When I was in band, my band instructor had us play this song. He used to have it on recording and would listen to it in the car. He called it the bouncing song because, whenever he put it on while his daughters were in the car, they would start bouncing in the back seat to the rhythm.
My heart goes out to all members of the band for attempting to play this. After finished the concert with this piece, our Director banned us from ever playing it again because of the stress. Needless to say, we managed to convince him (after heavy bribery) to play it once last time before he burned the copies.
+DPCisAWESOME Ha ha, you sound like a friend of mine who got to play bass clarinet for this piece. I think he originally wanted to play the contra-alto, but he ended sticking with bass.
I played Tuba in this and it wasn’t that hard... personally I was happy that tubas finally got melody and even a solo! I just had a real fun time with this piece, it always put a smile on my face!
I just played this piece for an honor band at Troy University this weekend and I fell in love with it. The bass clarinet part was such a challenge to learn in three days but it was so much fun! This has definitely become one of my favorite pieces :^)
This is the first piece I have to get down for the concert band I'm in at my university... After not playing for a year, I almost cried. Nevertheless, much fun to play!
We played this when I was a junior in high school in 2013. First part and Second chair clarinet! Our band LOVED playing this. Still one of my favorites ten years later and still have it memorized. This song holds a big spot in my heart. Gives me so many goose bumps!
Playing percussion 2 with the xylophone is DEATH I play with flutes and clarinets and have the melody. It's sooo hard, but I love it. This song has helped me grow so much as a musician ❤
We played this at blue lake fine arts camp and our conductor threatened the base clarinets that she would throw tiny pickles at them. They slowed down and she actually threw one at them😂 it hit a kid in the stomach 😂
This is the best song I have played in all of my band experiences, so far, as a Baritone Saxophone. For once we weren't doubled with the tuba the entire song.
We are playing this in our lowest non freshman band at high school. I switched from Alto Sax to Bass Clarinet 3 months ago, and I do not regret it! Super hard at first but I’m getting the hang of it!
I play the flute, and I love this piece even though the really high section for us is difficult. It's a unique challenge that we don't get from our other pieces.
KittyCatPaw Same. We just got this today and I really like this piece. It's really fun to play even though the higher part towards the end is a bit of a challenge. (Also male flutes are master race)
It's nice to see that there are some male flutes out there. It seems like there's such a stereotype to the flute and it's really great to see someone break it. It's an instrument that can and should be played by whoever wants to.
This song was hard as anything back in highschool but it was fun when I finally figured it out. I played 1st clarinet at the time, but opted for second because I couldn't do it 😅
1st trumpet. The annoying thing is, my director doesn't want to play in 2/2, so it's ridiculously slow, and yet some people still can't play it in my band after 3 months. Plus the other trumpets refuse to buy cup mutes for the soli, and it's upsetting.
alexis dorthy Yeah it sucks. When I played this last year i was a middle schooler. so it makes some sense. Trying to convince my current teacher to bring this song out for us, so we can play it properly
We did too well at district festival so our band director handed us this song and Armenian Dances and said “Here’s your music for State Festival, get to practicing”
I played this song at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (I play flute there) and this song was a big oof, but so fun Also playing it on x2 speed is death for all instruments
ShadowCaptain85 I just found this song again and I'm genuinely sad that camp didn't happen this year. I think I have one eligible year left to be a camper. I still laugh when I remember we first got this and the two bassoons were like "excuse me what the fu-" I recently tried this on my bassoon and holy shit 😂
It sounds awesome, but playing it on French horn was a BITCH. Mr. Randazzo, wherever you are, know that you practically made my lips burst into flames with this. Lol.
I read comments about the difficulty of this work. Yes, it is challenging but I would offer you listen to Jug Blues and Fat Pickin' by Don Freund or J'ai ete au bal by Don Grantham to hear truly difficult 'bayou' music.
it didn't sound hard until I got the music and I was like "OMG this thing makes your fingers twist" I know all my notes and stuff even the 3 and fourth octave but damn that's ending part with all the high notes is hell I mean it's hard for me because I only been playing for a year and the worst part is that I have to do the first flute part
I'm in seventh grade for crying out loud! And if that's not enough, I'm first clarinet. No this is not some private music school that I go to. In fact, the school is in the hood.
Currently playing this in my band. We have nicknamed it “Bayou Mental Breakdown” lmao
Just started playing it in the band, and our conductor said we’re more breakdown than bayou
Nobody cares
@@chrisg0001 bruh

That’s how our instructor felt, she literally said that we were a huge disappointment and to have our performance motivate us to do better
Clarinet 1. Probably the most fun song I played during my entire high school experience
WE OVER HERE PLAYING IT IN MIDDLE SCHOOL BOIIII
YESSS ABSOLUTELY THIS
Couldn’t agree more! Go clarinets!
Everyone has this sick melody to play, but the best me and other trombones get is a counter melody and a bass part. Btw, rip clarinets.
Reebz the eight note part is kinda cool but it’s killing my lips
I mean it's a hard song, I'm the baritone soloist and it's hella fast and if I was on trombone I'd die from the main melody
Molly on the shore is worse man... makes me want to rip my lips off
At Least I got to play Lassus Trombone in 8th grade. My brother was so jealous.
Hardcore rip clarinets
I didn't actually get this piece figured out UNTIL THE CONCERT. (back in 2011)
My heart goes out to all members of the band for attempting to play this. After finished the concert with this piece, our Director banned us from ever playing it again because of the stress. Needless to say, we managed to convince him (after heavy bribery) to play it once last time before he burned the copies.
Bayou Breakdown is one of the hardest songs not to play, but to get right as a band
The bass clarinet part on this song is MURDER. I love it though, I actually get the melody for once :P
+DPCisAWESOME Ha ha, you sound like a friend of mine who got to play bass clarinet for this piece. I think he originally wanted to play the contra-alto, but he ended sticking with bass.
Try the oboe part smh
omg i play bass!!!! :D
i played this in 7th grade lol
@@tylertrudo2841 yo you should check out Vesuvius the oboe solo is awesome
God i love playing this piece as a clarinet
I've never played this piece but I was given the music for it and it's hARD LIKE EVEN THE LOW WOODWINDS
matt yeah kinda for bass clairinet
Bassoon as well
LOW REEDZZZZ
I played this in 9th grade with my favorite band director. I'm in my senior year, and we're playing it again
I played it my freshman year too, but my band director banned it from ever being played again
As a euphonium player, this song is genuinely the most fun I’ve ever had in band
True, but the first time sight reading this song was probably one of the most miserable experiences I’ve ever had
I'm playing the tuba for this song in my ensemble... ALL of the parts are just as hard. They ALL play that really fast stuff EVEN THE TUBA!!! like
I'm three years late, but I also play the tuba. Jesus this song has got to be going at least 250bpm!
I played Tuba in this and it wasn’t that hard... personally I was happy that tubas finally got melody and even a solo! I just had a real fun time with this piece, it always put a smile on my face!
My pity goes to all clarinets in this song.
Thank you!!
Jonathan Fan best five minutes of my life!
Thank you😂its not too bad tho
why? have the fun part.
Thanks mate

Cardinal band?
Grayson Major I'm super late to reply to this lmao but yeah!
@@joyspivey1002 Small world! You might know me actually. I was the first chair trumpet player in Cardinal band. I played the trumpet solos.
Lucky you. I just got this song and I'm in the 8th grade..... plz help me....
@@fourphases5972 You think your unlucky? I'm playing this in SEVENTH GRADE.

The French Horn part is lit but not too difficult. We played this last year and listening to it is hitting me right in the feels.
Sorry Color panda I had to share this
Bro now it feels like you're stalking me. Sheesh. +Personthegreat
We're playing this right now and I'm first Horn and I transposed alto part on mine it's fun and fast

playing bells on percussion 1 for my high school band. My friend is playing the xylo part so ill have to with him luck😭

I remember that...
KINDA LATE BUT I WAS IN THAT BAND, first flute, I miss blue lake I’m a sophomore in college now so I’m way too old

This song is so much fun to play on piccolo :P

Just got this piece today. Ugh...The clarinet part......lol
+Eisenhower Pon Yeah, it really is a pain. Still fun though (with some practice).
Yeah... It was extremely fun though
I just got the music too. I am on 1st Clarinet.
Have fun with that xD #BassIsBetter
+DPCisAWESOME #WeaklingKeyboardBass :D
This is a wonderfully challenging piece. And the bass clarinet part was a blast to play haha
This is the best song I have played in all of my band experiences, so far, as a Baritone Saxophone. For once we weren't doubled with the tuba the entire song.
Finally, a song we play that I‘d rather listen to than try and perform
One of the most fun pieces to play on baritone, both a solo and a soli, and the melody in most parts :)
The sheet music is deceptively simple. If y'all are playing this, PRACTICE
I don't know about everyone else but this is super groovy
We are playing this in our lowest non freshman band at high school. I switched from Alto Sax to Bass Clarinet 3 months ago, and I do not regret it! Super hard at first but I’m getting the hang of it!

I want to play this one day oh my god. 1st clarinet part for this here i come
death to low reeds 😂😂 especially bass clarinets and bari saxes since its pretty difficult to tongue that short and fast :')
Playing this with 3 valves (Euphonium) is difficult enough. I can't imagine what the woodwinds are going through when they play this song.
+Kevin Hale The low woodwinds in my class basically died when they saw this song though. Just so you know.
+Kevin Hale as long as your fingers and tongue are fast, it's very fun!
+Shannon N. Yeah, this piece is cancer when it comes to difficulty. It's a beautiful piece though.
ay, fellow euph
played this on a 4 valve compensating last fall
Here’s a hint. *BINGING THE ONLY BASSON IN THE BAND AND BEING THE SOUL OF THE SONG. IM IN 7 TH GRADE SO THIS IS MEH 2ND YEAR!!!!*
playing this for honor band right now, really fun.

We did too well at district festival so our band director handed us this song and Armenian Dances and said “Here’s your music for State Festival, get to practicing”
Hey I know that you guys have played this years ago. I am now playing it in 2023 for the lynden highschool band!!!!
Playing the solo trumpet on this part was one of my favorite times in my sophomore band!
this song is the death of all clarinet players. aka me. this is harddd but so fun tho!!
My band will be playing this soon, itt'l be fun to do the starting bassoon&bass clarinet part
I'm playing the low part in the beginning and it is death to low woodwinds
By far, the only actual band able to nail the ending
I played this song at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (I play flute there) and this song was a big oof, but so fun
Also playing it on x2 speed is death for all instruments
RandomFandoms Dude I also played it this past summer! Trombone. Session one, symphony band
ShadowCaptain85 Ayeee Session 1 gang!!

I was a first flute that year at blue lake:))
The last song I played in concert as a senior in 2012

This was actually pretty fun in the bone boys section
The trombone part too this is just quiet, quiet, quiet, DU DU DU DAAAAA
when my band teacher was in high school his clarinets had a hard time playing this and he was that kinda kid so he called it “clarinet breakdown” oof
currently playing this with the trombone 2 part. the part isn’t even that bad but i still suck ass at it lmao

Ahh, Blue Lake. 1st trombone, 2nd chair symphony band Session 1 2019.
the contra alto clarinet part is hard in the begining
+Donnie Gingry Despite that, my friend still wanted to play the conta-alto clarinet part, and would have, had the director allowed it.
the contra alto has melody at some points is pretty hard too
this is a fun song to play. i play the baritone in a civic band.
Man tuba was so fun on this song holy fuck
Like this song alot
this is the bane of tuba players..
Agreed
But it's so fun
But it’s not that bad at all. In fact Ithink it’s really fun
No matter how many times I practice 2:51 on my clarinet, I can never play it right….
Just got a couple of percussion parts today

Bari part is so fuN :D
The dislikes are third clarinets who suck and can’t play melody
Everything except the horn part is hard :( we don’t ever get the cool fast parts
this is so hard to play on the trumpet let me tell you
No, its very simple. Just bouncing eight notes.
What bpm is this
Yes
Half note = 100
This song was amazing, but the trombones never got the melody.
Grant Lucke welcome to a bass clarinet's life
I actually like playing this song on the bass clarinet, because compared to other pieces i have a lot more melodic lines than normal.
Classic Grant ;-)
Grant Lucke I feel like low brass never does (baritone player)
Anybody else hear “chicken run”?
:v this piece...
yay trumbone
I'm god
1st alto....
As a clarinet player, this sucks to play in cut time 😂
