Very Very cool. I got 48 cubic yards of wood chips from the freeze cleanups going on here in Texas.

Can you do this in a pressure cooker? Or is the velocity into the vacuum chamber really necessary?

There was steam coming from the pile 3 days after the chips arrived. I shoveled some out and fungus was already growing, a hazey white like cotton candy. But i think it ran out of moisture.

still experimenting but the acid hydrolysis should be able to be done in the pressure cooker. Otherwise yes the steam cracking is required. Obviously though the acid hydrolysis risks corroding the metal and causing a obvious issue. Still experimenting and figuring things out though idk anything. Imo in your case best to just wet it and let the mushrooms properly break it down.

@@Rowow i bet a Fresnel lens or parabolic mirror could heat and an arduino could measure the temp to release the spigot valve at the optimal temp. Good use of extra solar and would make it actually free instead of buying fuel.

So just to mention I found that pigs will eat fresh wood chips from young tree's with out doing anything to them. The bark and sap wood is high in nutrients.

yes ive noticed that too they will dig up the roots and chew on it squeezing out the juices. However they are only doing it for the sap but leaving the ligno-cellulose fibers behind.

I think those valves you used have plastic seals in them and those would probably burn/melt and leak into the product.
What temp are you targeting on the steam vessel? I would think you could just stick it over a simple gas stove burner to have a better controlled heat.

the steam has to be 250c. The seals I think are ptfe which is tolerant up to 260c. I agree though that theres better methods to heat I burnt the handles a bit while doing this haha. Im currently just experimenting and trying to figure out what works more, not sure which route I want to take. Building a CNC bridgeport so that should help with alot.
