I can relate to that *BUY FIRST THINK LATER* on a spiritual level
Same
Just happened to me 😆
Your drawing is hilarious...and, oh so true!
+Coco Williamson Thanks 😂
I think their signs are straight of my own thoughts; especially "I can't stop buying art supplies"! LOL Great review and fun sketch!
I came here after I brainlessly bought this set and thought "hey, Teoh maybe has a review" and was greeted by those compulsive art supply consumers.
Perfect.
Those protest signs made my day.
Love the signs in your drawing! My husband got me this set, plus the Primatek set, for Christmas. Two colors I would recommend to supplement - Burnt Sienna and Green Gold because, even though you can mix to get browns and greens, these colors are very useful to have already mixed. The Burnt Sienna is probably more vivid than you can mix with this set.
THE PROTEST MADE ME FEEL CALLED OUT I DO ALL THAT SHIT
🤣😂 this protest was me shopping my haul for an upgrade from Van Gogh half pans.
I WANT F*CKING TRANSPARENCY IN COLORS, IN MANUFACTURING OF SUPPLIES, AND IN LIGHT-FASTNESS RATINGS, GATDAMMIT!
Great image. I think I was at that protest. ;-)
Lol I love your sketch. The girl in the front? It's me! I can't really stop buying art supplies lol.
Thanks for this review Teoh, I would really like to purchase some Daniel Smith watercolor. 😊
LOL at the phrases on the signs! made me smile :)
I'm the one in the back holding the sign, "I hoard art supplies", LOL
One of my favorite starter paint sets!!
I forgot to mention in the video. This is a versatile set because there warm and cool versions of primary colours included.
If you're looking for an beginner set, you can consider this Daniel Smith Set, the Mission Gold 9 Tube Set or the M Graham Basic 5 Color Set
www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-mission-gold-watercolors-9-tube-set
www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-m-graham-watercolor-paint-basic-5-color-set
I've a video comparing various iPad styluses. ua-cam.com/video/LDoXMvE0pP0/v-deo.html
Good video, but I don't think Phthalo Blue is really a cool colour though. I would say there are two warm blues.
Hello. I watch your videos all the time. Recently subbed. I'm very new to WC. Think I will start here with DS intro set, then get M Graham 5 tube intro set or jewel set, IDK. I just want the best basic set so I can learn and grow. Do you agree?
Just get the basic Daniel Smith set of 6 colours. That would be sufficient. If you want additional colours, you can choose to add individual colours, or get colours different from the DS set.
Teoh Yi Chie Ok, I will get this basic 6 set from DS. Thanks. But now I watched your newest DS video on the 3 primary colors.... Yet I wil stilll stick with the 6 set. Unless you think otherwise??? LOL
Thank you so much for making your videos. I would sub you 100 times if I could.
This crowd is my everyday mood
Thank you Teoh for this video. Always on the top.
Thank you for your review!
thankyou ..love Daniel smith colors....
Love the signs!!!
Absolutely adore these babies. DS is one of my best buddy along with Sennelier.
LOL, those signs are fricking relatable 🤣
I love Daniel Smith. I have way more colors than I need, but I always want more when I see some that I don't have! I got the five page dot charts and swatched them out, and that is when I fell in love with them all, plus the new colors from 2017!
+Maryan Harrell I'm also looking forward to getting the new colours.
Hi Teo, had been watching a lot of you videos to decide on which watercolor to purchase.. There are just so many! Thanks for you videos!
Love this set ❤️
Wonderful video and the drawing is fantastic fun! The "I can't stop buying art supplies" made me laugh! :) Great review, though in your comment below, I agree with the Daniel Smith and MG sets, but I gave up on Graham because they get moldy from the honey base, if they sit too long (at least in my experience). Cheers, T.
I loved discovering a channel like yours! Thank you for sharing great stuffs
Cool Sketch, I love the rich colors you can accomplish with the Daniel Smith watercolors, I bought one the other day to try it out and I really like it the color I've picked was the Quinacridone Sienna from the Extra Fine Line of DS's colors. I've put some of this DM Sienna in my travel palette wich is a Windsor and Newton set that I'm enjoying very much and is just perfect for certain things. Thanks for the review :D
Great demo- thank you! I just watched this for the first time, and laughed out loud at the signs the people are carrying 😅 What a hoot - I could definitely join that protest :)
Haha I love what you wrote on the signs! Very funny!
this is my first set of artist grade wc paints. i'm glad i made a good choice. i just poured them into half pans this morning 😊 after watching your other video. i had a little accident with french ultramarine but all is well haha
😆 a happy accident
This set seems pretty complete! I would love to see a mixing chart of this set. Btw the signs were pretty funny 🤣
your sketch is soooooo funnyXD i love all the slogan there,...well done job
I love the theme of the sketch it speaks to my heart very very well haha... :)
I really like your videos, I learn a lot of things that help me to improve my draws. Thanks for share your knowledge with others. That watercolor brand it's not available where I live but I'm still watching your vids. You're awesome and I love your style.
+Lali Rotiz Thanks 😁
I LOVE this sketch...so funny!!!! Ty
nice presentation!
bdw... this idea of the sketch is really funny 😂
Wow you made it look so easy :)
Like on Insta when I said .. I really love the signs. Quite a few of them are so applicable to me. :D I also hoaaard art supplies. :D Lovely video as always Teoh! I have been thinking to get this set for a while as well as it has the basics you need and might be nice as a small travel kit to start. And the one colour I own from Daniel Smith I really love, great vibrancy and rich pigment (I have a tube of Phthalo Turquoise).
OMG Your sketch = our brains
Those signs! Lol. They are so funny and clever
Those banners are funny !! I love watching your reviews eventhough I dont have money to buy coz im broke!! Btw great review as always !!
Ooooh I like that price
Would love a print of this illo. It’s so me. Thanks for the informative video.
I have this set and it’s excellent. There are very few shades you can’t make...so why do I keep buying all these random shades of paint? I don’t know. It’s fun, I guess, to have them - but really not necessary. And you really learn a lot about color when you keep it simple and stick to the primaries.
This is the second time I have watched this video. I just noticed the signs and what they say Lol!!!so funny.!!!
Cool. Watercolor and color theory.
"I can't stop buying art supplies"...Lol
yesterday i bought this set a and today has arrived! The set is stunning, pity the tubes are just 5 ml
Your drawing is funny and I can certainly identify with some of those comments on the signs. My first Daniel Smith purchase was Susie Short's Essential 7 set. The New Gamboge that came with that set contained the pigment, Nickel Dioxine Yellow PY 153. I have a couple of tubes. But, that pigment is the same pigment in my DS New Gamboge watercolor stick.
I'm also using the New Gamboge with PY 153. Looks very similar to the new formula.
I love how you say the number 3, hehehe
Yea, I think I'm that lady in the front row, on the right. Thanks a lot, Teoh!
PY3 lightfastness is suspect with some dramatic changes in a short period of time. Definitely worth researching. I don't see why manufacturers still push it, especially one as reputable as Daniel Smith. W&N doesn't use it anymore, even in their Cotman line. Would definitely give it your own light fast test if you must have it.
Thanks. I will test it
Just wondering what are cool and what are warm. I’m used to Windsor and newton so I’m familiar with….
Love your crowd messages in the signs. Me as well guilty. But hey “ When your shit is cool it is not hoarding” as someone said🤪
The colours look so vibrant! Although I cant find any Daniel Smiths anywhere. Anyway which brand do you prefer? Winsor and Newton or Daniel Smith? thxx
+Samermc9 I started out with Winsor and Newton but nowadays I mostly use Daniel Smith. Both are good quality paints. Just go with one that you can find and buy easily when you run out of paint.
What colours did you mix to make the skin tone of the middle person? Love the shade!
That's with New Gamboge, Pyrrol Scarlet with a tiny bit of either blue. Use a lot of water to get the light shade.
I love the drawing. Very newsworthy.
Thanks :-)
Great review. I actually just bought some of these paints myself. I was wondering how you managed to get the lighter skin tone. Which colors did you mix? Thanks for your time!
I used New Gamboge, Pyrrol Scarlet and a tiny bit of French Ultramarine. It takes a while to get the right mixture. So usually, I will have Yellow Ochre in my palette because I can get the same skin tone colour very fast.
Lightfastness is very important
What colors did you mix to get the skin tone?
+maisarah azam New Gamboge, Pyrrole Scarlet and a tiny bit of French Ultramarine.
Teoh Yi Chie thanks 🙏 teoh
maisarah azam Thanks for asking that!
I was curious about this, too.
Teoh, are the HYL, QR, and the PB technically cool primary colors???
I have one tube of Quin Magenta from DS, I fell in love with it pretty quick, their vibrancy and reactivate like a dream. I always being interested in this set, a great starter. I would need some burnt sienna to fulfill my love for the mixture between Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna. I'm in love with granulation right now, can you recommend some grannular color for me? Really appreciate ^^ Plus, the protest is just every artist strunggles 😂😂, great signs 😂😂
+Giao Nguyen I don't actually know a lot of granulating colours from DS. The ones I know are Moon Glow, Sodalite Genuine, Cerulean Blue.
I really liked the sketch and the paints look so so vibrant but i can alrady tell that the fact you used mixed media paper instead of watercolor paper made the difference on vibrancy
Hi Teoh. I have gotten into watercolor this past year and want to try professional quality paint. If you could recommend 3-6 more colors to accompany this primaries set, what would you recommend?
Hansa Yellow Medium, Pyrrol Crimson, Cerulean Blue Chromium, Quinacridone Gold, Phthalo Green, Burnt Sienna
Thank you very much!
Another excellent video Teoh. I just picked up your Asian Civilization Museum tutorial set on gumroad.com and it's terrific... worth every penny and very affordable. Thanks for all the great tutorials and reviews. I really appreciate it.
+Steve Atkinson Thanks for your support. I really appreciate it 😊
thanks for this review. can yu tell us what brush you are using. you seem to be using it a lot.
+sandra fishman That's the Nevskaya Palitra sable brush
"Buy first, think later" lol
Good review Teoh. The colours look really nice. How do the Daniel Smith paints compare price-wise with eg. Schmincke?
They are way more expensive if they aren t on sale then most other same quality brands
@@abbyrivers9971 It also depends on the country.
this is my second time watching this video and just noticed the signs. LOL
Teoh, I know you like DS watercolors...but what are your thoughts on M.Graham & Holbein fine-watercolors brands?
They are good brands too. M Graham has honey so the paints stay moist longer, and is more suited for working at home.
omg this is so relatable!! Also, anyone know which I should get: Hansa yellow deep or New Gamboge?
Either is fine actually. New Gamboge is more yellow and less orange
5:15 suddenly there are skin tones but you didn't show how you made them. Can you show that too?
Those are yellow + red. You can try different combination for different colours. Use lots of water as skin tone is quite light
@@teohyc Ah, orange, possibly toned down a bit with blue. Thanks!
is this the blue canson xl mixed media paper or the ones in the black notebooks :)
+Franchesca Pierre It is the one with the blue cover. ua-cam.com/video/DOKjN3VkrVs/v-deo.html
Teoh Yi Chie wow it looks better than i remember! i love the tooth
What did you use for the skin tone? Thank you.
Most of the time Yellow Ochre with warm red. You can mix with warm yellow and red and blue but it takes more time
Their French Ultramarine is the bestt
I'm contemplating if I should get this set or not as my first professional wc paints. >,
This sketch is good, or get Mission Gold set (but they are not good for pouring into pan)
@@teohyc Thank you for the response, Teoh! I watched your review on Mission Gold and will be getting that set instead since it's friendlier to the pocket lol.
what is the colour chart of this pallette ?( since it doesnt have any green or browns....) and can you compare the intensity of it with...say a winsor n newton?
I'll upload the colour chart tomorrow. I forgot to show it in the video.
Intensity is similar to Winsor and Newton.
If you're thinking of either getting DS or WN, get the one that you can easily find and buy when you run out of paints.
Teoh Yi Chie ok...thanks :)
If you live in Europe Winser Newton is wat more affordable and the same quality. They Both have soms colors that the other one doesn't produce or specialty colors. But the usual colorline is the same in Both brands.
looks great but I have problems mixing paints.. either too much water or not enough hue... and if I mix colors they become muddy... Looks so easy when you just pick a color and add it to the sketch and does not look patchy.
+Angel IRreal My quick tip is, to mix secondary colours, use the colours that are closest to it on the colour wheel. E.g. To get a bright orange, use a warm yellow (close to orange, e.g. New Gamboge) and warm red. Muddy mixtures happen because there are neutralising colours in the paint. It's a bit long to explain here. You can search for color mixing videos on my channel or UA-cam. Or you can also check out my colour mixing course at gumroad.com/parkablogs
Teoh Yi Chie I will try it. In your videos it seem you use very small amount of water even for a big wash .. that is where I tend to make a mistake, on top of that if I try to add another color it jus mushrooms into a mess...
+Angel IRreal I use just enough water. I don't mix extra so that I don't have to do a lot of cleaning up, especially outdoors. If I don't have enough, I add more water and paint and mix again, but sometimes I won't achieve the same colour. Two color mixtures are usually good, three colours are going to be a bit tricky. The thing is, some colours will clash. E.g. Warm red and cool blue will not give you a purple. You have to understand the characteristics of your colours before you can make best use of them. Like when you want an extremely bright clean colour, or you want a pastel neutralised colour.
@@teohyc yes or check your Paint grade and of if the paints are made with single of multiple pigments.
I just bought this set recently, and I just realized that mine are with black tubes. I saw yours are with white tubes. I just wonder why it's different, I'm afraid mine are fake or something?
They used to be black tubes.
Which paper are u using for?
If I remember correctly, Canson Mixed Media www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-canson-xl-mix-media-paper-300gsm
What’s gum arabic solution
It's a binder to bind pigments together. If not, the pigments will still be powder. Different medium use different binders, e.g. oil, colour pencils, pastels all use different binder. Watercolour uses gum arabic.
Do you like working wet on dry?
I mostly work that way. It's faster. Wet of wet takes time because I've to wait for it to dry before I can use other others.
I love your video! I just became a Patron, I was hoping to find the sketch in the video to download and print on watercolor paper. Is that possible? Can you point me in the right direction
Thanks! The sketch in this video? I don't think I've scanned this and I no longer have this sketch. A screenshot of it also won't work because the quality will not be good enough for print.
What is the name of your brush?
+hind hind Nevskaya Palitra
Copiers use cyan magenta and yellow to have all the colours you need. I have never achieved a black from red blue and yellow.
What is price
Depends on where you buy it. Check online
The word 'vibrant' had no meaning until these paints came along but I stick to a few basic colours
Buy first think later😂
B
I never trust the transparency rating anymore. Even though I'm new I swatch the colors over a waterproof black line and see for myself, then note it above the swatch for quick reference. I've been fooled to many times.😉
It also dependw on paper you use and hos much Paint water ratio you use...
Nice review teoh!! btw that sketch lmao!
btw can you recommend my channel? I actually may review more on the brushes since I've rarely seen reviews about them. 2 videos at the moment
I don't feature other channels unless the creators are consistent at putting up helpful content.
My advice is to create more useful content. Spend all the time you can to create useful content.
That's what I think of every day I wake up.
And you might want to read this articles on how to grow your art UA-cam channel
www.parkablogs.com/tags/internet-marketing-artists
Teoh Yi Chie Thanks! gonna read the article
Robin Grasby really bothers me personally
Hi next time you paint skip the guy that way the paint won't bleed into each other and by the time you come back you'll paint will be dry
Yeah, I'm quite impatient at times.
Jesus let the paint dry!!
I am being triggered by the signs they are holding 😡
Lol I've never seen a skin tone to be "too warm"? So everyone who is not light colored skin has a mistaken skin? How awful :c
