one really important aspect of rechargable timers is that, when the battery stops holding a charge, you have to disassemble it and replace it or buy a new one, which isn't easy for something that isn't made at a scale like laptops or phones, while normal batteries mean that the timer will last until the bats corrode the sockets (if left untouched for years) or if the timer itself breaks from use, the pcb solders break or something like that.
Where's the mention of the cheaper Qiyi Timer (the gray one)? It has all the basic functionalities of a Gen4 at less than half the price. Plus, I personally found it to be much more durable and consistent than the G5 (one of the wires in my G5 literally snapped).
Honestly the original gan smart timer (black or silver ones) are my favorite timer; they have a really solid feel, can connect to bluetooth, and have also dropped in price recently ($16 in some places iirc?). Usually I bring two to every comp since the bluetooth feature is really useful to connecting to a phone. edit: forgot to mention that the reset button is also really big and easy to press so you can reset times really quickly; accidental resets are also not a problem becusse you can't reset times while the timer is running.
Lol just month ago start my journey into timers world, coz in my country speed stack is unobtainable. Finally video that cover all main timers in 1 video.
My favorite has to be the blue Gan timer. It has Bluetooth, it’s very nice design, it has LGB that you can change to what colors you like, it calculates your average of five, and I’ve had it for about a year now and I have dropped it on tile so many times but all it has is a few unnoticeable scratchs, and it charges very fast, overall a amazing timer.
I'm using the gan halo and I can say that it's the best because of it's features, compactibility and convenience as you won't need to buy batteries over and over
I have the previous-generation Gan timer and really like it. I have thought about upgrading to the newest Gan timer, but the color annoys me. Give me the last generation's black and charcoal grey option, and I'd be sold.
Whenever i hear that you can only use some features with an app, i treat it as though it doesn't exist when deciding to buy or not. Being able to interface with the gan timer without needing an app means the Bluetooth features won't become obsolete from neglect
0:22 Phil- Timers are really important because this is what is used in official WCA competitons Also Phil- More non speedstacks timers than actual speedstack
It’s about time

But it's not official hardware, and it can create bad habits for competition

The QY timer looks like a giant pregnancy test

This is true, but you should get about 8,000 hours of use before the battery life gets noticeably worse
Great vid Phil! BTW am soon getting the Qiyi timer.
Note that the gan timer also does the ao5 on device

It’s a shame that the non-smart Qiyi timer isn’t in this vid. It’s a great timer for a cheap price.
