I like traditional khmer music because it has similarities with traditional Javanese music, namely "gamelan" .. it's just that the "gamelan" is made of iron and the drums are both made of cowhide
Agree, when I visited Cambodia I was surprised how strikingly similar is the music with the one in Java and Bali. There must be strong connection between those cultures in the past.

cambodia, thailand has similar culture with java, sunda, and bali in indonesia. not only in music but also the traditional dances and cloths.
