I started this job, it's tricky and managed to cut the pipe off with a hacksaw blade very tediously. I love the energy you gave battling through this job until completion, hats of to you sir.

Where the pipes go into the rack are there any other seal apart from the orings on the pipes ?
    Thanks

All I do is cut the high pressure pipe at the union with a hacksaw blade or air saw then undo the 18mm union with a socket at the pump,no need to remove the p/s pump or aircon comp, can be done in about an hour.

Blast this makes sense - I couldn't see how to get to the union in order to get a scoket/spanner or anything on this - but of course if the hose is cut there then I could have done this. I live & learn - having cut the hose elsewhere...i removed the power steering pump.

You were going well to do that job in 1hr start to finish. After doing this today there is definitely no need to take off a lot of the parts he did. people have their own style and I am not saying his method is wrong.
I power steering reservoir was removed bottom and wheel arch plastics. I snapped the pipe off at the ps pump and then was able to get a socket onto the union this for me is the only head scratcher of the job, the rest is moving a rachet 5 degrees at a time or just plane simple. 2 1/2 hrs from putting the jack under to taking it out without working up a sweat.
I want to say I still found the video and your comments useful.

@@andyshirley7871 Just doing this job now - I just couldn't see how it was possible to remove the "suicide bolt" as he calls it - so I decided to remove the Power Steering Pump altogether.

I did the same job In the garage and it was a nightmare to do. But copy pipes off eBay are not perfect fit. And I had to modify a bit and the pipes would join onto the steering rack with the 10mm bolt. I don’t think so they fitted in properly I need to push them in again. Have to loosen the 10mm and push it in properly and make sure the rubber ring seals are not damaged. Good video bro. 👍

Riiight... I made a critical idiotic mistake and never bought a new 18mm bolt for the pump.. and then cut the bracket that holds the pipe into place off lmao.. I've had to order new pipe work.. At least I know now that you tighten the bolt up first.. Thank you so much for this man.

    • @Vanadeo

As a caution to all.. Just fitted everything with an aftermarket ebay line.. Avoid at all costs. Not had a chance to see if it holds fluid due to another hose splitting, but the fitting on the ebay lines are diabolical. The bracket that secures the union to the rack on mine does not fit correctly, It seems like it will hold, but it is very sketchy.
This job requires 2 people on re-assemble and is an absolute pain in the arse, so make sure you get good quality parts so that you don't have to do the job again.

You don't need to remove the water tank or any other part you can move the water tank out of your way without losing any water and all the pipework out of the way I didn't even need to take off any belts you made a simple job look a lot harder than it needed to be

Great guide. Not sure wether to attempt this as it’s at the limits of my skills.lol Such a stupid fault on such a mass produced car.Is the replacement pipe uprated or will it probably last around 90k and do the same again? Will I do any damage to the car moving it with the leak? It’s making a very loud noise at the moment. Thanks

    • @TEAMR4ULTV

I don't understand why I can't find any information on how to remove the push fit pipe from the union, even your video skips this bit 😭

    • @TEAMR4ULTV
      @TEAMR4ULTV  3 роки тому

Sorry I thought I explained it. I took the complete pump off. Then took the pipe off with a spanner. With the new pipe you get a new union which is not on the pipe. once you put it on you cant take it off. But if you want to take it off put it in a vice and try pulling it

@@TEAMR4ULTV Hi, thank you for the video.
I have an annoying steering oil leak from one of pipes connecting to the steering hub/column, replaced the oil seal several times on this pipe, but after a while it leaks again.
I am tiered of it ..decided to replace the whole steering rack assembly, bought a used one, after a bit of struggle removed the assembly. But, not being aware of this suicide Nut i have spent almost 2 days trying to get the nut into the pump (used nut that came with the assembly) without success. After seeing your helpful video I understood why i failed.. still a couple of questions...
      - How easy is it to push the metal hose into the suicide nut ? my steering pump is still in mounted position, so wondering if it is easy to push the metal hose into the suicide nut after a new nut is installed keeping the pump in mounted position.
      - How to remove the previous suicide nut that remained on the hose of the replacement steering rack ( the used replacement part that i bought) without damaging the metal hose ?
      Thanks a lot !

Ok for you to push the pipe on I think it's no problem. It goes on quite easy and you should be able to push it on. As for taking the old one off without damaging the pipe I think you have to take the pipe off, clamp it on the vice and pull it off somehow. It's not the easiest job in the world to be honest, it's a stupid design.

    • @philhalpin4882

Only did this job on my wifes 07 Focus.....if just replacing the hoses...just cut the pipe as close to the union and you'll get an 18mm socket to remove it,it'll save time removing any other components apart from the reservoir and headlight.....you get a new union with your new hoses, replace the new union separately with the 18mm socket....DO NOT PUSH IT ON THE NEW HOSE PRIOR TO FITTING....it's a one way push fit.
