As a City Vanture owner I can attest this is a solid review. I'm happy with the bike overall although I do occasionally run into issues with hills as mentioned in the video. That said, it tackles some hills that were difficult to climb with the regular mountain bike I owned previously. One minor drawback not mentioned in the video is if you're traveling a good speed and lower the pedal assist down a level (because it's not needed) you will feel "drag" from the motor that you would not feel downshifting on a normal bike. At this point you have two options: A) let the bike coast down to the speed that is compatible with that assist level or B) turn it back to the next higher assist level to where you feel little to no resistance in the peddling at all. This doesn't happen all the time but when it does, it's somewhat of a let down. Best suited for relatively flat urban environments and paved trails. 4 out of 5 stars.
ps. Range with extra battery: 30 miles on semi-hilly paved terrain primarily on level 3 using 4 and 5 for hills only without any power loss before having to recharge. *Average speed 16 mph

Thanks for watching and commenting! Thats great to know that your experience was very similar to mine with the bike. I agree with all your points about hill climbing and general riding, its a fun and agile bike for flats and smaller hills, and it is definitely better then riding a normal bike up a hill!
Good point about the motor drag, I did not notice that as much on our test bike, but TBH I was riding it mostly in the highest assist setting, which probably prevented me from feeling that motor drag as mentioned. Great comment for other potential purchasers!

Very similar to the Ride1up gravel, that has sold well. I purchased the KBO Stealth Hurricane that arrived weighing 37 pounds with its larger 10 amp battery. I immediately went to work removing 5 pounds of weight and adding drop bars. I had to change my route, because it will not climb hills, similar to this model. Not having a torque sensor, only a cheap cadence sensor is one of the major problems of these amazing single speed belt drive bicycles. If only there was a generic carbon fiber frame with square down tube to hold the larger 10 amp battery and get this and other similar single speed gates belt driven eBikes under 27 pounds, and maybe a solid state battery with less charging worries. If Ribble can produce a 24 pound carbon frame eBike then others can produce a generic carbon frame for this style eBike frame...

They have it on sale for $869 + $50 water-bottle batteries + $50 helmet. Is it a good deal?

It's not a huge reduction in price for the sale, I saw the bike selling for $899 last year during regular promotions.
The bike is fine quality, but it is a smaller-sized motor. If your into this style of bike and have been looking at the Vanpowers this could be a good time to buy.
However, new models from other brands have been coming out with competitive pricing, which could give you more options and additional features for a slight increase in price now (bike selling for $1000-$1300 USD)

Thank you for the feedback. I see the sale price isn’t much from $899 you mentioned but I think the battery @ $50 is a good deal, so it might be worth it. I saw some e-bike from Costco @ $1300 but it is bulky and ugly.

@@quinhon1969 Totally, the City Vanture was definitely sleek and minimal, I enjoyed riding it as a pavement bike so it will be much more discreet then those bikes you saw! A 50$ water bottle battery could be a good deal, I have not had a chance to test them for capacity or integration, let us know how it is if you get it!

For the money, the Velotric Thunder ST1 is a much better value. While it does have a belt drive and hydraulic brakes, the range anxiety and lack of the ability to climb hills make it a no-go for me. I also think that an only $50 difference for putting it together is also ridiculous!

I hope we get a chance to try out the Thunder ST1! I am going to have to agree with you on those points. I was disappointed because the Vanture is light and fun to ride on gentle terrain. But the issues it presents take away from the ride quality and made me pretty worried about the range! The bike is also pretty bad to pedal on any type of slope with no power, so don't run out of battery with this one!

Great video mate! Can I ask how tall are you? I am 1.93 (6’3’’) and I wander if it is tall enough for me.

Thanks! I am 6'1" and felt comfortable on the bike, but I did have the seat at maximum extension to find a good pedal position. So depending on your leg length, you may be comfortable or slightly oversized for the bike at 6'3" it's going to be a close one. It could be good to find a bike assembled at a shop or for private sale to test for fit.
The brand states an optimal rider height of 5'8" to 6'3" GEO Measurments - Seat post: 21" Reach: 15.3" Stack: 22" Standover height: 31.9"

Thanks for the review. For $900 bucks, this is a great deal especially for those of us in cities that have little to no incline.

@@miguelangel492008 Yes I agree, its hard to match the value, especially when we are seeing prices as low as $859 at Walmart. If you have no hills this bike is lots of fun to ride! www.bikeride.com/vanpowers-city-vanture/
