Great guide. I've just booked at Fira, attracted by its centre-ness, liveliness, and transport hubiness. Kamari was my second choice, but I felt that that would over-complicate my bus-trips around the island.
This was a great video and really helped with our accommodation choices. We are planning on spending seven nights split between Fira and Kamari in early October. Would you have advice on how many nights to spend at each and which way to do it? Beach first and then Caldera or other way around? Much appreciated
Probably best to take 4 nights on the caldera first and visit the various towns along the rim. You can't go wrong either way. Given the majestic caldera views, probably best to start there. Also, that'll leave the opportunity to come back from the beach again if you choose. Enjoy.
HI Dave, excellent presentation. Would you recommend booking perhaps 1 year in advance to save some money or it really doesn't matter? Second, I would like to avoid going when its windy. Based on your experience, which months have the strongest winds?
9 or 10 months in advance is perfect. At one year not all hotel rooms will be in the system so it might look fully booked, when that's not the case. Waiting until 6 months prior and you will start to encounter hotels being booked-out or certain rooms gone. July and August are the windiest months. I usually find the wind refreshing and cooling in the high summer heat. But on rare occasions it can be windy enough to disrupt plans.
I’m going this September and I’m unsure about where to stay for the best beaches : would you say Kamari is better or stay 3 nights in Kamari but also in another town ? (Thanks)
Hey Dave, I’m looking for a last minute holiday to Greece in October, we want to see some archaeological sites and also visit some beaches and different islands, not sure on renting a car tho, a bit apprehensive. What location would you recommend for this 😊
Fira will have the most open and will still be surprisingly lively. Oia will be the second most busy with still plenty open but definitely starting to feel a bit deserted. It's a great time to visit to see the sights and explore the caldera and views.
Awesome thank you so much! I'm a mom and going with my 10 yr old, so makes me nervous to stay in an area with not much food options. We have a reservation in Oia, but still have time to cxl and book Fira if necessary. Thanks again for the inside scoop.@@SantoriniDaveHQ
It's a great time for sightseeing. Water will still be too cold to swim for most people. But some years, the weather can be pretty warm and a few people will be in the water at the end of April.
Hi! We are 6 adults (2 moms and 4 adult girls) traveling to Greece for the first time and love your videos for tips and advice on what to do! We want to spend 3 nights in a luxury hotel in Santorini as a treat and right now are booked in Katikies Chromata. It doesn't come up on your ratings as one of the best luxury ones to stay in - is it in an awkward location? What advance or knowledge do you have about that? Our must-list is it is in the caldera, has sunset views, and an infinity pool! Rewatching all your videos to absorb the information - we love how you give such constructive helpful advice! For 6 nights in Santorini, where would you pick the second destination to be after we do the first 3 nights in a luxury hotel?
Katikies Chromata is a fantastic hotel, one of the best in Santorini, just steps from some of the island’s greatest restaurants, the landmark Skaros Rock, and with panoramic sunset caldera views, especially from rooms on the higher floors. Staying on the caldera in Imerovigli for three nights will give you time to absorb and appreciate the caldera and landscape. For a change in pace, moving south into Fira for the next few nights - a great home base for exploring the eastern beaches, archaeological site, or the wine country, all within a short taxi or bus ride away. Or head north to Oia for luxury shopping, iconic blue-domed churches, and the charming port of Ammoudi Bay.
@@SantoriniDaveHQ Thank you for your response! So helpful. Would you say Katikies Chromata will give the caldera views or the sunset, or is the one of the few hotels where you see both? I watched your video where you said that in Oia, you have to choose either the caldera views or the sunset, but I thought this hotel had both so I would love your input on that! Your videos are so helpful!
Hello, great informative videos. My wife and I are planning to visit Santorini next March. I checked availability on every place you suggested in Oia and Imerovigli via Expedia and they all said sold out?!? Are they maybe just not open during late March? Hard to believe they would already be sold out a year in advance. thanks.
It's a little too early to book for next year. Hotels put their rooms online about 9 to 10 months in advance. Check again in May or early June. That said, it's possible that not all hotels will be open for March - though most will be.
Hi Dave, Do you know anything about this new hotel in Oia named "hom santorini". I have been trying to find out some information on it but can't seem to get anything.
Yep, staying in a luxury hotel in Oia in May costs a lot. On our site, we've got many recommendations for hotels that aren't so high end too. Check santorinidave.com/santorini

Naxos and Santorini. If late October into November then do Crete.
Hi! In which area of the island do you recommend staying in the winter (end of November)? Thanks!

what do you recommend for a family with a 2 year old ?
Aria Suites in Fira. Nice big pool deck with caldera views. But not right on the cliff. Suites are large.

How do the people move the furniture if there are no ways for cars??

Where would I stay in Fira that doesn’t have so many stairs?
Atlantis Hotel and Aressana Spa Hotel & Suites are both on the main pedestrian path and have no (or very few) steps.
Very helpful thanks Dave, what are the restaurants prices like for 2 adult meals ?
There's a huge range of costs, everything from 20€ to 100€ and up.

Hi dave your fira video is incorrect views shown is oia not firi as in your video
Hi Tony. Could you be more specific about what scene or view you're talking about. Cheers.
Greetings from: Rotterdam, Holland, EU, NATO/ OTAN!
Perivolas in Oia is 20k for 3 nights in May. Mate you need to give better budget friendly accomodations not celebrity accomodations.
