Warren shows his production technique of layering acoustic guitars. He uses a standard acoustic and then doubles the part with a "Nashville Tuning" acoustic to simulate a 12-string guitar.
Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.

You can also dub a 2nd guitar using a capo...which I do on almost 90% of acoustic guitar recordings, along with a few other tricks such as this trick and a 12-string guitar...I have a dedicated guitar just for this trick....

Hi Friends, this is one of my favorite production tips for acoustic guitar. Many of you have probably heard me talk about the "Nashville Tuning" to simulate a 12-string guitar. First, I record an acoustic tuned regularly, then I double the part using a cheap guitar tuned with the high string of a 12-string. It is a really great sound and often it is much more defined than using a 12-string. It's even how they recorded many of the Tom Petty records that I really love! I hope you enjoy the video and please leave lots of comments! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

+Produce Like A Pro HEY Warren! Good to see Nashville tuning still rocks! Replace E wounded-string with a plain one (i.e. unwounded) and then play first 4 string on guitar, from top to bottom (E-A-D-G) followed by playing from botttom to top (E-B-G-D). Do YOU remeber anything? :)

Hi Warren, I'm now officially hooked on your videos and this one particularly is very useful. Thank you.
A cheap acoustic hunting I will go!
I know it's said that "you can't please all the people all the time", but what's not to "like" about it?
Perhaps the 41 own cheap Epiphones and if so, what's wrong with that? LOL
Good gear alone does NOT make good music and many a fine tune has been played on an old guitar.
      Thank you again.
      Regards
      Graham

I just got back into recording at home and this video totally opened up the world of my large diaphram condencer mic with my acoustic guitar! I had no idea in the past that the soundhole was causing all of my clarity problems. I was just concerned about getting good levels. I positioned the mic facing across the soundhole pointing at my picking hand and voila! Thanks so much for doing your excellent videos!

I've watched this video a number of times since its release and, as so often happens with this mysterious music journey I'm on, mental notes are taken without me even realizing it. I wrote a song back in 1989, the oldest song I've written, and have always thought it would make a very good country release. I don't particularly like how my vocals sit with it, but I've just sat on it all these years and rarely even perform it during my Friday night set. Anyway, I decided to gather some local musicians and record it in my home studio and release it as a single. I've been laying down the acoustic and electric guitar fills and something was just missing. I remembered the Nashville Tuning you'd mentioned and strung my Taylor Jewel Limited Edition acoustic as a Nashville this evening. Wow, what a difference that makes! I think I found some of what was missing with the opening measures, which must be bright and full. This valuable tuning information you shared is really gonna add that sparkle you mentioned. Again, your generosity within this community and your willingness to share is so very much appreciated, Warren. Be blessed!

Hi Warren, you keep mesmerizing me every time you post a video demonstrating the different ways of recording and mixing tracks. Tricks like the ones you showed with the Nashville are so great, that I bet there wouldn't be a flaw in it, given your thought process which was so evidently shown. Just wanna say that I appreciate the time and effort that you put in to make videos like these in addition to your regular work load. Hope that some day, I get to meet you and even get my songs produced with your creative touch ! God Bless !

This is one of those things, Warren. I often use the example of loaning an old used car or truck to someone. You don't realize how well you know your own vehicle till someone else has to drive it and cannot figure anything out... I couldn't open the gas cap! I could't find the wiper switch! I couldn't adjust the seats! These are all things an owner or vet is familiar with that others are not. This video is perfect in that regard. My guess is that this stuff is all second nature to you and while a bit of it is now after years of trial and error getting there with me, it is extremely helpful to see this done so concisely and basically. For a vet, it might seam simplistic. For a student, invaluable. Please keep doing videos like this. Love them.
