@@benjohnsoncreativeA curious question: Are there people over eighty years of age who are very elderly people who own and will use modern smart phones???
Awesome vlog/showcase of this monster vlogging setup. I'm coming from a ZVE-10 so have some ptsd from ultra shaky sony footage. I have a Pocket 2 and love the stability but the image quality/colors I definitely wouldn't mind improving. Curious, how do you think it compares to using a Pocket 3 or a ZVE-1 (with the dynamic stabilization)? Also if you don't mind - at 4:28 when you're pointing at the river and it's shaking a little - was that in Active Stabilization mode or just normal?
I’ve used them all, and I like them for different reasons. 1. Pocket 3 is amazing and would highly recommend I think you’d like it the most personally. Where it struggled is photos 2. ZVE1 is fantastic, but personally I dislike the lack of mode dials and EVF so for me it just didn’t quite fit 3. A6700 I’ve been using because I’ve been enjoying the more raw candid feel of shakier handheld footage as compared to the pocket 3. It feels more personal and less produced. Both have their place tho Here’s a vid where I used both the a6700 and pocket 3 together as the only cameras in the video, it will give you a good sense of the handheld vs stable ua-cam.com/video/KLb_q-ZI2UI/v-deo.htmlsi=m9NgOsP7SKNJO-hz
First we go for the biggest most technical camera there is, then back off to a APS-C sensor? Yeah I’m using 360 ace pro a lot, because people go crazy when I pull out a pro video setup.
Hi Ben! I'd love to get more into vlogging. But I always struggle with exposure when doing low effort run and gun stuff. What settings do you run on? I'd love to use the EV meter instead instead of full manual. Something like f1.8 + iso and shutter on auto or something. What do you do? Cheers
In this video is ran aperture priority with auto iso for most of it (I did 1.8 aperture and then shutter and iso are auto. It will break the shutter rule, but you get the convenience of auto exposure) Then in certain scenarios if the camera isn’t getting it right, you can switch to manual and adjust if needed You could also pair it with a variable ND filter to help the shutter not have to go crazy high when outdoors
@@benjohnsoncreative that’s exactly what I was looking for mate. Thank you! Metering mode full frame or center? So helpful!! You should make a video on that tbh. I’m also considering it. May buy an FX30 or A6700 just to “prove the masses wrong” 😑 - I’m so tired of everyone focusing on shutter rule, NDs, full manual, GMaster, etc.
Viltrox 13 looks dope (haven’t used it yet) but my opinion so far is that I think I’d like that one better as a talking head studio lens, and the 11 better as a vlog lens. The 11 is such a great width for vlogging. Keep in mind when using active stabilization the image crops in, which is why the 11 takes it for me for vlog. For other things the 13 is great tho, and you can vlog with it as well. I just prefer the 11 look personally.
Great setup, I do find the 11mm just a tad wide, I prefer 12mm, or even 13mm - that Viltrox 13mm sure gives an incredible image, but is quite a bit heavier. Great to have all these options :)
Thanks for the video! I have the Sony E 10-20mm f/4 lens that I like a lot. Mostly use it for B-roll with a gimbal and it works great. Nevertheless, I have my eye set on that 11mm. Your video really shows off how good that lens is. Also, I just wanted to comment on how good the audio sounded. It does not sound like it's generated from an on camera mic. Your auto focus test was outstanding! One question → Did you use the Active Steady Shot any?
The a6700 is objectively superior in every way. The literal ONLY plus about the ZV is the in body mic is slightly better. Most people use an external mic, though, so it's pretty irrelevant, and it's not like the a6700 mic is UNUSABLE. It's just that is only forward directional while the ZV is omni directional. If you think of it like a phone, the zv is basically the basic version, and the a6700 is the ultra version. It's essentially just a stripped down a6700. If there was like a $400+ difference, I could see why someone might choose the ZV, but around the same price range there is zero reason to not go a6700. In the US, the ZV ii is $1000 and the 6700 is $1400.
I’ve got a video on that as well: ua-cam.com/video/fgPoQnn2NVg/v-deo.htmlsi=QOZngyjoM2U9Plss Both are great options. I like the Sony A6700 better for vlogging
Thank your for this vlog! This setup would have been perfect with Dynamic Active Stabilization. Image quality, lens fov, even audio all is usable. But with this extreme stuttering while walking despite all the IBIS and cropping, the joy of watching goes down the drain very quickly. Your editing and filming while standing or sitting made it a great vlog. As there is no small Sony 16mm ff, even with the zve1 no real vlogging device or combination from Sony exists at all. Hopefully in 2025 they will improve upon this topic. Till then this arena is left to DJI and Insta360 with mediocre image quality.
i was bit confused between sigma 16mm and sony 11mm i got the same camera body as yours ....i think i should go for 11mm ..thank you for making a video .....(wish you could have done some photography shoot as well could have helped) .......love from india
Yeah def a little punchy at times, lots of environmental noise in spots of the video especially near the flowing creek haha, just the nature of vlogging out and about in uncontrolled spots
It’s a great Sony camera with a ton of features and good price….man those Tacos looked good! Love those M1 mics! No cables, small size so good! Very curious what is coming out in the next month from Sony….might try and get a budget setup and go to town on a cheap setup like this. Great video!

Did you use steadyshot for the video?
Would you recommend the Sony a6700 for talking head videos as well ?

Thanks so much! Appreciate the encouragement
How do you do your b Rolls??
If you use aperture as a priority, what Frame rate do you set in post-production?
Final video is usually 24fps. I’ll shoot in 24fps for normal speed video, and 60 or 120 for slow motion
@benjohnsoncreative i live in Australia. Will it matter if I choose NTSC rather than using PAL ?
