Fursuiters Beware: The Child of Doom!

- A rather obnoxious child tortured us poor fursuiters at a recent bowling meet. Niko took the brunt of it and we admired him for playing along like he did! Off camera she dragged me across 20 lanes to her party and then proceeded to play "torture the lion" and "grab the tail" while the parents did nothing but smile and laugh at my demise.
It got so bad I grabbed my tail, tucked it under my arm and ran back to our party with the doom child chasing me and screaming the whole way.
Some people's kids...
Moral of the story: Make sure your handlers are trained to deal with such situations. Fortunately Niko is an experienced fursuiter and he played it off very well, but I think we all felt for him!

At the beginning I wasn't disturbed, however when she was trying to open the fursuiter's mouth. It was very rude, damaging someone else's property! Especially cause her parents did nothing about it! I wanted to tell that kid off immediately, she should've been a lot better and have her parents teach her a lesson. But I am more mad at the parents than her.
MidnightFragrance well she was only a little child so she doesn’t know what she is doing. But she also tried to touch his.. banana thingy.... if you know what I mean. Which is very disturbing.

This is why I try my hardest to avoid young children when fursuiting.
One time when I went fursuiting at the mall, some little brat RIPPED MY TAIL OFF!!!
That further strengthened my disliking for kids.

At first it was cute, but then she started prying poor Niko's mouth open I wanted to slap her. Of course I would never do something like that, but the parents should stop their child if they were clearly harming/irritating someone and/or their suit when they clearly said "Be nice". My anger is now directed towards the parents more than the actual child, as said in the comments, the child was just being a child. But the parents should have stopped her and taught her how to respect other peoples property.

Once when I was in my fox suit,I got harassed by a couple of kids with pool noddles, they started hitting me with them and accused me of eating their plants. It was fun at first and I ran around for a while and tolerated it. But after I stopped running and asked them politely to give me a break, because I was overheating, and they kept hitting me was when it got annoying. I tried to act as polite as possible, until I could get away. I ended up hiding behind someone else who had to tell them to stop. Thankfully I was able to catch my breath and didn't faint. But I learned to stay avoid some kids around that age because they seemed to be pretty destructive. They almost broke my tail, ears, and jaws, and caused me to damage my feet paws in my flight. Toddlers are relentless 0.o I don't hate them though, in fact I probably should have taken off my head earlier, they were just REALY HYPER.

It's not that great, I made it a year ago and it's already falling apart :\ although I am opening commissions this summer. I'm starting at 500$ which isn't bad compared to other makers... I don't expect a lot of commissions to come in though... :3

I don't blame the kid for being a kid, but lord the parents should be watching them. What if for god sake they run into a suiter who is more into taking children then playing the game. Not to say 99% of the population would but you can buy a cheap dog suit at walmart and this kid would think after this harassing them would be an okay thing. Seriously I see an accident happening in this kids future.

when i went fursuiting i was attacked by this little girl who was at a birthday party i went to go fursuit at (she absolutely destroyed my friends fursuit, tore the neck, fucked up the eye, etc.) and she saw me at the park i went to and started to pull on my suits face and i got her to let go but then she pulled on the neck and now there's a tear in it, it's not a huge tear but i mean- it still sucks. kids are scary.

You think you got it bad. I brought my head WIP to camp once, and this little girl, kenzie, punched it by the snout and it went flying off my head. She sat back down laughing, I got my head and put it on and walked by her and smacked her on the back of her head XD. I got in trouble but that little 10 year old had it coming XD. before you hate on me, I'm not an adult I'm only a few years older than her and I didn't hit her hard

I know kids like that...poor Niko, he did well. If it was me I would not have been able to handle it as well as he did...I would have done everything I could to get away...the problem is with children as soon as you look like you're trying to get away they think that it's a game and keep going and sometimes even get worse.

It never even occurred to me that by wearing a fur suit you could encounter such situations :/ The way I would of handled this is by scolding the girl in-character, not in a mean nor aggressive manner, but rather with a strict and serious attitude towards her behavior. Much like this guy did at the end. I admire you Niko, for how patient you were.

If yr going to take a child to see fursuits tell them the rules and tell them not to tug on or damage the suit these are expensive items and the fursuiter would be mad if they had to pay for damage they didn't do

I can bet you that kid's parents were somewhere on the other side of the lanes, and they were there not having any idea that costumed individuals would be there the same day. Even if they were close by, most parents don't actually know that suits are expensive, or that their kid has the physical power to hurt it, or the person inside. They assume costumed people are licensed and insured against kids, like Santas and Easter Bunnies are. It's a fairly common misconception. Someone should have gone to find this girl's parents and told them what their kid was up to.
This is my only real fear for when I finally get a head commissioned. Obnoxious children whose parents won't do jack shit to help a fursuiter out, because they don't understand that those things cost a LOT of money.
I agree. I went in my partial at a con and totally thought I was going to get attacked by this little girl but her parents actually did something. on the other hand this one girl scared the shit out of me while I was overheating and her parents didn't do shit. I was so mad.
Why didn't anyone of you guys step into correct the child's behavior? Simply shaking your head, crossing your arms or shaking your finger at her would've told her "No, what you're doing to me isn't nice. Please stop."

All I see is a kid overexcited and having fun. Yes shes not being respectful to the suiters, but its to be expected sometimes around children or other adults who don't know the rules of fursuiting in general or what personal space is. Fursuiters give off the impression they are cuddly, heartwarming, and a friend you can play with. Which is what children see a lot of the time. And children really, they are children. They grow and learn, eventually shes going to know that she shouldn't of done that but she was having so much fun. And is a positive experience for herself around the furry fandom. At least it wasn't a negative one where one of them pulled off their heads and hit her. She would hate the fandom and be scared of everyone who wore a fur suit out in public in the future. Those people who take this and everything that gets thrown at them gets enormous amount of respect for staying in character, not being mean or crappy, and just try to make the best about the situation till it ends. (Two thumbs up)
I agree that it's nice of the suiter to remain calm and happy, but the parents need to know that these people aren't there for the kids. I'm a furry, and although I have a high patience for kids, I would rather not be bombarded with them. I would have tried to sneak off for a more trained suited to help, but honestly this is a matter of parents needing to know how to control a child.
Fursuits are not toys, if they went to Disney, they'd be reprimanded for attacking characters, or forcing them anywhere. If I had seen it, I would sit my child down and tell them that the character is an animal and needs to be loved, and to be gentle so you don't hurt them. You can avoid tormenting people, it's easy stuff, I've had to deal with kids like that before! :(

Barry Copithorne I completely agree with your opinion, however,they I also believe that parents should know when a child is going too far. A mascot is not for kids to touch and play with and get dirty but to laugh with and have mostly non-contactable fun. I also believe that the fursuiter/handler in this video could have done something better than just letting this kid harass them. They could have stood up for themselves and told the child calmly yet firmly that it was not okay to harass the fursuiter and that they had to be gentle.
If I had a fursuit and this happened, I'd just hide under a table until the horrors ceased.

This is why when I get my first fur suit I'm planning on making sure I have a Handler who knows what they're doing as I do want to interact with children as my character however this is one thing I fear is one bratty child ruining it for others.

If I get a fursuit and some kid did this to me, I would rip of my fursuit head and yell "PLEASE STOP" as firmly as I can. That usually scares kids straight.

im actually a furry with my mom when we go out its like shes my furry mom and I'm her furry kid but being a furry as a kid is the same as a adult furry they want me to SHARE my costume or play with them -_-

I'm seeing a bunch of people commenting about kids trying to take apart their suit. I mean, in my opinion, that's fine, but only because they don't understand much of the world right now. Now imagine a bunch of TEENAGERS trying to take apart the suit, wanting to see if it was one of their friends inside. Completely capable of respect, but completely ignoring it. I'm pretty sure my mask almost ripped in half after one of my friends decided to stretch my mouth all the way out, then having a bunch of random people do the same, thinking it's funny. I'm not trying to one-up anyone, but I felt like I could share one of my experiences here.

I don't mean to be rude, but my sisters (age 4 & 5) knows how to act with fursuiters. (Mostly because shes seen some of my fursuits and just knows its a mask maybe). They don't really have a problem with fursuiters and actually enjoys them. They don't pull there tails or grab there muzzle or anything. But when i see children acting like this it makes me wonder if parents actually teach there children respect. (I know that there are some children that are like my sisters but apparently I haven't met any)

Karatto Just seems insane to be that far from your kid when the lanes look about 2 meters, so the parents are around 40 meters away. Just seems like irresponsible parenting. Growing up my parents did not let me get 2 meters away.
Also I have heard/read that fur suiters can not really see much so for me a kid messing around and I can not keep my eyes on her would drive me insane but I would just have to tolerate it because tings have a way to backlash on anything you do... Go thing this dude could tolerate that kid.

I had once gone fursuiting at a local Halloween party at my old Primary School. A few 5 year olds tried to pull my mouth open and plus my head off, then some rough 8-10 year olds ripped my tail off my belt and proceeded the rest or the party holding it on with a safety pin.
And the parents? Well of course they did JACK SHIT to stop their children ruining my fursuit.

Kid of Doom doesn't know how a Fursuiters vision isn't perfect. Niko could have easily stood up and spun around and sent that kid flying on their behinds. Niko: "Ooops, sorry kid, I didn't see you".
