The same is done in Suriname in Neiw Amsterdam, the Dutch settlements are opened to the public along with the burial ground for viewing. The houses are also opened I think. The best part is there's no fee attached for this except when you travel by boat to get there.and you tell the coast guard you're there for touring.
We have graveyards and whole reenactments created around civil war in many locations across the US. Having a location that teaches us about the history isn't a real ethics problem in consideration.
As a Guyanese this is absolutely horrendous. In college I wrote a 20 page paper about this tragedy. I. Read the FBI transcripts and spoke with psychiatrists that interviewed survivors. Leave them in peace. I wrote the paper because back then, in the 90s that's all people knew of Guyana. These were Americans in a doomsday cult. This is not a moment to exploit.
Guyana has been desperately pushing tourism for many years and still not getting it off the ground. First they promoted as Eco tourism which failed as there are no proper facilities in the hinterland. Then they have ago-tourism. That too failed. Now its Jonestown. What they should do is bring the hotel prices down and make the destination not only affordable but cheap. Why not build a hotel in kaieteur park...??
Are they stupid or what 900 and something people died there how tf is that a tourist attraction I'm from Guyana myself and I'm telling u no body wants that PERIOD
No no no no no. Over night who. Are these people serious. Some things are better kept closed, have respect for the families of the victims. Tourists who. This is crazy. Crazy.
This will bring in a lot of money the Jonestown place. Another place that will bring in a lot of money is to renovate the Rosehall plantation and put in old time furniture, maybe import them from the US of England and furnish the place like the time the indentured laborers would come in also import pictures. People would want that it's all a part of ancient history.
Personally I am not in favor of this at all. Having mentioned that I do understand how some people will be fascinated by such a visit. For$ 650 U.S. I would sooner visit a few nice beaches and outdoor restaurants.
Over night experience, how long will it be before a ghost hunting team goes there, it's disrespectful but I can understand why someone would want to visit such a place, it's man's morbid curiosity 🤎 from 🏴
This is very insulating to the Guyanese people, yes it is history but it is also the type of history that will resonate negitivally worng with the ill minded people and as for the positive persons I don't think as a guyanese i would like to walk back the journey of such dynamic drastic massacre. Also it is not the best prospective that this is what our country should be reminded for, cause honestly if i to leave this country to another and someone was to approch me and say we got to be careful of you cause you came from the country of jonestown massacre, I'll automatically feel freak-out, like i have to watched my back and be very careful or mindful. This is the type of history that i personally think is supposed to be buried just like the innocent souls that past thourgh that horrific ordeal.
Are you serious? What's this tourism Jones town? Allow me but whoever is responsible for this marketing strategy kindly show some respect for the people who died there. Now I recommend a heritage site so as not to forget and allow our future generations to know what happened there. My opinion ☮️🇬🇾
It is very important that finally this place would be open 🙌 so the realities of life can be better examined in order for us to get a firmer grip on such that occurred, it is a prime necessity to face these things openly.
Tourist destination? Maybe a memorial site would be more respectful and appropriate to the victims memory.
Tourist destination is fitting.
Cia operation...was to put down movement in America.. certain kind of movement I don't to mention.. google ears

Is something called dark tourism, there’s a mini series on Netflix that explains more in depth how it works
As a child of parents who attended the People's Church, this is just creepy, but then so is "tourism" to any place of death.
We have graveyards and whole reenactments created around civil war in many locations across the US. Having a location that teaches us about the history isn't a real ethics problem in consideration.

Is your paper published? As a Guyanese I’d love to read it.

As a Guyanese I wouldn’t approve this @ all, this is one of the gruesome thing as ever Guyana 🇬🇾 SMH 🤦🏽
I wouldn’t recommend the churros or flavored drinks.

Disrespectful to EVER charge people to visit a site of a massacre, let alone making it a tourist hotspot. Anyone else a little mad?

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER, ANOTHER WAY FOR THE GOVERMENT TO FULL THIER POCKETS
Explain how the government full their pockets when the tours are being done by a private tour operator?
That is flat-out trash!
Where did NBC get this news from
I live in Guyana and haven't heard anything like this.........
Last time I saw a documentary the jungle had over ran the place
We are the last to hear about any developments 😮
Why
For people who love kool-aid.
The CIA wild for this one.
This is evil. Just evil to even think this could be a tourist destination.
Disrespectful😤 I guess it’s all about the money
.......🙄😮💨 why?
For people who love kool-aid.
Absolutely bad idea! Leave this place alone and let those poor spirits rest in peace😢

Anything to make a buck , so sad
I think that place has plenty bad memories for those who lost love ones , I said NO to tourism

Why don't they ever tell jokes about Jonestown? Because the punchline is too long.
".... George ! George ! George of the Jungle ! Watch up on the tree ! ..." 🙂👏👏👏🇺🇲
Whatever you do, don't drink the Kool-Aid!
My first thought was opening a Limonade Stand
It wasn't kool aid it was flourer aid cool aid
Over night experience, how long will it be before a ghost hunting team goes there, it's disrespectful but I can understand why someone would want to visit such a place, it's man's morbid curiosity 🤎 from 🏴
What are they going see is there a building to tour?
Nah, that's morbid
Don't drink the complimentary kool-aid.

They are people who will pay the price to visit especially the victim’s family and friends. It’ll be interesting.
"Gweeyana" How difficult is it to pronounce Guyana (Guy-ana)?
Better serve me some Kool Aid when I visit
Im booking my tour as i type
Are you serious? What's this tourism Jones town? Allow me but whoever is responsible for this marketing strategy kindly show some respect for the people who died there. Now I recommend a heritage site so as not to forget and allow our future generations to know what happened there. My opinion ☮️🇬🇾
Um...
Okay........
OVERNIGHT???? Nawwwwwwww i dont think so
Think I will pass on this one.
Memorial we can all learn from, people could be fooled and let to death.
Does this episode foreshadow the next trump administration?
Venezuela need to reclaim essequibo, since Guyana can't bridge themself to it.
Tell them to feed their people first
Venezuela can't feed themselves
The proposed snack bar will feature grape 🍇 Kool Aid you can drink??? 🤔🤔🤔
The real ones know they will go authentic with the grape flavor aid 🍇
There’s nothing to see…it’s all overgrown back into Jungle.
It is very important that finally this place would be open 🙌 so the realities of life can be better examined in order for us to get a firmer grip on such that occurred, it is a prime necessity to face these things openly.
What hapen to the 2 Bomb. You trow on Japan people. Isn't that. Terrible also
