I’m curious about the “Hot Staplers” as well … more of a pistolgrip, maybe higher power, look like they do a “spot weld” type job, but probably quite strong.

Good stuff. I can think of a number things I could have kept rather than thrown away after gluing failed.
I’ve actually got a cracked motorcycle fender that I will will do this to once I’ve bought the welder.

JB Weld for plastic works for some plastics, but I think your method will be more reliable for thermoplastics. Not so much for thermoset materials; those you have to try to glue, I think - at least I've never managed to weld any. The tip of taking the 'rod' from the object itself, and using the stainless mesh, were both great. I'll definitely use those in the future.

Most of the plastics are PP and PE. Those are very difficult to glue. Very few glue out there for these plastics and they are very expensive as well.

I have never successfully repaired anything plastic with glue, welding plastic together does take practice to get the feel of a solid repair, and this can be frustrating. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. One more thing if you are good with your hands and have some artistic talents (I do not) the better off you will be. A repair done by plastic welding is seldom pretty, just something to know right off the bat going in 😁
