Hola you two, another great video. We live off grid, and it's people like you doing You tube that make it the joy that it is. Over 20 years we appreciate every improvement that makes our life easier & more comfortable, and in our 70's now we can't imagine living any other way. Love & hugs ❤️

Thanks a lot, it’s quite an immersive experience and we are so happy to get such positive support as we share our experiences. Onwards and upwards!

Shame we weren’t there to help with the roof . Wow what a wonderful well. With that water you could hopefully grow a lot and make your trees happy in a brought . See you in the autumn xxx

We would have done it in half the time with your help, but then would not have the content for this week’s episode. Swings and roundabouts. Water management is on the agenda for next trip so hold tight, there may be some work on.

I would not worry about making too much noise in the morning, the neighborhood dogs are taking care of the morning noise for sure. It looks like you have a deep well. That is good for fire season. Where are you building your house on your property? I hope away from the road.

Thanks a lot, yes, pretty happy and quite optimistic with the water position once we get a bit of clearing done on the well. We plan to rebuild the house around what is there and keep some of the old stone features if we can. The road is very quiet, most traffic is dog walkers!

You could have the water tested if you watch Frankie off grid they have done that after cleaning and covering their well it’s been fairly successful although they do have a substantial filtering system good luck

Yes, we were thinking of going down the same path, just need to track down a lab near us.

Thank you, this is one of the biggest 'add-ons' we have made - very satisfying to be moving forwards. Come back next week for the conclusion.

    This is great to watch.
I would say however, about the well, that you can clear the old water hoist machinery yourself, if you wanted to. You'll then be able to see better what to do next.
This just needs a wooden frame built over the top, and a simple block and tackle hoist to raise the weight of the old metal. Make sure you have enough height in the temporary hoist to swing the metal to one side - or to cut it apart if you choose that route.
(To use the water in future, you'll presumably have an electric pump.)
For sure, a digger taking the weight from above, like a crane, would achieve the same thing.
Also, if there's a good spring/water supply feeding the local water table, then you'll need quite a powerful pump to get the well dry for cleaning work. Is that actually necessary? I'm guessing you aren't hoping for drinking water quality.
We also have to wonder how they first built this well? Ladders aren't usually that long.
And how far down is the tree? That's potentially a problem, with its roots breaking the structure of your well.
Good luck with this, but what a fun project.

Thanks a lot, you make some interesting points. The digger is coming for other work so we will try to get them to spend an extra hour on the well. That should be ok. The spring source seems quite strong so I’m with you on the pumping out. We get our drinking water from a public spring which I think is off the upstream source of our well. We also have a stream from it further down the hill.
The tree is the biggest question, and there are specialist contractors who will go down on ropes or ladders to sort it out. Fingers crossed it can be removed enough to not grow back when we put a block and beam cover over it. Then a submersible pump and we have secondary water off grid as we hoped for in the beginning. Exciting times.
