Very cool! Actually the way it is made, is the thin top layer of acrylic is actually poured first, then once cured, the Enterprise is laid on top, upside down, then the rest of the cavity is filled. If you look closely, you can see where the highest points on the Enterprise are resting perfectly on that seam line of the two acrylic layers.
So funny - I JUST watched this episode and wondered where the original prop ended up (answered in the video - thank you!) plus this replica looks friggin' great. A bit spendy, but I may have to treat myself.
Wow! I always wanted one of those, they knew it would be a coveted and cool collectible sought out by fans who expected such precise replication. You are correct about them using the loose Enterprise in the Doomsday Machine. I agree, this is a very nice piece. I'm surprised this hasn't been made earlier with all the prop replica companies out there.
I saw this on Facebook and was on the fence. Your video convinced me. I always thought Catspaw was a stupid episode but I liked the Enterprise prop. Uhura was the senior officer so should of been in command. Instead they brought in some guest star. Disrespect to the Uhura character. Product of the 60's. Well, now I will have the prop in a few days. Only $100, what the heck. Very excited!

The interesting thing is that there were two of the metal prop Enterprise miniatures made for "Catspaw". One was the miniature out of the "forcefield", and the one encased in it. That way time wouldn't be wasted filming awaiting for a single prop to sit in the mold and cure. One could just be quickly replaced with the other on the set. Live long & prosper 😊🖖 You prob know this but Lucille Ball is responsible for Star Trek going on the air. It was filmed at Desilu which she owned at that time after Desi sold his half to her.
if u look at the pic at time 15}54 the side view showing the block in a block it looks like a seam in the inner block they made a top and bottom block encasing the enterprise,so they poured 1/2 set the ship in,poured the other half say the top, most likely equal thinking the enterprise wwould sit perfect while it set then poured the top, after a visible line was present so they decided to encase the inner block in one solid block,it makes sense since the factory one in this vid like mine shows a line at the topmost of the block, they probably thought they could hide the seem in the original by encasing the whole piece once in the inner block they could make a mold to enase the entire block with the ship, basically pouring in one pour rather than 2...
@plauro1 Wow! That makes a lot of sense! Yeah they probably figured since it was going to get a closeup shot, they needed to hide the lines better. Great observation on that! 😁👍
@@outsider238 my pleasure im a prop maker and grew up from that era so i know some of the old tricks in prop making n yes u nailed it it would hide the lines better especially filming and it does u cant see its 2 blocks unless u have it close and using modern lights and like your review,we couldnt inspect it watching the show, they really were inventive back in those days with limited budgets!

Just so everyone knows. Many of these have been delivered flaws. The ships are crooked in the Lucite or set too high and the nacelles are crooked. Im betting the higher the number the more these issues arise. Several peole returned theirs for ones that were a bit more acceptable.
@Anth230 Yeah they're hand made so there will be some flawed ones but Factory Entertainment said they will replace any that customers are dissatisfied with.
If you look at the original unencased prop, the nacelles are wonky as well. I’ve noticed in most of the pictures of these Factory Entertainment replicas I’ve seen ( as well as mine and the one in this video ) that the engines are all tilted very similarly, with the port nacelle slightly up and the starboard slightly down, echoing the way the non encased one looks in the close-up when it’s dangling over the flame ( although not quite as noticeably as in the episode). This leads me to believe it may be a deliberate choice by the manufacturer, to look similar to the way it’s most clearly seen in the show.
I'm disappointed with the poor detailing of the ship. They clearly put it together out of mass machined parts with little actual craft work involved. It lacks charm and appears mass produced (not unique enough to make me). The resin pour is also visible. cheap. $12.95 max.
I always wanted one of those as a young child back in the early 70$ now it’s here fifty plus years later 😅❤❤❤

@mem1701movies Factory Entertainment doesn't make one of those versions but very rarely the loose ones pop up on ebay from time to time. It's possible Factory Entertainment will make that version as well since they already have the means of making it.
Wait, they're numbered, I gotta check mine
@@mrhay2u What number do you have?
Pretty cool prop. Looks like a really weird episode. They should have gotten Liz Taylor to play Sylvia!
@@eric_in_floridaIt's a different episode for sure. I personally really like it. Liz probably would have asked for too much money! 😂🤣
Yeah imagine what they would have paid for that episode, but Liz Taylor would have been awesome in the role! Kind of like Virginia Wolf!
@@nicholasklangos9704 Very true!
Live long & prosper 😊🖖 You prob know this but Lucille Ball is responsible for Star Trek going on the air. It was filmed at Desilu which she owned at that time after Desi sold his half to her.
@yamil.343 Yes indeed! If it wasn't for Lucy, there would be no Star Trek.
The deflector array is different from the prop to the replica.
@icecreamtruckog3667 Yeah that tiny detail was probably hard to make exactly right. The loose one I have is slightly different as well.
Did we ever find out how many they made?
I got mine last week but i forgot to see what number it is.🤓
@JGG1701 I was told it was 1,000. I'm not sure how many they have left but if it is 1,000, they got to be getting closer to running out.
if u look at the pic at time 15}54 the side view showing the block in a block it looks like a seam in the inner block they made a top and bottom block encasing the enterprise,so they poured 1/2 set the ship in,poured the other half say the top, most likely equal thinking the enterprise wwould sit perfect while it set then poured the top, after a visible line was present so they decided to encase the inner block in one solid block,it makes sense since the factory one in this vid like mine shows a line at the topmost of the block, they probably thought they could hide the seem in the original by encasing the whole piece once in the inner block they could make a mold to enase the entire block with the ship, basically pouring in one pour rather than 2...
@@outsider238 oh im also a subscriber great channel!
@@plauro1I have total respect for the amazing and clever craftspeople that made the props and sets back in the day of those shows and movies. They really had to be on their toes to make all that stuff. Did you work on any shows back then? It's cool you have experience with that craft!
@@plauro1 Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! 😁
I just got mine and its serial number 0415 , so they are going fast .
@JL-yi1fx They are! I got one for my dad and it was in the 800s.
It looks cool , but the fact that the primary hull isnt correct would bug the heck out of me.
@fuzzysniper It's meant to look like the way the actual prop looked from the episode. The original wasn't correct either.
it was never meant to be an exact copy.
@outsider238 I guess I couldn't tell that by the angles it was filmed at.
I mean it's still got a cool factor of 1000 but I'm just picky on the accuracy thing is all .
@@fuzzysniper Yeah, it's accurate to the prop but not the filming model.
I want one
How much are they asking
@@VinnieCruz-jt7zm $100. Which honestly isn't a bad price compared to what I paid for the loose one.
@@outsider238 thank you friend Star Trek lives

How much does Sylvia look like Iman Vellani (Of the Marvels)?
@@kelvington4182 A younger version of Sylvia. Before she got her powers! 😆😅

just bought 2
@MajorAnthonyNelson Haha! I just showed my dad today and he loved it so much I ordered one for him. I love your UA-cam name! I'm a huge fan of I Dream Of Jeannie! I did several videos about it.
@@outsider238 me too. i’m 60. i have always wanted this prop since 1974. lol.
@MajorAnthonyNelson Well worth the price in my opinion. Such a cool and unique piece! 😁
They need to sell without plastic too.
@@TheMoneypresident That might be coming up now with the success of this piece. I'd get one of those too!
You can hang it on your rearview mirror for your car/SUV/Truck/Van/minivan 😁🤣😂
@@Movie-Collectibles Hahaha! It's kind of heavy! 😆😁
Hi😊
Can you upload some more emo videos since I like the emo robot and I was one there really good.
I'll be releasing a new Aibi video in a few minutes. Emo's new update hasn't come out yet which I think will enable him to interact with Aibi so hopefully I can make a video showing that as well. 😁
@outsider238 maybe aibi might get an update so that can interact with emo but I think living ai is to busy to update the robot so it takes a while
@@Liamblox1223 I'm thinking it'll be a while as well. They have to get all the Aibis working. 😁
@dep1701 Oh! Good catch! I never noticed that before. My dad ordered one that's in the 800s and it was fine.
First and great!
ripping people off on ebay over $200
Yeah it's typical. Hopefully buyers will know they can still get these (at least for now) for the original price.
I'm disappointed with the poor detailing of the ship. They clearly put it together out of mass machined parts with little actual craft work involved. It lacks charm and appears mass produced (not unique enough to make me). The resin pour is also visible. cheap. $12.95 max.
The original prop was just machined parts with no detail. This piece is made to look like the original, lack of details and all.
@@outsider238 No. The prop had more detailing. Look again at the closeup in your video and then compare it to this piece of junk.
First and great
