2 years ago I took a trip down the PCH from San Fran to San Diego. Your videos are fantastic and provided so much help for planning the trip. Keep up the great work
Fort Ross outside of Jenner, CA that explains the amazing connection old CA had with Russia from 1812-1841. It’s sort of stunning to see this huge fortress as you are driving hwy 1 along the Mendocino coast. It’s an amazing piece of history. The Presidio in Santa Barbara is small but the fact it’s in the center of town built around it makes that a great place to check out. They rebuilt it from scratch the way it was originally built with actual Adobe bricks from clay soil from Santa Barbara. It was fascinating watching them reconstruct it
I was just trying to remember what fort is north of Bodega Bay and I open the comments of this video lol. I heard of it recently and have been to Bodega Bay many times. Now I'm really interested in learning the history.
Your videos are SO WEEL DONE, 99% better than anything else online!! You have content that is way better when showed on the BIG Screen! Love watching from my lazyboy!
We spend a lot of time fishing the Eastern Sierras so when it was slow on one trip, we visited the Bodie ghost town. It was a unique area and very crowded that day. The drive in and out was so dusty I decided to check my air filter and was I surprised! I've done my share of off roading in my youth and this was equivalent to that!
I have a few from your list that I need to add to my list! One you can add to your list is Columbia State Park outside of Sonora. We love going after Thanksgiving when the candy store makes candy canes. It is so fun to watch them being made!
Hey Josh, great running into you at Copper Top the other day. My wife and I successfully summited White Mountain the next day. I hope you were on some great travels as well! Thanks again for everything you've put into the channel--it's been a great resource for us.
We visited Hearst Castle in August 2018, and the outside pool had been drained for maintenance, awesome to see it full again in this video. Love all your videos, greetings from Russ and Nikki in the UK
@@californiathroughmylens To be honest it was so hot that day, I swear if it had of been filled I would have performed a perfect swan dive into that pool that any olympian would have been proud of 🤣
I recommend Fort Humboldt State Historical Park in Eureka. It has some well preserved buildings from the time that a young army lieutenant named Ulysses Grant was stationed there. They also have displays about pre-colonial history and the local timber heritage.
Very good. Your kids are LUCKY to have such an interesting dad. I've visited all but the Eagle Mine. And, you have only scratched the surface. Keep it up. You could do a mission tour and compare and contrast. As I think about it, you may get me into a lot of trouble. My kids only let me drive short distances for groceries and medical appointments. Now I'm planning an escape.
Hi always enjoy your videos...we go to lompoc quite often..the last time we were there we visited the site of the original mission...it was moved after part was destroyed by an earthquake...they built homes over the old site but you can still see some of the original wall up by the old RR tracks that run through the town...ty again love sightseeing with you guys..btw..how is the little one doing 👋
The west coast has so many cool stuff to see. It is definitely in my bucket list. I know a UA-camr that wanted to visit the Big Sur Lighthouse but he went out of season.
These videos are so imformitive. Makes me want to go visit each and every spot you show on here. Is there any places in California that you haven't gotten to yet that are in your bucket list?
Fantastic Josh; there's a little Inn maybe 50 miles North of Hearst it had a grocery store B&B little stream out back any ideas what it might be called? Know its big area; was there 15 years ago. Thanks
My dream is to swim in the indoor pool at Hearst Castle. This was a fabulous list and sadly, I’ve not been to many. Can you do your B List 10 too please? 😬 Awesome video as ALWAYS Josh!
Anderson Marsh SHP is one of my favorites. Honestly, there's not a lot of 'historical' content there, basically just an old farmhouse and some outbuildings so it probably didn't have a shot at making the list, but it's awfully pretty and absolutely full of life. There's lots of flowers and birds to see, and at the right time of the year it has wild grapes growing along the edge of the river trail. I found a gorgeous gopher snake there once, too, that must have been over 6 feet long. I'm also a little surprised there aren't any more gold rush era parks on your list (though Empire Mine was definitely an interesting visit). Malakoff Diggins, Columbia, and the Marshall Gold Discovery SHPs would have been good additions.
My favorite state history park in California is old town Sacramento because they have old steam trains instead of old buildings from the 1800s I love trains a lot!
Hurst Castle is a classic and not to be missed, but I loved Bodie. Also, read the history of Bodie Bill who burned down most of the town at the age of 3 in 1932.
Is it possible to make a road trip list of California with variation of lesser known places to widely known maybe starting from Los Angeles or Sacramento?
I want you to know that your videos have been a HUGE inspiration for me! I travel all over Northern and Central California now thanks to your videos 😊
Very kind of you to say! I love California and I always love to hear that the videos encourage people to see more of it!
I echo that notion - did Moro Rock today and I'm planning to visit Channel Islands soon! 💓
@@elizabethlima-torres1721 Oh my god the Channel Islands are stunning! Especially if you Scuba dive. Or you can snorkel
@@kathrynmercier4874 wow! That sounds amazing. I'll look into that, my husband loves to dive.
Love this, very nice video. Thanks for sharing!..👌👌👍👍
My husband proposed to me at Hearst Castle. He knew how much I love it there. Great video as always!
How cute!❤
I've visited most of these and wholeheartedly support your recommendations.
Glad you agree!!
Wow ... 3 down (living in Gold River) and 7 more to go from your list. Love you brief comments and coverage - Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I’ve been to the Hearst castle and Bodie a few times and it never gets old.
Thank you for these videos!!
Glad you like them!
2 years ago I took a trip down the PCH from San Fran to San Diego. Your videos are fantastic and provided so much help for planning the trip. Keep up the great work
Great video! If you visit Hearst Castle be sure to go up the road a couple of miles to see the elephant seals!
Heck yes, that is a great suggestion. I love seeing them!
Man I love your videos. So informative! You inspire me to want to do travel videos myself!!

Great suggestions, I have been to the Presidio, but never Fort Ross. Sounds awesome and I will have to add it to the list!
And, I think the botanical garden is second to none. Plus, there's the petroglyph just off Camino Cielo.
I was just trying to remember what fort is north of Bodega Bay and I open the comments of this video lol. I heard of it recently and have been to Bodega Bay many times. Now I'm really interested in learning the history.
Absolutely stunning place. I would like to visit Fort Ross one day!
Absolutely, I just saw your comment after I added mine. Fort Ross is a no brainer and easily one of the top destinations to visit.
Dude…..great shots! Everything looks really sharp!
Point Sur looks amazing! Being a Utah guy, I'll have to check more places out in California.
Love it! Putting these on my list for our next visit to CA. As a history teacher, I appreciate the insightful content.
Your videos are SO WEEL DONE, 99% better than anything else online!!

That is so kind of you, really appreciate it!
The lighthouse at Sur looks beautiful
Great ideas for some post COVID re-emerging!!!
Thanks for making these vids! These places are some of the reasons I won’t leave.
Glad you like them!

Columbia State Historic Park is a favorite of mine.

Yea, it was drained for a few years. It is pretty incredible to see it full for sure. I wish I could swim in it haha

Redwood State Park is amazing and also Fort Ross .. all in Northern California
Thank you! This is awesome😊
No problem 😊

Love my state

Slowly whittling away at this list. But now we have a few more to add to it! 😅

Is it possible to make a road trip list of California with variation of lesser known places to widely known maybe starting from Los Angeles or Sacramento?
California is so big and has so many unique areas that there are so many road trip options. Great idea for a future video though!
Hearst Castle has been closed for over a year now
You left out Columbia State Park.
❤
Never heard about bodie park.
👍😍
Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park where the real teepees all maintained by Native Americans
+1
Smartest thing Hurst did was give his “castle” to the state and let us taxpayers pay for its maintenance and upkeep! Great call!
it’s an overrated piece of extravagant concrete, not fit to be called a historic state park.
That doll is creepy
It really is haha
Hearst Castle is so overrated, perhaps Fort Ross, Sonoma Coast should’ve made in.
