as an expert slav from the balkans, that lady had 0 ill intent and was actually looking out for you. Lights were turned on so people would think you're home, with the key she desperately tried to explain that the key gets jammed in the door and needs to be fixed, so she's making up for it by staying up and guarding the place (likely she can't afford repairs because pensions in the balkans are like 180-200€ per month). The 3rd time she entered the room was to check if everything is still there. You also went to a HOSTEL, not a hotel. In a hostel different groups of people can book the same room and live together. That's what she was trying to explain in the end when you confronted her about the unlocked door again. She expected more people to show up because they booked your room, but they never came. I'm not gonna say it's impossible that people got their items stolen, I'm sure they have gotten around her, but this lady is not to blame and is trying her best to survive from month to month. She just felt humiliated and disrespected.
Exactly. I am from Mendoza, Argentina and many ppl come on long trips from all over the world to test our wine and visit our wineries and most of them stay at hostels. I've been to Monterey, California and stayed at a hostel where I had to share room with another 10 or more ppl. That's a hostel.
Im from Bosnia, and the reason the lady entered your room and turned the lights on is that people there ussualy do that so thiefs would think that somebody is home so they won't robb the house
@@mikatu good explanation not an excuse! The person saying that its an excuse has not been in such a condition that you have to take measures to prevent something like theft. in your comfortable western homes maybe you dont have to do that but in places like these you have to follow some rules, like keeping all the lights on , and maybe some other rules we can not imagine. Think about the lady , she is trying to earn her life and she is saying she had no bad intentions , she was just trying to keep the burglars away maybe
That's also good advice when going to a public swimming pool. You should wear the cheap flip flops everywhere (only go barefoot when you're in the pool).
I'm sorry guys but as far as I know flip flops does not work because if there is fungus or something like that in a bathroom it will go with water and infect you, but at least flip flops give you that something, you know that you are not standing on your bare feet in a filthy shower
16:54 I cannot figure out the first part. But the second part is "....and it would be my fault if someone stole something" . So basically, she was kinda complaining that you left everything out in the open, and if something went missing you would blame her for you not being careful enough. And she is right :D
No, she's not right. It's their fault, when they don't want to put a lock in the door + she said she want stay there whole time, so it isn't possible, that someone would still something without her know :)
@@sotirzvanidjubre4109 oh wow.. I have no comment about who's right or wrong in the vids situation but your comment just caught my attention. So people who don't know how to speak basic english is not allowed to own a hostel now? 🤔
I think the woman isn’t the problem in the hostel. I think she has a good soul. The first time she entered the room, she was just bringing some towels or bedsheets in. I think she was looking at your stuff because you just left it visible on the table and she thought it would be easy for some people in the hostel to steal it. And then some time later she put on the light so nobody would sneak into your room. This hostel may be bad as hell but the old lady isn’t the source of it. She’s just doing her job, I don’t think she owns that place.
yesss i thought the same exact things as well !! when she looked at their stuff i thought it was a lil weird, but then she came back in to turn the lights on and left immediately and i was like ohhh. she prolly turned it on so other guests would assume someone was inside and would be hesitant to enter the room and attempt to steal anything. i doubt she would risk that much especially knowing that this is her establishment. more than that however, she is a human after all who said they could trust her to make sure none of their things get stolen, so i believe she would try to keep her word. i rly think the woman had good intentions : )
Say what you like but if she really had good intentions then she would allow her customers to have access to a locked room. Not offering a locked room is negligent. Surely if she was so concerned about things being stolen then she would get a lock fitted
Haha haha the reviews say it all, people said thing went missing from locked room....that only happens if an employee or the owner is stealing. People also said she stopped being pleasant if you had proof of her stealing. Look the place up you can read the reviews dude.... no reason to go in three times, she felt watched
The thing in bosnian she said was something along the lines of "But the bags are not here" so she knew it was a trap. If they hid the things better she wouldnt be suspicious it was a trap and wouldve stolen stuff.
Ok, she entered the first time because she had a reson to do it, the second time she just turn on the lights and she left, but why she entered the third time? She had no reson.
I felt sad for the old lady... I think she's just concerned about your stuff... that somebody might sneak in and steal your stuff... my grandma would do the same as an act of concern.
yeah, switch the light on to avoid the strange people of the 8 bed room to get the idea to visit it. But she know her business is somehow dirty... and who the fuck are the kind of people living here ?
There was no stealing involved but the fact that she provided terrible service while charging real money is clear as day (false advertising of "private rooms", shared 5-minute, freezing water bathroom, no key, the furniture falling apart....) People here choose to oversee that because lady seems sweet. She might be actually sweet, but her business surely isn't.
@theplayboymaster The fact that she is a jew, has nothing to do with her bad attitude please don't bring anti-simetics saying to the comments, everyone could've acted that way, especially the elderly and the un-educated. we're mostly very kind, and understanding people.
Imagine if: First time she came to bring towels and she noticed that 2 dummies forgot their stuff on the table, so the second time she came in order to switch on the light to make everybody think that there is someone in the room in order to prevent the theft. And the third time she came to check if nothing is stolen

I don't know, call me naive but I do find you being very rude towards the lady and if anything, I find her being genuinely caring. Maybe she lacks management skill but she turned on those lights to make an impression of someone being inside as far as I can understand. Now if I visit bosnia, I will visit her hostel. You did her a solid marketing.
Nah she said the key gets stuck but nobody of the guests will enter the room because she is always in the hall watching right at the doors.. and the reason why she entered the room when they were gone was to check if they didnt bring any drugs ;) because that's illegal and they looked suspicious i suppose
Back in 2016 I visited Croatia, Montenegro, and Bosnia with a friend of mine and we had a great time in those countries. In Sarajevo, we rented a room through Airbnb. The host was an old lady like the one in this video. She was kind, helpful, and sweet. And I must say, after watching this video, I don't think this lady had any ill intentions towards you. She seems to be a nice person as well.
Its possible that the other guests steal from each other if no doors are locked and the guests just blame her. Which may imply that she entered the room multiple times to make sure that nobody was stealing.

(didn't understand what she said while u were gone, it was too muffled) It was so hard to watch the misunderstandings, you really shouldn't travel around the Balkans this much without a local! (Yes, even when in big cities) There are so many things I want to say about this experience... First, what were you expecting from a hostel in the first place? Those don't come with private rooms... (as others have already highlighted) When she greeted you she overconfidently said there weren't any bookings, I assume she doesn't usually handle the tech since she doesn't know english, and it's definitely their fault for, but I don't blame her confusion for wanting a private room after she fixed it and provided accomodation anyway;; As others have already translated, she explained the key gets stuck in the door and then they can't get it out/open, then explained she usually uses a chair to barricade her own door and that will work for you too The going in and out of the room seems to be out of habit for her, since she was in charge of everything that night from what I could tell, also it's something my old aunt does too for example, moving around and checking on things, maybe she had spare time on her hands, and also keeping the light on so someone would think you're there I hate that the language barrier caused so many problems by the end, she took what you wrote as very accusatory and just wanted the trouble to end because nothing bad had happened to you I don't want to make you out as the villain bc they shouldn't be running this place for tourists without english knowledge, but I feel more sorry for them (at least the old lady) that have to live in those conditions and make the most of what they've got. Chipped paint, everything old and breaking and no wifi or even warm water... reminds me alot of my own city, at least parts of it (Zagreb)
Actually most of the hostels have private rooms. And they have to have a private key. A place being a hostel doesn't mean it has to be a crappy place. *As a hostel owner with 8.9/10 rating in Hostelworld (in İzmir/Türkiye), I can say that I heard some very bad stories from my guests about cheaper hostels. And this place can be in the top 10 worst hostel list. An accommodation place being a hostel doesn't mean that it should be bad. I understand the lady is trying to earn some money, and as she does, she has to give some of that money to maintenance. The place doesn't look dirty actually, but the situation about the bathroom is a disgrace. It can be that, that floor can have only one bathroom and it is costly to build another one. BUT for Gods sake, at least put a lock on that bathroom door !!! How costly it can be to call someone and just put a lock on the door!!! *I believe she is innocent about stealing things and because of the shared rooms, especially in capital city hostels, stealing happens sometimes. (In our hostel it happens once in the beginning, but we had caught the thief luckily.) But her attitude towards the maintenance in her place makes her quiet suspicious about the theft situation. And she HAS TO find some helper that speaks English. You can run an airbnb place with just a single room without speaking no English, but to have so many guests, without speaking any English, how can you help them properly???
acutally zagreb was absolutely fine even back in 2012 and i dont speak croatian at all. that being said the general lack of english knowledge is a serious problem all across eastern and southern europe (and the unwillingness to speak it in germany france and other crappy western european countries).
As a Balkan, I had a thought about this woman. She reminded me of my grandma, and my thought was that if my grandma had been forced to turn her house into a hostel, she would have been noisy af too. She would too want to know what kind of people are staying in HER rooms, in HER house. ;) This woman here is too old and inexperienced to have hotel management mentality.

You shouldn't because a hostel to function needs to meet some requirements. Making people to shower with cold water in dirt is a reason to cancel the licence. Even with the bad reviews the hostel has guests that means there some money to be invested in better conditions for guests. Maybe some employees in cleaning and reception departments. In our culture, old ladies like to to enter their children's rooms so that see if there's anything that they need to clean, if everything is safe and so on. I don't know how to explain something to an American where there is no such thing. Our mums also like to call us all the time, ask several times if we want to eat more and so on. She was advertising private rooms and there was none Now I dont know from what country are you from but in many proper countries there are hostels with dormitories but also with private rooms Also she should have said from the beginning that she was lying about the room and offer them, their money back And another thing, when you advertise that you have wifi, you can't just give the hostel's next door one(that wasnt really working anyway) After that noone gives a damn about the lady, she was wrong from the beginning Greedy bitch Well done Peter, confront them
You're completely wrong. If you book a PRIVATE room in a hostel on Booking or Hostelworld or anywhere else, you don't share it with anyone. Only bathroom and common area are shared. What you're talking about is a SHARED room, those are always clearly stated. Learn the difference.
@@dillon17 Loads of shit for no reason? She kept knocking on the door to get out of the shower, which had no hot water. Doors don't lock, in every shared room hostel I've been to, I get a room key, every person staying there does. You don't just leave open doors and your stuff around, that is absurd.
@@misodesu2235 maybe one should have his own key chain with them a hammer and a screwdriver to sleep there. I like to feel safe,I'm not sure I would go to that hotel at all. If I had others to select from.
Let's see if the lady actually wanted to steal your stuff: - There have been a lot of people who got stolen at her place. - She entered the room three times, one for your laundry and to get a peek at your stuff, second to switch on the light, third we don't know. - Said something in bosnian that supposedly goes like "their bags are not here". Now, out of these two, which is the most feasible scenario? - The lady first checks if you have something worth stealing, then actually tries her best so that you don't get robbed by turning on the lights to fake that you're still in the room. - The lady tries to rob you by not taking anything and turning on the lights to make others think you're still home? Still probably one of the worst hotels in Europe, but you actively tried to make it look even worse for the show. Just saying.
why woudlnt she give them the key, she said in video we dont lock for other guests, but they payed for a private room, if you book a room you are paying for privacy and a key atleast, she looks shady to me
@@TLZlessons she said that the key gets stuck in the lock. Yes they did pay for a private room, which was probably false marketing (quite common in Bosnia). She seemed like a typical Bosnian lady, and to me it seemed like she actually tried to be helpful. And yes the place was a dump.

Yes i was going to say that! And i was going to also point out, that she is right, there is a lot of nonsense on the internet. Someone is more likely to write a bad review than a good one.
In the voice clip thing she was talking to someone outside and said "Tasne nisu tu", that means "the bags arent here", def was scanning the place for the gear

as an expert slav from the balkans, that lady had 0 ill intent and was actually looking out for you.

It was so hard to watch the misunderstandings, you really shouldn't travel around the Balkans this much without a local! (Yes, even when in big cities)
There are so many things I want to say about this experience... First, what were you expecting from a hostel in the first place? Those don't come with private rooms... (as others have already highlighted) When she greeted you she overconfidently said there weren't any bookings, I assume she doesn't usually handle the tech since she doesn't know english, and it's definitely their fault for, but I don't blame her confusion for wanting a private room after she fixed it and provided accomodation anyway;;
As others have already translated, she explained the key gets stuck in the door and then they can't get it out/open, then explained she usually uses a chair to barricade her own door and that will work for you too
The going in and out of the room seems to be out of habit for her, since she was in charge of everything that night from what I could tell, also it's something my old aunt does too for example, moving around and checking on things, maybe she had spare time on her hands, and also keeping the light on so someone would think you're there
I hate that the language barrier caused so many problems by the end, she took what you wrote as very accusatory and just wanted the trouble to end because nothing bad had happened to you
I don't want to make you out as the villain bc they shouldn't be running this place for tourists without english knowledge, but I feel more sorry for them (at least the old lady) that have to live in those conditions and make the most of what they've got.

A handyman to paint that doors? A little bit of interest and making things better? A little bit of respect for the guests? I work in tourism for almost 12 years and that's just unacceptable! No excuse! Students all over the world are working part time jobs to afford a vacation, they shouldn't be treated like that.
This is bosnia. Nobody drive there with the licence
@Dimas Putra have a heart but also a brain, the entrance in the hostel is intended to be like an abandoned building with no business sign, so no authorities can identify that as a place of business. The old lady as a receptionist also intended for melting hearts reason, no English speaking also intended so even you complain will be nobody to answer. And so on. What if you would stay there and your belongings would be stolen? Still heartbroken for the old lady?
@@iedenchannel Oh wow, my grandma owns a hostel, we have that hostel for more than 20 years now, we have that business for extra income, students, professionals, families stayed in our place for years, a hostel is not a hotel so people don't expect that it's a comfortable place; and most hostels are old buildings owned by an old citizen that's why at times place like these was disregard in the community; but hospitality is guaranteed, the hostel is just a lodging house where you can hide for a night if you're working in tourism you should know about this, and to be honest, ours is worse than this one, but why are people love to stay here? Peter was sticking on the negative side of this place because of the old reviews or false accusations people invented against this lady, and if you're sensitive enough, she's an old lady, she's guarding that place 24/7; in her age, she shouldn't work though and she needs assistance to run the place. The place may not that hundred percent clean, but what I appreciate about this old lady is she's making sure that her customers' items are safe, never judge a person by what people say. Peter experienced differently so, he should thank her at least for doing her job, showing the negative reviews was unnecessary. And to let you know this place has given 5 stars lately, clearly, this lady was just misunderstood by people.

My family did this all the time, heck we even switched on the radio whenever we left the house for hours so no thieves would try to break in.
Probably went back the third time just to check and see if anything was stolen. Yeesh. I know that the place is "run down" and not in such "good condition" but based on comments I've seen from other Bosnians, their pensions aren't much, and she's just trying to survive. Every balkan knows that she was just trying to be nice.
You come to a country that dealt with war and pay as little as 20 Euro for a room and running water and you belittle them. Wow.
Excellent comment! I feel sad that people don't get it and also make fun of her...
Exactly! He acts like an "Eastern European" but he is far away from being one. This video proves that. Shout out to the real Balkan G's 😜💪
Going thru a war has absolutely nothing to do with anything. It gives her the right to be a disgusting thief?
@@mrheal420 accussing someone of a crime which she had not committed. Way to go. 🤯🤯
@@jenchino1924 but clearly people have been robbed you can't deny that.
I’m a Balkan and we turn on lights in our house to make an impression that someone is there!!
NO MATE I LIVE IN ASIA RICE POWER
@@sethzimmerman7601 from Asia too, and shut the fuck up! you're being a jerk
@@sethzimmerman7601 pls specify where in Asia like saying "East Asia"🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️. Our culture is diverse.
Thumbs up if you want Peter to apologies to this old woman. She want to make sure that your stuff is safe. If you keep cheap hostel many suspicious people will stay there and they are usually still things one from another, not this old lady. I know you want some story for your video but I think she does not deserve this attitude. Other than this your video is great keep on doing!
also it's not ok to film and post without her permission...
i was thinking what if she was trying to protect their stuffs since nothing was missing....poor lady got a bad rep
@@Freakopac yes and they could not even communicate properly because they were not speaking the same language, why would they go to try and damage the business of someone that clearly does not have more money to improve it... I can 100% say that if she could she would have.
@GrayMan Well but then it means that she needs to have multiple key copies and that is extra money, it can also mean that some people can take the key and not give it back, also because she is old could be that she feels that if the people know they don't have intimacy they will not vandalize or do other stuff... so that way she keeps them in check.
@Sofa King "Sofa King" lol go get another corn dog and shut up menso
Harassing an obviously honest old lady with comically obvious set - ups. What a valuable service you are providing to humanity.
Still this video only here is more valuable service to humanity than you will ever be.
Obvious troll
You should definitely do a season 2, these are very enjoyable to watch.
Right
Agree
Dying
so it is enjoyable to see an old lady getting blamed when she didn’t do anything wrong?
@@AlexYazanGames i was about to say that
Peter you got this one wrong! Maybe this place deserves a low review but this isn't a thief. This an old lady trying to survive
She said: 'ne mozete key dobit za te pare"
That means: u cant get a key for this amount of money
@Dania Linkon Your comment makes sense.
Yeah, because if she doesn't steal anything for this amount of money, how can she pay the Wifi... Oh true.
"Imagine if:
First time she came to bring towels and she noticed that 2 dummies forgot their stuff on the table, so the second time she came in order to switch on the light to make everybody think that there is someone in the room in order to prevent the theft. And the third time she came to check if nothing is stolen."
Was thinking the same thing.
True
Exactly
But she didn't tell Peter that, when he asked her about it..
@@melissa-5670 Peter didn't respect her as an old woman, he just wanted to accuse her of something that is not a crime. On the other side, Peter doesn't speak her language and she was wiser as him because she avoided a non sense conflict
I mean, I get it. She entered your room 3 times. But I am really sorry for her. You confronted her like a freaking thief, and most of time she probably didn't know what are you saying. She clearly was trying to keep your stuff safe. Hope the fortune will find her, because that video shows how poor those people are.
very poor
very poor yes very poor
WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE LIVING IN FUCKING SETTLEMENT
THEY HAVE 250 EURO OR LESS OF THE PAYMENT
i mean other reviews say different they say she a thief!
She said there bags are not here
Exactly what I said..

This is like saying "yeah cancer, but what about people with ebola?"
Just because there are poorer people out there doesn't mean we have to attack less poor ones

"A private room for 2 people!" says Peter "Super." says the lady as she points at the bunk beds of a public room.
