3 inch square of hardtack, 3 inch square of pemmican, and a 3inch slice of hard cheese. wax paper between them, and wrapped in wax paper. hiking/camping meal on the go.
@@TheStraycat74 good idea. But if I hiking/camping. I’m eating goood. And I’ve had all that and it’s not a good meal unless it’s the end of a survival situation
First off thanks for watching. And the website is call frozen right. I've also seen them in Etsy. So there are multiple places. So I'd would shop around.
I have heard about Pemmican since I was a child in the 50’s. Now that I have seen your video and since I have a freeze dryer, I want to make your recipe. QUESTION: Can you substitute Ghee made from butter for the Beef tallow? Thanks
Leave the nuts out. If you want I didn't like the texture or the crunch factor. I don't see why you couldn't use ghee it absorbs into the dried fruit. I don't know about the shelf life, or the nutritional value.
It won’t last long Plus it won’t form into a bar…it will just be a greasy mess. I tried with lard and ghee before and it was awful. Using tallow means you end up with bars that you can hold
@@MrChanges50 but you don't have to freeze dry any of it you just want whatever you use to be as dry as possible. Just in case someone doesn't have a freeze dryer How it preserves is the tallow absorbs into the dried meat and fruit they why it'll last so long.
@@MrChanges50 no need to buy a dehydrator ,really no reason for the freeze dryer when making pemmican its been made for hundreds of years without either

You can probably take it on a dayhike

I've always wondered how that tasted
You'll have to try it.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching
How long can you store it at room temp?
From my research up to 50+ years
Oh wow... that's worth making for sure!
50+ only meat+fat only
Did you freeze dry the meat after you smoked it?
Yes I did. Freeze dried everything but the tallow
@@blueoutside3394 thank you

@@blueoutside3394 yes sir. I was asking about freeze drying because we have a freeze dryer and I was trying to keep from having to buy a dehydrator.

Did it taste like catfood 😅? If so what would you do different next time?
It did not taste like catfood. Lol but I would change putting nuts in it. I would not do nut again.
😅👌
I cannot see or understand from a nutrition point--- WHY would you want tois fruit wih the protein and fat !!! It is absolutely CRAZY
It's a survival food used for hundreds of years. It has everything needed to survive
Scurvy
Add Beets for the nitrate that will help your muscles. Good in case of a crisis and will give you a jump in energy for running.
@@suatae good to know. Thanks
@@doseferatuit’s been shown that even just tallow keeps you from getting scurvy.
