JBL Flip4 Firmware Update (how to)

- This video explains the firmware update process for the JBL Flip4 wireless Bluetooth speaker.
The update of the firmware / software on the speaker requires an Android phone or an iPhone with the JBL Connect app installed. The app can be found in the Google Play Store or the App Store.
Once the app identifies the speaker, check for the little red dot on the settings icon at the bottom of the screen. This indicates that there is an update available.
The update process takes about 20minutes. Make sure not to close the app at any time during the update. Otherwise the speaker may not be functional afterwards!
Wait for the speaker to reset and restart on its own. Then the speaker and the phone can be used again.
That update was available over a year ago, i use it for a long time now, and it is great. Really recommend to update. iT's great.
do you have to turn on also the bluetooth or just the wifi?

Playing while charging kills the battery? this one's doesn't work like a laptop when it's plugged in????
I’ve got (2) Flip 4s. I bought both one week apart. Last night, I updated one speaker from the app as prompted by the little dot on the bottom of the app screen. Now that the dot on the app screen is used and gone, how do I update the 2nd speaker?

After the firmware update when I on my power on button it's doesn't sound like before the signature sound actually it's good or bad
That took about 28 minutes to perform the update from 3.2 to 4.0. Make sure you have some time set aside!

4.0 caused erratic battery reading. I charge it full. It takes like 2 hours (charger is 5v 1.5 amp). Then I listen to songs and in around an hour, the battery goes to one point (red) and it turns off. If I power up, it the battery shows 3 points again in an hour it goes to one point (red) and goes off. The cycle repeats and remember I'm not charging just restarting flip 4. I want to downgrade to 3.8 or 3.9. How can I do that?
How about the friend sound changed in something I have version 3.2 worth updating to version 3.9

My flip 4, only bought it for like half an year, is having a battery issue where it runs real quick. And when it charges, I find some problems like stopping the blink (which indicates it is being charged) stops at 4 point and never run to 5th unless I replug it. And the sounds are getting distorted when the light hit red which indicates the battery has run short. I get it if the battery is efficiently using the juice by not using its full sound quality but when I turn up the volume at that moment,the battery runs out and the speaker shuts down. I bought it as my travel accessory and it doesn't quite help me with my purpose.

Done. It still doesn't charge past the 4th notch. Will charge overnight and see.

Firmware updates cannot be removed that way.

Downloaded the app. It finds the flip 4. Says I need an update. I click on it but it says please turn off jbl connect+ to upgrade but no option to do that?
you have to connect it to the charger and then back out of that page and get back into it to be able update it.
I can’t get the app to find the device. Ugh

I have a JBL flip 4 where it does not play well when connected via bluetooth it kinda stutters (sounds like when you are beyond the allowed distance for a bluetooth connection)
Any ide why this is so??
Late answer, but it might help others in the future:
Resolution 1: If the speaker is connected to two devices, disconnect one.
Resolution 2: If the device you are playing music from is connected to bluetooth audio devices, disconnect one.
Resolution 3: Factory reset your JBL Flip 4 (there are other videos on YT with tutorials for that).

@@juandavidcortesortiz383 Ipad, Note 8, even Iphone 12 won't do they all stop at 10% cause the JBL turns off

it doesn't work , I have tried several times to disconnect and reconnect the speaker to external power, but he doesn't want to know. I also tried to restart the app and the speaker, but nothing. If you can give me advice, tanks
i had the same issue. in the app you can see the list of compatible devices. there i chose the flip 4 and followed the instructions. i allowed acces to telephone and contacts, then the app suddenly found the flip 4. obviously JBL needs access to my contacts list, to update the hardware...
@@stefaniekurtz5815 yes, I checked the compatibility, but unfortunately trying and trying again, it doesn't work the same .. even for too many attempts the app stopped me .. I don't know why ..

When I tap on the orange "update" bar, the bar turns grey and it has the words "I followed the instructions" written there. Which I did. And nothing happens. And the bar is grey and unclickable.
I swear, the amount of time I spent trying to get this speaker to work properly... *clenches and unclenches fists slowly*

Unfortunately not. Flip4 and Flip5 are incompatible hardware wise.

When start charging my jbl flip 4 the Bluetooth disconnects
Some Bluetooth speakers do not support charging and playing music at the same time.
This may be the case for the Flip4.

@@MegaSafetyFirst I’m trying to upgrade my JBL flip 4 ,I downloaded the JBL app and it says to upgrade it I have to keep the flip 4 charging but when I plug the charger the Bluetooth disconnects

Oh, now I remember. You are right, the Flip4 should definitely stay connected when it is plugged in.
Are you able to start the update without plugging it in when the battery is above 50% charged? I believe there was a threshold for when they allow to update without charging.

In case the speaker is still under warranty, I’d contact JBL for a replacement.

Dice que hay una actualización de la bocina. Usar un celular android o apple, conectar tu cell con la bocina. Luego debes tener la aplicación en el mercado. Luego aplicar la actualización
