To be fair, he was only ever in the sequel live action movie. He wasn't an original Addams character and was never seen again, so I can see why he'd be left out. Every other adaptations has the ones mentioned (minus Hester and Ophelia Frump, but those might have been included just because they were direct relations rather than appearing in multiple adaptation).

    3 omissions from the Munsters...
1_) while Lily's hair was an homage to "Bride of Frankenstein", Lily herself harkens back to the film, "Dracula's Daughter"
2_) while "Spot" was always shown as a fire breathing dragon, in one episode he escapes the house, and the local news describes him as "the Loch Ness Monster".
3_) in a different episode, Victor Frankenstein IV revealed that his great grandfather had several "near misses" before 'perfecting' Herman, and one of the "rejects" was Herman's identical brother, Johan, whose childlike personality was like a 3-year-old.

Rofl please no. It's bizarre enough that Rob Zombie is remaking The Munsters. Munsters has quite a different comedic style compared to that of The Addams Family and better writing in general. I mean to each their own, but Addams Family is practically "normie" content at this point with how popular it is and the amount of merchandising.

You overlooked the musical "Adams family" with Nathan Lane. My favorite Munsters scene is where dad tells his son that it is ok that some people look different and all people should be treated with respect...referring of course to those who looked "normal" but the message to the audience was clearly a reference to the racial tension and issues of the day ..quite an amazing thing for a situational comedy to do at that time.

As a child, I loved to watch both, but quickly grew more invested in the Addams Family.
    Now I know why:
Unlike the Munsters, the Addamses lived within a very modern mindset, where both parents behaved in equal, respectful, and adoring manners, complementing each other in harmonious ways, as the rest of the members did too.
They never put anyone else down, preferring an open and sincere communication when possible, going many times over and beyond to help those they felt were in need.
Which doesn't mean that they didn't have their fair share of disagreements, even anger when confronted with unfairness.
Meanwhile, the Munsters followed a more traditional family dynamic (with a twist) as the rest of their TV contemporaries, reminding me sometimes of the early Simpsons.
The only character I always got excited about was Granpa Munster, In contrast to adoring every and each character of the Addams, including the cheeky house and fence.
They were allowed to shine as a unit.
    ...
(By the way, the Addams came first into television, but the Munsters were already deep in the making when they first aired. Having learned how Morticia would look like, the makers of the Munsters changed Lily's appearance to avoid getting both confused.)
    ...
Thanks for the beautiful chart work, and the quick overview.

@@fiatmortem5128 Actually, in the New Yorker, Wednesday was the younger sister & Pugsley was the older brother. This was changed following the early 90's movies, with most subsequent adaptations keeping Wednesday as the older sibling.

same. i was also surprised that while the actors for all the Other characters were listed of, the actors for Cousin It, whatever the boy from the Munsters' name and Thing were left unmentioned. nor was the fact that Morticia had more than one actress portraying her.
i mean sure, this is cool that they did the family trees but that seems kind of a sloppy oversight to leave those things out.

Heresy! Herman Munster is the reanimated corpse of Officer Muldoon of "Car 54, Where Are You?" Grandpa Munster got to know him shortly after coming to America, when he wasn't yet properly established so he had to masquerade as Officer Schnauser for the opportunistic kills it allowed him. During this period, Grandpa's daughter Lily became smitten with the handsome Officer Muldoon, and when he was killed in the line of duty, Grandpa couldn't resist Lily's pleas to reanimate him.

I loved both shows as a kid watching them on TV Land but it was rare to see because I was usually in school when they were on unless it was summer or I was sick. I think I used to like the Munsters better because they were actual monsters which made it more fun at the time, but the Addams Family Movies, and by this I only mean Addams Family and Addams Family Values as well as The New Addams Family show were what made me shift to prefer Addams Family over Munsters.
It’s actually a shame how little decent attention has been given to the Munsters since their original show. I know there were attempts to, but they never panned out.
By the way thank you for the family tree, I always wondered how a vampire and Frankenstein’s monster had a werewolf child, although I am also wondering how Marilyn is apparently human.

The strangest episode of the Adams family I think is when they had their mansion moved rather than let it get demolished by the town to build a highway.
The strangest episode of the Musters was when Herman got hit by lightening and turned human. As I recall there was an episode where he got hit on the head and it turned him into a super genius.

Sir, a very good video, just a couple of things to note. The Munsters was broadcast on CBS on Thursday nights, not NBC. NBC at the time was owned by RCA and had no relationship with Universal Corp. other then to purchase shows they produced. I watched both shows at the time, both only ran for two years, and were very funny. Keep up the great work.

I liked the Munsters the best because it was, well, the concept of the Addams turned upside down. Rather than have a bunch of normal(ish) people acting ghoulish and weird, we had a normal suburban family that happened to be composed of creatures from beyond: Herman was no rich (anti)socialite, but rather a down-to-earth 9-to-5 worker (9 being 9 PM, of course)... as a matter of fact, he was LITERALLY down to earth... he was an undertaker. Lily, despite being, well, a vampire, was a social butterfly (bat?), and Eddie was in the baseball team at his local school (seriously, can you imagine Wednesday OR Pugsley holding a bat and NOT going postal on their classmates?).
The only thing the two families had in common was an unusual pet: the Addams had Kitty, a lion, while the Munsters had Spot, the "thing under the stairs", which was suspected to be (and in the videogame, actually revealed as) a HUGE dragon.
