I'm actually on my 3rd Q50 haha. This was Q50 number 2. My current one has a flex fuel kit so I no longer have to test the ethanol. I can just pump , do a quick test drive to let the sensor read the fuel, then my ethanol content will update in the app. If I need more I can just swing back to the pump
Just a quick note. There is a considerable amount of other fuel in the dispenser so you would want to use a gas can and pump about a gallon of the fuel you are testing first then test to get a more accurate measurement. Have a great day.
So to clarify every e85 pump station you go to you do this test and if it passes you don't have to double check or do you double check every single time you go to the e85 station
If you go to the same station for e85, do this test every 4th or 5th time you get e85. Results should be close to each other each test. If you go to different stations, test each time.
Thanks! I’m going to find a kit and do this myself! Have you tested any that have been way less than 85% ethanol? I am building an engine now for e85, but I can’t drop below 80% due to the compression.
I stuck with the same station once I found one that tested good. But, you should get in a habit of testing every month because there been times when the ethanol content fluctuates and usually negatively
I’ve seen some really low some as low as 60% it’s never always 85% I’ve never seen more than 81%. You would need to purchase Sunoco R-85 for precise E-85 content and control
Install a ethanol sensor and tune your car for flex fuel. If your injectors and ecu are capable. Then you can use any mixture of 93 and e85. Your ecu will adjust automatically depending on the ethanol content.
Awesome video. Straight to the point with no bullshit. Getting my e85 tune tomorrow. How much ethanol variance would you say is okay before I need to find a different blend somewhere else? 5%? This would be for a boosted 6.1 hemi.
@@damercerterker8176 the tune ended up failing because my fuel pump ran out of head room. I reverted back to 93 and saved up some money for a dual pump. Should be installing it here soon. After that, back to tuning.
Definitely. For one I didn't even use a funnel haha. But yeah I would definitely suggest taking some 5-gallon jugs home and testing. Ultimately a flex fuel kit is the true answer as well
Wait so how much e85 should I pay for at the pump to have the right amount to put into the tester tube. Will there be enough e85 in the nosal to squeeze out before paying for it ?
Just activate the pump as normal, it'll only be a couple cents into the bottle then you can pump the desired amount into your tank after calculations. Two transactions is a minor inconvenience but might as well get it right
@@serstylz2 sorry but what do mean by activate the pump as normal? I never pay from the machine I usually go inside and pay an amount for gas. Is there a button on the button on the pump somewhere to just keep filling up until I desire to stop ? Is that what u mean ?
@@rocconido2192 oh my mistake, bad explanation. Usually I pour the water out of the water bottle I brought, transfer the ethanol/water mixture back into the water bottle, and throw that into the trash
I stopped running E. The car was experiencing some sputtering and jerkiness, in my opinion the LPFP has to be upgraded at minimum to handle anything above e15.
@@serstylz2 The goal is at least e85? I’m new, too. So if I get e90 from the same pump, I assume it’ll be the same every 4-5 fill up? Because testing everything seems to suck.
Simple, quick to the point exactly what I was looking for thanks man. Great vid.
You're very welcome
Pro tip: use a solo cup or other small plastic cup to dispense a little gas in then poor that into the bottle.
This is exactly what I needed to see, got the same tester thanks!!
Glad you found the video helpful
Oh you got a Q50! Nice! I do too and I’m looking at the E85 test kits too.

@willcall9431 the e85 pumps where I am are dedicated yellow pumps, they only pump the e85. Never unleaded or diesel in the same line
That’s good. Not always like that however.

I might be late, but if it drops under E75 I start skipping the station till they get a refuel
I might be late, but if it drops under E75 I start skipping the station till they get a refuel
From what I’ve read, E70 is still pretty safe, but if you can fill at a better station, go there instead

Id1050x injectors, fore dual fuel pumps, twin bb turbs
With the Jordan’s!!! Fking epic
Lol appreciate it
Nice video. I feel as if there is an easier way to do? Possibly with 5 gallon jugs at home?

Awesome man I had no idea this existed thank you!!!
No problem
Now what do you do with the mixture?
Drink it. Tastes like corn.

Pay at the pump
What do you do with the water e85 mix then? Dump it on the ground? In the garbage? Take it around with you and dump it somewhere else?
I re-cap the bottle and put it in the trash bin
@@serstylz2 so you need to buy a new 15 dollar e85 tester for every fill up? There must be a better way
@@rocconido2192 oh my mistake, bad explanation. Usually I pour the water out of the water bottle I brought, transfer the ethanol/water mixture back into the water bottle, and throw that into the trash

Where do you throw the fuel after your finish using it on the test kit?
I dump it in the trash bin at the pump, they use those heavy duty garbage bags so it's relatively safe

You're welcome. I will update this, I recommend some disposable gloves while testing

Is there a proper way to dispose of whats in the test bottle?
Ethanol can be safely poured down the drain since this is a small amount.
@@serstylz2 Cool. Thanks
So now what do you do with it?
Usually pour it into the water bottle and put it in the trash bin
So if it reads 87 for example, it’s better for your car? The higher the ethanol the better?
Correct. 87 would be amazing from the pump

What do you do with the tested fuel after?
Leave it in the bottle, cap it and place it in the trash cans there
Can anyone help translate e85 ethanol levels to its appropriate octane rating?
101-105 I think
Interesting! Thank you!

Must suck to wait 5 mins to know if your good to pump. Ive heard alot of storys so i guess is worth it
