I like you love scale gear but im also getting a second rc that when i feel like it i can blow the dust off. Ive been researching heaps and hope to start my new hobby very soon. I rally liked what you had to say and i could see the passion that I understand look forward to more of your videos I truly enjoyed it 👍👍
Have just ordered my first rc crawler coming from a drift rc background. Went with a budget WPL kit but looking at other options to go crawling with my daughter. Great little hobby and thanks for a fantastic outlook for the beginner.
I kind of jumped into the RC world feet first and bought my first rig as a gas 1/5 scale. Have a friend who I really want to get into rock crawling to run with and he’s been doing it for a while and has been a big help. As far as budget goes one thing I did notice is getting into this as a first timer not only the rig but another thing I had to consider was the cost of getting into batteries. Since I haven’t really owned any RC in the past to get my first crawler I also need a couple of batteries and a good charger as I don’t want any fires or any mistakes and this is added an extra $150-$200 to my budget but considering I will probably end up buying more trucks in the future I’m kind of looking at it as an investment
This is an awesome video, and it's still relevant now. I've been looking at a Redcat Gen8 V2, Axial SCX10 II/III, and the new Traxxas High Trail editions. I love scale crawlers, to me "scale" means no body pins, that's why I started considering Traxxas more.
I’m new to crawling and my starter truck is a wpl c24-1. It’s a 1/16 scale with an old 80’s model Toyota shell. You can get it for $80-$100 and it comes with 3 rechargeable batteries, graphics kit, and accessories. So far I’ve been very impressed with its capability and range. It doesn’t have a ton of upgradable options but there are parts you can order to improve its performance. I’m waiting on a kit with axles, shocks, and gearing that I found. I also have a wheel and tire set ordered, but I took a gamble on weather or not they will fit. If you don’t have the budget for a 1/10 scale crawler, definitely check this truck out.
You know what.... spot on mate!!! +1 from me...1st Crawler, Bought a Banggood ,SCX10 "clone" portal axle carbon and aluminium beast of a thing and love it... Got it 2nd hand, super cheap barely used. To look at, and drive it's gorgeous... with 2.2's it's invincible!! Blown away! Being an X-Maxx owner.... it does, everything and rarely breaks... but the whole crawler thing... it's really solid and the people that share the hobby really share how they feel and will always try and help you to get your driving and your rig performing quite a few levels above you think you ever would... get out there and be social!!!! Crawling is huge fun... even in you're own garden... try the X-Maxx in your own garden... meh... neighbours window is going to be penetrated like nothing else.. hahahaa (Yeah... HUGE fan of the 8S X-Maxx... Brutal Animal of a car!) The creativity in 1/10th crawling is waaaaay cool... customisation.. it's crazy. Always vary a hobby... It's the enrichment of life....!!! Awesome vid mate!
My budget was $500. I spent $423 on the truck up front, ready to run out of the box. Then I spent the rest of my budget on extra stuff like servo horns and body pins (I was told you lose a lot of those) as well as tools, battery monitors, and a transport fireproof bag.
I'm doing my research . I'm an actual X Four-wheeler pres of one club & vp of another club Miss it alot Rock climbing ultimate high. Used to do muddn, river crossing . Rocks are the best . Good video
Thank you so. Much for you making this video I have used you thoughts and I have built me what I want an I built the rig I like just saying a big thanks to you

bought a trx4 for my first crawler.. pos broke first outing, 2 speed servo broke n locked up the trans. took it back to my lhs got my money back and ended up getting the scx10.2 crc jeep to replace it. mint, zero problems and its bone stock still except for cosmetics
I think a set of beadlocks maybe a better servo and maybe a motor? And that hobbywing esc everyone likes and everything can be bone stock and it’s fine
Alot of great info there. I built mine from the ground up, piece by piece. Ive got a thread on rcc of it in the scx10ii section. I wanna get the tr4 bronco next. Ive got so many ideas for different rigs. So ill probably end up with many many different trucks lol. My wifes goina end up kickin my butt! Only downfall, theres not really anybody where i live, that i know of, that has crawlers. Now, my boss has an airport behind the concrete plant n he has idk how many planes. But i have yet to find anybody that runs any rc trucks here
im in the same boat. i bought a helion avenge to bash with and no one around me bashes. theyre into racing and speed runs or crawling. oh well plenty of areas to bash and wow kids into the hobby. especially with this truck being 150 rtr.
I’ve been an axial fan for years but I’m considering a trx4 sport. I’ve owned traxxas vehicles for nearly 20 years. Need to sell a few rigs so I can buy a new one and try something different
To those who say " traxxas is not good for beginner, they are too expensive" it is not true. I got a 4- tec, an trx4, an scx10 and an hpi sprint 2 and all of them are very cool cars. I preffered trx4 for the two speed transmission and portal axle, the sprint 3 flux is faster than the 4- tec. The scx10 is pretty cool too
@@charlesbaril3038 Oh definitely they make a lotta trash not my favorite company by far too just because of how they act and handle things but quite honestly to me anyway they are usually the simplest offer Tons of rtr kits and are usually pretty durable and not too bad to work on so pretty beginner friendly 👌 and I mean if you ask almost anyone even not into rc they’re at least gonna know what Traxxas is for the most part
My issue with these crawlers is the oversized bodies. The rcwd moab II & axial capra seem decent. But unsure of shorty packs vs reg. A little speed is always nice for trails. ie 20mph. Im done with the 40mph rigs haha
Am glad I ran across this video. Am looking for a Crawler 1st one. I do have a Traxxas Maxx ,and 3 other off Brands. That work for me. The Traxxas parts are no problem to get in my Area. Been looking at other brands but am not into them. I like the Traxxas branded a lot.for every thing.Am willing to try other brands of Crawler products. But if anyone has any idea that would help me out please shot me a line or 2. Great video!!
I race 1/8 buggy and I want to get into crawling and I know how I am so I've been looking at the Bully 2 MOA but I can't find any info on how to control the different wheels and I'm trying to find something with 4-wheel steering. I know if I buy something it's not going to be good enough unless it's competition grade. Any ideas on where I can find this outor maybe a crawler that would already come that way $800-900 max I have a really good controller already so I do not need that but I ran nitro my whole life so I need to learn the electric and battery aspect of it. Any tips to help me get started is greatly appreciated!
Hi. Would you reccomend Absima Crawler Sherpa CR3.4 4WD RTR? I am new to crawlers, did some research and i am wandering if Absima Sherpa is nearly as good as Traxxas TRX4 and Axial Capra 1.9 or Axial SCX10? Thanks in advance.

Peter McPherson Peter, pick what one you like most and jump in. I’ve had all three of those and they all performed well. Plus, they are all great bases to mod, with the TRX and Axial having more aftermarket support than the Element.
i looled and looked and looked for a decent startup kit. then i found the helion avenge 10mt xb. 150 bucks at hobbytown. only problem with it is the motor is shit. got a max10 combo thrown in it. really wanted that rustler 4x4 but damn.
What do you guys think of the traxxas summit for crawling i had it for a while. do you think it's a good starter crawler. or should i save and get something else. :)
Summit is more of a basher. It will be fast and jump better than crawler/trail trucks but will not have low speed control, non scaled suspension geometry. Element enduro sandero HD is good truck imo.

Got the el cheapo Heng Long military truck, about thirty quids worth, yes it is limited and has its problems but my lad and I have enjoyed running them (I ended up with two by mistake!!), I have subsequently bought an RGT, orange fc body, and that is a great performer, I have done all this at full size and the RGT is just like full size, articulation and tyre squash the works, the only difference being when it all goes wrong you walk over and pick it up, as I said I am new to this and have no hobby shop to visit or other people to chat to, just making out the best I can, my greatest tip would be buy cheap knowing you will want to upgrade if you like it but not having spent a fortune if you don't, it can always be car booted or passed on as a present, that most important thing is give it a go and see, and don't give a jot to those who criticise about you playing with toys, invariably deep down they are just jealous.
Get a trx4 sport but if you want more speed it a defender but truly get a sport there all around better cheap to make to start great I have a defender and I wish I got a sport. save your money and has more room to grade more room to mark more modes and less to go wrong but rlly up to how think your gonna use it want to go from 5 mph to 11 get the defender but don’t then go for sport and will be better for you but depends how you want to run but rlly up to how you want to go

Absolutely. With that said, I will say that I rarely break stuff when i'm out besides a rod end or maybe a screw getting lost.
