Thank you for watching! Man! They are slacking on the Swedish fish situation. hahaha Eh, they probably don't do it anymore. 🤷🏾♀️YAY! I love that you love the bag! I'm so excited about it. Yes, I used the classic for several years, but secretly always wanted to laptop compartment. haha So I finally took the jump. Plus the padded straps...😍! I had to return my first order too, as I originally ordered the 17", hoping I would like the extra space (I also have a 13" laptop) but it was just a bit too big for my taste, but this size is perfect! I hope you enjoy your trip next month! And keep loving the bag! 💕
@@KRodCollective This is my doubt! Despite being 1.76 tall. I want a kanken that fits all occasions and has separate space for my mac or ipad. I already have a sling and a totepack mini. Apart from the color which is also difficult to choose. I'm really in trouble. LOL
thank you for this review. I'm in a similar situation where my old classic is so beaten up (it's actually starting to break) and I've been thinking between getting another classic and the 15, so I've been trying to find info online on how the 15 differs from the classic. For what I want and need in a backpack, I think the classic will be better for me. But you included info about the 15 in this video that I couldn't find elsewhere that helped me make my decision, so thanks for that.
The two points over the A is actually a letter that is part if the alphabeth in Sweden. It is an Ä and it does not sound like ”A” att all but more like if you say “E” in “Elle” like the magasine. “Fjell” then “räven” is also the ”Ä” but it is pronounced a little bit different and similar to how you pronounce “ai” in “hair” “raiven”-räven. So the Ä can sound in two different ways depending of it is followed by one or two consonants. Fjellraiven - Fjällräven 👍🏼
@@KRodCollective And also, it's actually not called KANKEN, it's called KÅNKEN and the Å is pronounced as the a in called. Thank you for all your insight! I've been looking for something that has the dimensions to pack key essentials & accepted across most major airlines - even budget ones - as a personal item. I always travel with my work laptop - and because of this I've ended up with a collection of various laptop bags with different dimensions which are acceptable with one airline, but not always with another. Frustrating! I've never owned or used a Kanken before, it's not really popular where I live & I don't know anyone who uses or has one, so I'm relying on advice and reviews from the UA-cam travel community. Kind of annoyed that I wish I knew about it earlier - my past self would have saved money, but better late than never. I placed an order today via the official website for the 13" laptop version in the colour black. Looking forward to testing it as the new work bag & then next month for a 3 day trip to the Netherlands as my only carry on ✈️ 🇳🇱 exciting times! P.s. I live in a rainy climate 🌧 and saw that they also sell rain covers, it seemed like a no-brainer to get that as extra protection against electronics getting water damaged. I'm hoping that it is a good investment, so I can resell all the others, finally reclaim wardrobe space and peace of mind that it can be used for travel without sizing or dimension issues.
Hi Aisha! I’m so sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment. I totally understand. I feel like I’ve got a pile of different travel bags and really should sort through them and make a final decision on what works for me vs. what doesn’t. How are you feeling about your Kanken so far? Do you like it? Do you think it’s working for you and a good option? Or is it maybe not a good fit and you might return it? Keep me updated! Safe travels and hope you’re having fun in The Netherlands. ❤️✈️
@KRodCollective Hi, you must get a lot of notifications, thank you for checking in! I flew to the Netherlands with Ryan Air, who are notorious for being stringent on luggage size, but they didn't stop me to check dimensions, which was surprising and a nice change. Boarding was really easy. I noticed lots of people at the airport with the Kanken, or maybe I was seeing it more now because I know about the brand. I got the feeling that the airline is familiar with people flying with the Kanken and that it'll be no problem fitting under the seat. I honestly think I could fly with the 15" version in the future if it isn't overstuffed, but a part of me is also hesitatant to test out the theory and risk it at the airport. 😅 Since graduating, I've ended up with a collection of fancy bags over the years, some bought and some gifted, but none are as comfortable as this backpack. It quickly became my go-to daily work bag. I like how the laptop section is separate. It fits all my essentials for the day and is comfortable. I've kept one designer work bag at the office for serious meetings, seeing clients, or going to court. I'm a lawyer, and a part of me wishes I had this Kanken in my student days. It would have saved me a lot of shoulder and back ache. My main critique is that Kanken doesn't have a luggage strap and attracts a lot of dust. I've kept the Kipling Superworker just because it has a back pocket with a hidden zip underneath, which becomes a luggage strap when unzipped, and that is such a clever design element. I know Kanken are trying to be environmentally friendly, but if they released an all black leather or even vegan leather version, I would buy it in a heartbeat. I bought the Kanken only this year, and it's starting to look very old. Overall, though, it has become a key staple in my daily life, for weekend trips, so for the time being, it is here to stay, and I'm glad to have made the purchase. 🤍
I should make a follow up shouldn’t I? I do love the laptop bag although I will admit, I think I like the classic Kanken a tad bit better especially for when I’m out and about and don’t have my laptop but both have been great! ❤️
Great video, thank you! I was interested to see that you also bought the 17" but found it too big. I am looking for a new school bag for my 12 year old daughter, and it needs to have room for all her books, water bottle etc but also her PE kit (shoes, leggings, t-shirt and fleece top). I ordered a Doughnut Macaroon but it's too small to fit the PE kit in. Do you think the 15" laptop would be OK, or would I need to get the 17"? My daughter isn't very tall for her age so trying to find the best balance. Also, are the side pockets the same size for both bags, and do you think a slim metal water bottle would fit? Thank you!
The straps adjust so you could try the 15 and the side pockets are the same on both bags I use the 15 as a purse, I can carry my 13 inch MacBook and 12.9 iPad Pro 2018, large medium size makeup bag I got my tj max is square, a pouch got all my cords, kindle in a pouch, a book, pencil case, Nintendo switch some times and I still have space but I would recommend the 17 inch for your daughter but the straps do adjust
Hi! Thanks for watching! I agree with both comments. The 17” was a bit too big for what I needed for travel. But like Daja said, the straps do adjust. I love the 15” and have the extra space I was looking for without being too long on my back. I personally would suggest trying the 15” and seeing how it goes for her. If it’s too small, then get the 17”. Also, another thing you could do is compare the measurements for the 15”, 17”, and the Doughnut Macaroon and see which one is bigger or how comparable they are. That way, if the the 15” and the Doughnut Macaroon are similar in size, then you can go with the 17”. Hope this helps! 💕
I have a question, I got this same bag and it looks exactly like yours. The shoulder pads inside color worries me because anytime I see the bag in Fjallraven's official photos that part is light grey with the ochre bag. Is it that the new model has that part i grey color and we might have an old version? This worries me because I just bought from authorized seller but with so much counterfeit I still have my doubts. Thanks for any insight
Hi there! Hmm, I think I'm a little confused. You got the same bag as me, but the shoulder straps are grey? I don't know if I've see it like that, only with the multicolor ones. If you bought it off the official website, it should be legit. You can even return it and get a new one. Do you live in a city with an actual store? I wonder if you could go look at them? 🤔

Hi Donavan! Sorry for my late response. I’ve heard such great things about Herschel backpacks! The regular Kanken is a great option for a daily bag. I used my regular Kanken as a travel bag and a daily bag for years. I’m not sure if the 15” is too big for a 13” backpack. I would assume so since they sell a 15” backpack, but I’m not sure. I would check the measurements on the website. 💕

Hi there!! I believe it should but double check with the airline's dimensions. If you're traveling with just that, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. But also depends on where you're traveling and which airlines. 💕
Remember that you can buy them 2nd hand. Most of them are in great condition and sometimes you don't even pay half the price. I got my 16 L one for 37 € (new it costs 100).
Yes! Such a good point. Thank you so much! They last so long that buying a second hand one would be such a good investment and it will be worn in already. 💕
@@KRodCollective does it reach the bottom of the backpack or is slightly higher? It’s a feature that usually laptop backpacks have in order not to damage your laptop if you put the bag down on the floor in a not delicate way.
Hey one question on the website they say the maximum dimensions are actually 36cm x 26cm. But you’re saying its 40cm x28cm? Is it actually that big? Im asking because my laptop is 39x 26 and i thought i have to opt for 17 instead of 15.
Hi Wiktoria! I would go with the measurements on the website. I don't know why I did this, but as I was filming this, I was measuring the bag with a measuring tape, so the measurements might be a bit skewed. (Sorry about that.) Plus I think the material will break down a bit with usage. I originally ordered the 17" inch but ended up exchanging it for the 15" because the 17" was just too big for me. My laptop is a 13". I hope this helps! 💕
It sure is! I’ve flown with Ryanair many times with my Kanken. If you want to bring any other luggage you’d have to pay for it. But the Kanken is good!

Is the ochre color bright? I would love to get a warm yellow one, but they don't have it for the laptop version :c
Hi!! Eh, I don’t think it’s too bright. It’s not like a bright sun yellow. It’s more like a mustard yellow. I hope you find the perfect color! 💕
Hi is this good for Ryanair???
It sure is! I’ve flown with Ryanair many times with my Kanken. If you want to bring any other luggage you’d have to pay for it. But the Kanken is good! 💕
@@KRodCollective kanken 17" inch is good for Rynair too?
@@kmylla03 Its a little bit too big. I've flown with the 15 inch though and its fine!
@@traci506 thank you very much for the feedback. I'll buy the 15 inch one then. The challenge now is to choose the color. hehe
i got a kanken right when the pandemic started and didnt get any swedish fish so its probably due to the pandemic but not sure since i got it so soon after lockdown.
Yes, I have a feeling they don't do it anymore. 😔At least not online anyway. 🤷🏾♀
I just got the kanken mini.2 in acorn and cost 130 after tax but I think coz leather details
Ah nice!! Leather details! Enjoy that! 💕
We need an update on the bag!!
Hahaha yes! I really should give an update! 💕
One crucial moment for me - travel pack is way more expensive (twice as price) and 2 times heavier
Thank you for this!! 💕
you can buy a bottle holder for the kanken that will fit your big hydroflask ;-)
OOOoohhhh love this! Thanks for the hack, Julia! 💕
You can get a water bottle pocket for £25 and can fit 40oz (1.18L) water bottle. Idk how much it costs + tax where you live though
Oh this is great! Thank you, Autumn!! 💕
