    This was the last image I took for 2023. You did a great job on trying to preserve the core. Its so easy to blow out. This month we have been buried under weather. Fun Stuff

      Hi! Yes, the weather is not cooperating, lol. Last month, I photographed 15 targets with the Skywatcher and saved all of my images on external hard drives, and without any reason, the hard drive got bad, and I lost all of them. I sent it to a place to recover the data; they said it was impossible. Anyways, when it is cloudy, we edit old photos. OMG. Nice to see you!

      @@yourfavoriteastronerd I think I got only 5 or 6 targets for the year with everything that was going on. That said I have been living in the process my data thread on CloudyNights. You should come visit LOL.

    Another great tutorial, Diana! I often shy away from long videos unless they truly draw me in. This 40 minute video captured me. So well done. I really enjoyed following your process.
    You know, the stacked image for what it is, is really a great photo. But I do like how your PixInsight turned out too. I agree with you on having too much red.

    I polar align my dwarf using an inclinometer app to find my latitutde and a compass app set to true north. I find this is good enough to get good images with minimal field rotation. I have also found that using IR cut on M42 gives you sharper stars. Unfortunately, UA-cam won't let me attach the image I took. I am really happy with it despite imaging with a full moon under Bortle 7 skies. I use Siril and Gimp to process my images, as I won't pay the price for Pixinsight.

    • @yourfavoriteastronerd
      @yourfavoriteastronerd  8 місяців тому

      Wow, That's very good about the inclinometer. I've never heard of it. I tried several times to polar align the Dwarf but didn't get the results I wanted, so I will look into this and I think it's a great idea. I also want to try Seril; I believe it has excellent scripts. I watched some videos of it, and it looks good to me. Bortle 7 skies are hard; where are you located? My Daughter got a Dwarf 2, and they live in the city too; I assume it is around 7, too. They will do their first imaging session when they get clear skies. It has been very cloudy here. I was lucky just one night, the night in the video. Thank you for your information; I will look into it soon. Diana

      @@yourfavoriteastronerd I live in the north east of England.I also used another UA-camr's tip (Deep space astro) about how to repurpose a Celestron Omni barlow as a light/dew shield as well as being able to hold a UHC filter.

    • @yourfavoriteastronerd
      @yourfavoriteastronerd  8 місяців тому

      @@nekite1 Oh wow, you are far away! I see a lot of people from England here. I like Deep Space Astro. I watched that tutorial, but I am not sure if the weight of the Barlow can affect the Dwarf (motor). I thought someone mentioned this in his video. I like the idea! I would like to have a Bahtinov adapter for Dwarf; I believe Lukomatico created one for Seastar. I find it hard to get the perfect focus off the phone screen. Interesting!

    • @TugSkipper45
      @TugSkipper45 8 місяців тому +1

      I also polar align the Dwarf II by using my a Star Adventure mount which eliminates field rotation. Using IR cut will produce a much better focus and rounder stars for most DSOs. I also find that PininSight has a really steep learning curve and prefer using either SIRIL (free) or Affinity Photo (one time fee) for stacking and processing . Most Photoshop apps will run on Affinity phots. Thanks again for your great postings.

      @@TugSkipper45Hi! Wow, very creative, I had the Star Adventure mount. Do you mount the Dwarf on it? If I use The Optolong Filter, will it be okay to use the IR Cut or one at a time? I have some basic ones already, but they are constantly changing with new scripts that are easy to use. Pixinsight has the best in my opinion and Siril. First, I want to say that I am very thankful and flattered that you love my channel! That means so much. And I understand exactly what you are saying. I have not abandoned my serious work with a traditional rig and will be posting many more images from that work. However, I recognize that 'Smart Telescopes' are a new tool being introduced by all of the major manufacturers. I came across the Dward II first and saw the potential for a smart telescope to open our field to a much broader audience. At $500, the barrier to entry is significantly reduced making it easier for many more people to begin to understand and enjoy astrophotography. It also opens the field to children, encouraging them to look to the stars and find enjoyment in ways that are healthier and inspiring. My 7-year-old Grandson was able to use the Dwarf II successfully and his family has purchased him one to use all the time. Now, instead of gaming or television, he is photographing the universe.
      The Dwarf II will never replace the sophisticated work of traditional rig astrophotography. And I do not plan to oversaturate my channel with Dwarf II. However, I have been so blessed to learn about the universe and to be able to capture beautiful images and I want to open this world to as many others as possible. Dwarf II makes this possible. I hope you understand and continue to follow my channel. Diana ❤️
