Another densely populated, small island that comes to mind is Migingo Island in Lake Victoria. According to demographics, 131 people lived there in 2009...on an island that's only *.002 squared kilometers* which makes it have a density of 65,500 per squared kilometer. Migingo has been in the middle of a dispute between Kenya and Uganda, where control of it has gone back and forth between each other. While Uganda has admitted the island is on the Kenyan side of Lake Victoria, they don't want Migingo fishermen to illegally fish in Ugandan waters, as they view the Nile perch who live in the lake as economically important.

Never ever have I even heard of this place and now I'm browsing the internet for flight tickets to Columbia thanks to your video, in order to visit this island! Thank you and keep up the good work!
Why would you wanna visit it though, it's just an island favela. I was there a few years ago because the boat company that took us to this other famous island close by tricked us into visiting this one on the way back (stopping the boat there and charging people an entrance fee). They have this open aquarium thingy which is just sad, all the cramped animals in small pools.. Colombia has way better things to visit tbh
Looks to me like it's completely fished out, those fish were so small, sad, the ocean needs to be able to replenish itself, not be decimated. Thanks for sharing this amazing Country.🇦🇺🌈

They are used, they have the basics, they are safe, they have their families, their unique culture... I find harder to believe how much material things many "need" to be happy, and even having it all, still are depressed, lonely, sad... Humanity needs to learn from this kind of societies.
It is insane to me that people live there... I got island fever in Okinawa which can be driven through in an hour. Would feel absolutely trapped in a place you can walk through in a minute
I wish he would have talked about other stuff such as what systems do they use to get rid of human waste, compost toilet? Are most of the people there related? So many different things that left me with questions in my head. Maybe I should go visit.
About 40% of the houses have septic tanks, but that's only for convenience. 100% of the human waste end up in the ocean. 'Hard' trash is boated to a landfill on the nearby island.
I've always wondered what happens in these places during a storm, what with the entire island being so low, and houses so close to the sea...

that's the kind of travel content I really want. going to the most strange and unique places. Thank you so much for this.
PPPeter is totally the kind of guy I would travel with. No pretensions, just get in with the locals and get the experiences. All of my vacations are like this. I don’t go to all the tourist places and fortunately can speak Spanish well enough to enjoy all the local flavor. My wife is always critical that I don’t stop for photos. I live in the moment.
Hopefully they get some form of leadership to organise them to fixing issues on the island because they’ve truly done something amazing.
“It’s very dirty and smelly.” “It’s a perfect society.” 😂
I could not live there BUT i respect this way of life!! It seems like so much fun!!!❤❤
Isn't Migingo Island on Lake Victoria toe most populated per square meter? None the less this is a great video and I really enjoyed watching, it's always great to see how other people make their every day's living work...
I thought so too
You must be really fun at parties.
You just won another subscriber, thanks for the work you put into these series.
I am loving this Latin America series. It's like learning new part of world. Thanks for Sharing with us.❤
honduras has a similar island named Guanaja. it actually caught fire a few years back
I've been here some months ago and I really fell in love with this place and their people 🙈😍

really cool video Peter as always! Si pan :) 💪🇸🇰 Can't wait to see more of Latin America adventures!
Never ever have I even heard of this place and now I'm browsing the internet for flight tickets to Columbia thanks to your video, in order to visit this island!
Thank you and keep up the good work!
Colombia*
Why would you wanna visit it though, it's just an island favela. I was there a few years ago because the boat company that took us to this other famous island close by tricked us into visiting this one on the way back (stopping the boat there and charging people an entrance fee). They have this open aquarium thingy which is just sad, all the cramped animals in small pools..
Colombia has way better things to visit tbh
What enticed you most about Colombia? The donkey rape?
This place reminds me of Venice :) they use boats to get to the hospital and the cemetery too.
I really appreciated this video. Keep up the good work.
Looks to me like it's completely fished out, those fish were so small, sad, the ocean needs to be able to replenish itself, not be decimated. Thanks for sharing this amazing Country.🇦🇺🌈
He called it a “PERFECT SOCIETY “
Wow it would be the last place I would ever visit.
I know and he was pushing off the coral while swimming and fishing, so sad he might have killed it and made the whole situation worse.
At least the government finally banned 'fishing' with dynamite - no kidding.
It would help if you compared it to the most crowded island in the Philippines. We also have the same island as this
This place made me appreciate the places where I grew up.
Wow thank you peter! Amazing video. Didnt even know this island
The legend says....
She set eyes on him and that was it, hooked line and sinkerd, head over heels besotted.
Be still my beating heart.
I lived on kalangala island for a year. The life was great, people were always happy, everyday was about partying but the problem was lack of equipped hospitals and the mainland was like 7 hrs on boat
I feel like everyone is related
Love the series… but seeing the catch of tiny fish and touching corals was 😢
No kidding - at least the government finally banned 'fishing' with dynamite! 😮
man that womans head snapped arround fast when he mentioned no one steals. she's like what what what...
Que divertido haber visto este video de Santa Cruz del islote, tuve la oportunidad de visitar y conocer la isla y la verdad, es que fue fascinante escuchar la historia de los habitantes así mismo como la cuentas, creo que no se escapa ningún detalle en este video
When everyone you know is 2 mins away, you have no choice but to love one another. What a gift.
It's hard to believe that people will live like that when there are other choices.
They are used, they have the basics, they are safe, they have their families, their unique culture... I find harder to believe how much material things many "need" to be happy, and even having it all, still are depressed, lonely, sad... Humanity needs to learn from this kind of societies.
@@luchofelo What about the unsanitary conditions, the bacteria, the disease.
@@9davidlong no hospitals, no cemeteries as well.

EH! No. Plus, you can find a good amount of that in the average African shantytown.

This is such a nice place. I want to visit this island sometime in the future. Its absolutely fascinating and beautiful.
This guy makes it sound kinda sad, But I've visited this lovley island and i can say the people are so nice, there is happiness and love.
It is insane to me that people live there... I got island fever in Okinawa which can be driven through in an hour. Would feel absolutely trapped in a place you can walk through in a minute
This was so interesting. That last part about how long to walk helped it all sink in.
anybody notices the dog peeing at the 2:58 minute mark.
'Hard' trash is boated to a landfill on the nearby island.
crystal clear water.
would be amazing to visit there for a few days trip :))
seems like good people
The fade he accomplished with that razor is nothing short of AMAZING!
