I’m 60 Joe never meet Billy, my cousin introduced me to his drumming when I was 11 in 71 been a fan ever since. Believe it or not I meet the woman I was going to marry of course I didn’t know at the time because she is 4 years older then myself 😂, she introduced me to so many jazz fusion bands in the summer of 76, that’s when I started making my moves on her even though she was dating some guy at the time. Anyway we she would take me to live jazz concerts and that’s when I saw Billy for first time live oh boy he was electrifying on those Drums. Yes we’re still married, still enjoying life with her after 5 children and 3 grandchildren. We plan on driving our almost restored 65 mustang coupe from Detroit to Southern California and driving the Pacific Coast line listing to Jazz to Washington state to some live jazz concert she has planned out for Us. Oh and know children or grandchildren this is going to be a wild time buddy, I plan on making that way lol, 289 Hi-Po 600 plus horses with a C-6 Trans and 3,500 stall converter which She has know idea I’ve had all this done to the drivetrain, wait until it starts up lol lmao. Rumbling Cam and Jazz fusion playing perfect combination for many road trips like this one👍🏾
Been hearing this tenth pin since it came out as a little bean. Was bless to have this electric fusion jazz Latin rock funk stuff with Clark Corea Jaco Gadd Hancock and plenty more David cats like this drummer and lots lots more. Just because of me listening to these cats as a kid it stuck in their influence and at my church jam's a amaze my compadres on the percussion as I love to mix the drum set with all the Latin drums. I thank these great fused guys. What a blessing.
Billy, in his prime was a force of nature...Those of us that have respected his playing for decades, understand how great this album is. If you saw Billy back in those days live; you saw something you remember as clear as your first love...:)...His work with Mahavishnu Orchestra introduced me to fusion in 78... I was already a prog head but; then you start to explore Miles, and Chick, Stanley, Jaco, Victor etc etc etc...You find so many amazing new groups and profound blendings of all the great players of the time...It's a lifetime pursuit...Beats, Watching TV...:)
I'm a percussionist and hear his rudimentary sequences. I hear flams, paradiddles, drags, and rolls. His timing going from the chop breaks back to the groove is outstanding. I had never heard of him until right now, but I am an instant fan. I knew about the great Buddy Rich but this right here though💥.
...the magnificent Mr. Cobham's technical wizardry can be partially attributed to his stay with the Jazz Knights -- the US Military Academy jazz band stationed at West Point. He was drafted around 21 years of age, and was there for 3 years. BC obviously read music, and he studied composition extensively. He is certainly one of the most underrated composers from the 70s; he was so powerful a drummer, he was easily overlooked as a disciple of musical theory. Check out his interviews -- incredibly intelligent, grounded, and humble. btw Another drummer you may enjoy is Paco Sery -- whose work with the genius Zawinul is astounding in its grace blended with power. Very different from BC, but coming from a similar mind-place imho. Be well.
Yeah I've been listening to this genius since the album came out or a few years later. He has given so much strength on the drums. I'm just a vatos locos but I can never find any one to play this stuff with. They play Dragon force or punk or extreme beats, but nothing as complicated and hard as this. Thank God or I would retire, but love to play for Mass. God spear me. Phenomenal ese vatos locos forever is Billy. Not now at one time probably the fastest all around including whom ever was back then. Love him, hope you get his stuff and show it to the world ese.
I listened to this guy when I was a kid when this first came out. Haven't stop listening to this day it's like listening to it for the first time. WOW God bless America 😂
I have this album and it’s Billy Cobham in his prime Power speed and taste He’s my favorite when it comes to fusion rock jazz what ever you wanna name it I lived his music growing up and still do The young generation lost out and should go back and learn Put the chops away and get schooled on raw power and finesse I can’t say enough about Billy
There's a half-hour film of Billy from this very gig on UA-cam off BBC TV's Old Grey Whistle Test, which was assumed lost (wiped) - just seach Billy Cobham Rainbow Theatre 1974. You're welcome.
Billy's best stuff was done when he still had the beard and aviator shades - from 'Spectrum' (1973) to 'Smokin' (1983). The rest up to 2000 is nicely collected on a 2CD set called 'Many Years BC' - though it doesn't include anything from the great 1989 French 'Incoming' LP.
I saw him in 2001... I was wondering how he could get any better from his 70's stuff...but he was.... He was using 4 sticks at times, and he is still the best drummer I've ever seen..
He's a beast...Saw his band in 86 at the Chestnut Cabaret in philly...Small venue...It was cool, they had a triple screen set up behind him so you could see his feet...Loved his work in Mahavishnu...One Word- Billy. :)
Favorite drummer and favorite album! BC's amazing work on this informed my own drumming ever since. His combination of sheer force with subtle dynamics and the ability to make odd time signatures swing remains unparalleled to this day!
Saw Billy at the bottom line in N.Y 1974 sunny outside but inside THUNDER AND LIGHTNING ⛈ 🌩 😳 hanging out with my girlfriend and coworkers super special evening in life....
Master peace of cours,,, I still have the LP that I have from 1975, and the funnu thing ( as a drummer my self) is that when you look at the back of teh LP cover disc, well, it ia rare and amasing to read about the musician on the famous LP, Mr Cobham is sing as percusssion ..... !!!! yes I will post that soon ok ... but so far it is one of a brilliant master peace on this planet , wahit all the perfect musicians and the playing.. thank's to your musicality for my soul... Jack from Montreal Québec Canada..
I was made aware of BC when i read Danny Carey from Tool was "inspired by" Mahavishnu. First album i heard was Visions from the emerald beyond, instant fan. This is my attempt at completing a circle, check out Tool (the Pneuma live vid from Vic Ferth is sublime), check out Zaum. Danny is a unique drummer, hes active and he keeps on improving.
Hmmm....I'm thinking......... Does anyone realize Billy scores his own music as well as other musicians (that he doesn't get credit for in the fine print)?
Great, great drummer, unfortunately the music sucks, except Red Baron, but that's my opinion. Love spectrum stratus, menagerie...saw him live once in Amsterdam in the 80 ties.
Incredible album, the writing, musicians, and the genius of Billy Cobham.
It's one of the best fusion albums!
i was 14 years old when i meet Billy Cobham now i am 60 i never tired to listen him again !!!!!

Just love the drumming of Billy Cobham

Buddy rich, gene krupa, louie bellson, carl palmer, bill bruford et. al all take a back seat to Mr. Billy Cobham.
I listened to this guy when I was a kid when this first came out. Haven't stop listening to this day it's like listening to it for the first time. WOW God bless America 😂

I saw that one, and thought it sounded familiar...great to be able to watch it, as well as hear it....
Indeed. There are some great bootlegs around from 74/75 too. This was one great band.

Think I remember that album when 4,300+ albums disappeared... Sad... Whatever
great!!!!
How does he play at that rate for even two minutes straight, let alone an entire concert?
Bassa qualità questo album
Hmmm....I'm thinking.........
Does anyone realize Billy scores his own music as well as other musicians (that he doesn't get credit for in the fine print)?
Damn nice upload... the frequencies are fine..!..:)0(:
Thanks for bringing this master peace of jazz-rock-funk-fusion, Billy is so innovative, inspired, what was the musicians around him again?
The contributing artists are listed in the description :)

Mr. Cobham wrote all the parts as a matter of fact.
He really actually composed ALL of the instrumentation on this???
@@darrenseder5923 Yep
That was a bit on the Funky Thide of Sings ? ! !
To borrow a line from Ren & Stimpy: "It's better than bad - it's GOOD!"😁
anyone else here hear a bit of Zappa's Waka/Jawaka?
2:41 - 2:50 very Zappa. Ha! Zappa and the Mothers were amazed at Billy's playing back when he and the Mahavishnu's Orchestra opened up for them.
Wow
こりゃあいい。
I would love to see that drumming in super slow motion.....
trippy notion, right?

Yes, this is a live album ... He's playing the songs from that album, live.
These overly long ads are ruining these videos, come on UA-cam do they need to be THIS long?
I saw this line-up but Scofield was gone...
Who are the musicians?
"Billy Cobham & William E. Cobham Jr."..... ?????? good joke, :DD

All right Billy Cobham is better than Bill bruford he shreds Bill roofer from great scott. But I shred them both great Scott
Great, great drummer, unfortunately the music sucks, except Red Baron, but that's my opinion. Love spectrum stratus, menagerie...saw him live once in Amsterdam in the 80 ties.
