    I just got back from miami and I managed to catch a couple of nice peas but It took me a couple trips of trial error to get what you said in this video figured out. I like to use smaller size Enrico Pulgusi style flies. Great video, it was no only super informative but well edited and well produced. I subscribed and I hope you will make more in the future.

    • @GeekOnTheWater

      Sorry to hear it was tough to figure out at first but so glad you honed them in! Man aren't they one of the best species to target on the fly?!
      I'll be sure to check out Enrico's flies and your channel looks like it's got some great content. Thanks for subscribing I have trips to Maine and Belize planned this year. I'll be sharing a gar on the fly and snakehead on the fly video in the coming weeks!! Tight lines!

    Awesome video, Jacob! I’m heading to Miami, FL in October for one week for my brothers wedding. I’m bringing my 7wt and 8wt. Would you be able to share any intel on east / public access to tamiami canal and snapper creek canal please? Yeah, your video like others said I’d the best peacock, Miami, FL video hands down. Trust me, I’ve been spending a lot of time lately on google maps on my iPhone and MacBook Pro laptop. Lol. Just so many commercial, residential, etc… along the canals.

    I agree that any fly that looks or acts like a little fish works fine. Peacock bass are not leader shy, so leader sized doesn't matter that much. GOLD is the color, My favorite fly is a Crazy Charlie with Pink bead chain eyed and lots of GOLD Flash-a-boo. I like small flys and use a 5 weight rod... the peacock bass love them and the smaller fish can also be caught on smaller flys. I'm it it for the action. You can not move your fly too fast for a peacock bass. I use a WF-Floating line so all my strikes are on the surface where I can see them... if a peacock bass, or 3 , are chasing your fly...DO NOT STOP OR SLOW DOEN... strip faster. LOL. LOL. LOL. Our peacock bass average just over 2 pounds with a 3 to 5 pounder not that uncommon... good fun on a 5 weight rod. Aloha, Stan

    Could you help me with hook size? Id like to tie some clousers and deceivers and was wondering what hook size is best? I've seen 2/0-4/0 recommended.

    Geek on the Water! Awesome video well laid out and super information! I was just down in Miami a few weeks back and had a chance to get a few hours in fishing for Peacock bass. I am going back down in a few days and will take also my fly rod this time after watching your video. I would love to know what Canal you fished as I am short of time as mainly there for work. If I remember right there is a bag limit of 2, but peacock bass although edible and don't taste half bad are more for catch and release fun. I wouldn't eat one out of most of the canals in the florida area because the water looks nasty. If you find an area with clean water then go for it.

    An 8wt?.....seriously? 😅😅😅

    • @GeekOnTheWater
      @GeekOnTheWater  5 років тому

      As said in the video a 5 wt suits them perfectly well if you stay with small patterns.... I like the 8 wt bc it allows you to mix in bigger streamers, sink tip lines, and the off chance of a tarpon or snook hook up. If I knew I was gonna go out for a few hours and throw only small flies in a canal with no tarpon or snook then I’d grab my 5 wt. 👍

    • @javicruzito
      @javicruzito 5 років тому

      @@GeekOnTheWater lol...really...well I use from 3wt to 5wt for them and I cast 5 to 6 inches with a 4wt rod without a problem, 8wt is an abuse for those fish lol....everything is in your arm and your casting ability....anyway give me your Instagram to follow you.

      @@javicruzito An 8wt is abuse? Really? The faster you get the fish in the better. An 8wt may be much for these fish but when throwing weighted lines and big flies I dont see an issue. Throwing 4" flys on a 4wt? Why would you? Abuse is fighting a fish to exhaustion on too light of gear.
