After a long flight, the spaceship carrying Ripley did not return to Earth, but instead fell onto a dark, cold planet. Apart from the surviving Bishop, Ripley was the only survivor. When she retrieved Bishop's remains to check the flight records, her suspicions were confirmed: the aliens had arrived.
